Mostly a hit, sometimes a miss

It can always be better but when things go as planned, it's usually good enough. Just one time power sockets didn't work but otherwise, the food always compensates for everything. Mostly reliable.

Worst airline experience ever – Air India

I was supposed to fly on the 19th at 09:10, but Air India somehow thought it was acceptable to delay the flight until 18:00. That’s almost 9 hours of delay, with no proper explanation and zero consideration for passengers.

As if that wasn’t bad enough, our connection in New Delhi turned into a 9-hour layover, while it was originally supposed to be just 1 hour. They clearly take no responsibility at all for people’s time, plans, or exhaustion.

The worst part?
👉 We were informed only 1 hour in advance that the flight was cancelled. That is unbelievably unprofessional and completely unacceptable.

And being stuck in Delhi is awful — the air is dirty and unbearable. No one wants to be forced to spend hours there.

Terrible planning, terrible communication, terrible service.
I will never fly with Air India again and would strongly advise everyone to avoid this airline.

Never fly this airline AIR INDIA …

Never fly this cheap shabby airline AIR INDIA pretending to be an international Airline. I had stopped flying Air India about 50 yrs ago due to their extremely poor service and unreliability in every sense delays and cancellations was a regular occurrence.
After 50 yrs I was forced to to give them another chance on a flight from Amritsar ti Delhi and then to Male as no other airline was available …,and guess what nothing has changed …Flight was delayed by 5 hrs which meant we couldn’t make the connection to Male , a day gone out of our holiday in expensive Maldives .We were put up in disgusting 2 star hotel and we even had to make our own way as after 1.5 hrs the arranged cab hadn’t arrived. Filling a claim form is the next nightmare … at it for 2 hrs still not there 😡😡😡😡😡

Very disappointing experience with Air India

On my recent trip, I flew with Air India, and unfortunately, it was a truly disappointing experience.

First of all, almost none of the on-flight screens worked - I would estimate that only about 10% were functional across the four flights I took. Even among the working ones, many had faulty remotes or unresponsive touchscreens.
There’s simply no way the airline isn’t aware of this issue, as every single flight had the same problem - it really shouldn’t be that difficult to fix the screens.

Additionally, every single flight was delayed. Not even one of them departed at the time stated on the boarding pass.

The in-flight food was also below expectations. Every meal contained curry and was spicy.

The only positive aspect was the cabin crew. They didn’t do anything particularly remarkable, but they were polite and did their jobs reasonably well.

I’m usually not the type of person to leave one-star reviews, but this experience was genuinely disappointing from start to finish.

Excellent service from beginning to end

I have flown with Air India twice this year, from London to Bangkok via New Delhi (March/April 2025) and London to Bali via New Delhi ( October 2025)

I cannot fault the flights or the service they offer. On-line booking was easy, on-line check-in was easy but had to check-in again at departure airport to collect Boarding passes.
Ground staff were always helpful.
Planes were good….comparatively “new” and everything worked as it should.
Cabin crew extremely polite and very service oriented. Food and refreshments were also of a good standard.
Having read some of the scathing reviews of Air India, I was a little apprehensive, but I can honestly say that they provided some of the best flight experiences I have had.

Cancelled flights and dowgraded

I supplied all sorts of information to Air India regarding a refund.

You can not get any more conclusive that we ended up on a cancelled flight and flew economy than:

I am sure that you as well as I know that we would not be allowed to fly if we were sat in Premium Economy with boarding passes based in economy. We would also not be allowed to sit in the seats in economy on a full flight.

Unless I am missing something here, somebody, be that Carlton Travel or Air India is clearly not checking this thoroughly.

Carlton Leisure passed us onto Air India and surprise surprise - they have not responded as well.

Overall, very poor service when needed from Air India and I would not use them again in the future. If all goes well then I am sure they are good but when it goes wrong, you need their support to fight for your rights and all I got was - we can not help any further.

Denied boarding despite valid documents – worst experience with Air India from copenhagen to New Delhi

We were traveling from Copenhagen to Bagdogra via New Delhi (AI 158 on 28/09/2025).
Three of us (with valid passports and boarding passes) were ready to travel. My 11-year-old son had an expired Nepali passport but a valid Travel Document for Nepal, which allows entry into Nepal. Despite clearing Danish immigration and receiving boarding passes, Air India staff at the gate denied us boarding at the last minute.

I requested solutions (splitting tickets, rebooking my son Delhi–Kathmandu, even buying a new ticket), but the Duty Manager rudely refused and closed the gate at 22:30. We had some friends to go kathmandu. They want to assist my son to kathmandu. Three other staff members agreed to help, but the Duty Manager did not allow it.

