Technical glitches with email verification codes—often caused by spam filter delays that cause short-lived codes to expire—and phone line connectivity issues are completely unacceptable, and we are actively investigating these system errors. You can bypass verification prompts to cancel an active plan by navigating directly to Account Settings > Subscription Services > Cancel Subscription in a private/incognito browser window.

To get your account canceled or fully deleted without further hassle, please send a direct message with your account email to our official social media support channels (such as Facebook or X/Twitter), where an agent can securely verify your identity and process your request immediately.

Il faut garder à l’esprit que les résultats sont mis à jour au fil du temps. Pour calculer les résultats, nous analysons l’ADN de nos utilisateurs puis le comparons à notre panel de référence – qui comprend des dizaines de milliers de tests ADN provenant de personnes ayant une longue et solide histoire dans chacune des régions que nous testons, dont l’ADN sert à établir des régions de référence. Au fur et à mesure que de plus en plus de personnes effectuent un test chez nous, cela nous permet de mieux distinguer les régions voisines les unes des autres, ou de subdiviser des régions plus vastes en zones plus petites et plus spécifiques, pour ne citer que quelques exemples. Hi there and thank you for reaching out to us with this review. We are sorry for any disappointed or frustration you've experienced since taking the AncestryDNA test and are eager to address this with you.

We want to clarify that we offer the 3-month subscription add-on for a $1 to give members the opportunity to get a head start on their research while they are waiting for their results. Members do not need to have DNA results before they can make use of a subscription, which is why it begins immediately upon purchase and not once results are published. You can search for ancestors and start building your tree with the information you already have.

We're sorry to hear that you've had to submit more than one sample to us. As a company, we want to provide results that are accurate and thus while we understand it can be disheartening when a sample fails to return results, providing a product that is up to standard is essential. We would not be fulfilling our promise to provide quality results if we allowed a test that did not pass our quality assurance measures to be posted online as we would risk providing inaccurate results.

The most common causes of sample failure are food contamination, insufficient amount of saliva or insufficient cells in the sample provided. Based on the rest of your review, it sounds like you are still awaiting results. We hope the latest one you submitted it successful but if another sample fails, we'd recommend checking out the guide we've linked below which contains some additional tips for providing a viable sample.

You mentioned receiving information about people who aren't related to you and we're not sure what you're referring to here. If you're talking about inaccurate Hints, please be advised that they are generated by an algorithm which reviews information from your trees, such as names, birth or death dates, and locations, and compares them with records and other member trees on our database. We host upwards of 65 billion records and more than 130 million family trees, which is a lot of information to search through, so Hints are designed to do some of that searching for you, though the feature won't be a replacement for searching for records. When they are accurate, they can be a great help but they will not always be applicable to your research for a particular ancestor, so it's important to carefully verify individual hints and search for specific collections in our catalog too.

Once your DNA results are ready, you will receive an estimate of your ancestral regions and a list of your DNA matches. This is where you'll be able to connect with people you're related to as you'll be able to message these matches for free. Check out the guide we've linked below for more information.

It's important to bear in mind that even with a perfect knowledge of the history of your ancestors, DNA can still show some unexpected results. We each inherit 50% of our DNA from both our mother and father but exactly what 50% we inherit is random. We do not get an equal 50/50 split of all of our parents’ DNA. This is known as genetic recombination. Bear in mind that the more DNA is passed down from generation to generation to greater chance it has of not being inherited by the next. We'd like to assure you that given the random nature of DNA inheritance, not showing a region you know your ancestors came from in your estimate does not discount your heritage or your documentation, it just means you happened not to inherit it from your parents.

It's important to understand that AncestryDNA ethnicity estimates are based on available data and so we are constantly updating results as DNA science improves and more people take the test. When AncestryDNA launched in 2012, we compared DNA against 22 possible regions. Today we have a reference panel made up of more than 185,000 people, representing 146 different global regions. In order to discover where in the world your DNA comes from, we survey your entire genome at over 700,000 locations and compare your DNA to the DNA of people with deep family histories from specific parts of the world. This group of individuals is called our reference panel. Ancestry’s unique reference panel is a collection of thousands of DNA samples from around the globe.

The AncestryDNA test is in many ways a long term investment as we are constantly updating our members results, creating new regions and identifying new genetic communities. It's important to be bear in mind that estimating a persons ethnicity based on their DNA is still a relatively new science but we are the market leader in the field of consumer genomics and we are committed to continuously improving our members results to give them as detailed an understanding of their origins as we can.

We hear your frustration. To clarify, the DNA kit covers the lab work and science needed to provide your ethnicity and matches. The 'familial details' (like birth records or census images) are part of our massive historical database, which requires a separate subscription to maintain and digitize. We want to make sure you have the best tools, so we recommend checking out our free indexes—you can often see names and dates without an extra charge!