We missed our trip, lost money, and missed celebrating Dashain and Diwali festival with family in Nepal. My son cried and we all returned home at midnight heartbroken.

Air India failed to provide any support or alternative, violating EU passenger rights. We are now seeking full refund and compensation. I strongly suggest never travel with airindia. It is worst airlines and very bad service.

Rückflug storniert

Rückflug storniert - keine Erstattung!
Ich fliege öfters von Frankfurt nach Mumbai.
Der Hinflug Ende Oktober 2024 verlief einwandfrei.
In Indien erhielt ich die Nachricht, dass der Rückflug am 4. Februar 2025 storniert wurde. Notgedrungen habe ich den angebotenen Ersatzflug am 5. Februar genutzt.
Auf den Mehrkosten durch den verlängerten Aufenthalt bin ich sitzen geblieben.
Das Serviceportal der Airline sieht diesen Fall nicht vor und höhnt auch noch, dass der Flug am 5.02. regulär vonstatten ging.
Ich habe die Beschwerde schriftlich bei der deutschen Air India-Vertretung in Frankfurt eingereicht - diese antwortet erst gar nicht.

Absolutely hopeless i live in Newcastle…

Absolutely hopeless i live in Newcastle so booked my flight from London gatwick to goa on 30/12/2925 they changed it to 31/12/2025 without even speaking to me now theyve changed it again to Heathrow and it is no longer a direct flight,bare in mind me having to cancel hotels….trying to speak or get in touch with someone is impossible i would rather walk than ever use this airline again

A lot of patience is needed to get a refund and/or compensation

Besides British Airways and Virgin Atlantic I have used Air India, frequently for flights from London to India and back.
In late April, I had to spend more than 12 hours at London Heathrow Airport as my flight to Delhi was initially delayed and then cancelled. A compensation of 520 GPB was promised soon after the claim was processed in early May and I am still waiting for the compensation payment.
The return flight was also delayed and I requested a refund. The refund was promised to be credited to my credit card within 7-10 working days. The promise was made on the 20th of May 2025 and I'm still waiting for the refund. I'm still hopeful that they will eventually pay, but the delay in payment falls short of my expectations for acceptable customer service.

Where is “Air India” going

I traveled from Birmingham to Delhi on 17.3.25.Food served was cold and there were no arrangements to reheat. Food packets were poorly presentable. No tv screens were working inside the plain and me along with all other travellers had to spend time without any source of entertainment. I am feeling ashamed to write that after shutting the toilet door, inside lights should have come on but they never. Is this the air line trying to compete with other international airlines? Would never travel in air India again.

I had the worst experience flying with Air India and strongly advise against using this airline.

My return flight from Colombo to Paris (via Delhi) was cancelled last minute, and I was left completely stranded without any help. No staff to assist, no emergency hotline that worked, no rebooking – nothing. I had to pay for a last-minute flight with another airline, plus hotel and transport, all out of pocket. To this day, Air India has refused to compensate or take responsibility.

Not to mention, my outbound flight was also a nightmare: both legs were delayed, the cabin was smelly and unbearably hot, food was inedible, and the hostesses were cold and indifferent. The aircraft felt like a time machine to the 90s – worn-out seats, screens, and a general sense of neglect.

Save yourself the trouble. Avoid Air India at all costs. Reliability, service, and safety are clearly not a priority for them.

Never never fly with Air India

I was refused to check in on my flight from Melbourne to the UK. They said I needed an EVisa. I showed them my stamp visa saying I have unlimited stay in the UK. Still refused to be able to check in. Missed my flight. The staff very unhelpful. Then rebooked flight( with Etihad) for the next day. Started the process to claim back expenses. They are still refusing any blame even when I have sent copy from UK Govt website where it clearly says my visa is still acceptable. Their service is terrible. Don’t get me started about the inflight entertainment that wasn’t working on my flight from UK to Australia! Never will I fly with them again. The experience was just so traumatic.

Cancelled flight not refunded

I paid for business class, the plane was filthy and parts of the seats were broken, it felt like an unsafe plane. I also got food poisoning from the food on the plane and spent the first night on holiday in the emergency department. When I told the airline the ignored my email.
On my return they cancelled my flight the day without a suitable alternative, before I was due out and only gave me a partial refund. I was stranded in a foreign country and had to purchase an expensive last minute ticket home. They were not willing to compensate for any of this.

Totalt kaos, manglende kommunikation og nul ansvar – vores første og sidste rejse med Air India

Vi havde set frem til vores første rejse med Air India, men det blev en kæmpe skuffelse på stort set alle fronter.

Først blev vores fly fra København til New Delhi den 5. juli rykket, så vi mistede forbindelsen videre til Bangkok. Vi blev automatisk flyttet til et senere fly og ankom 3,5 timer senere – uden at vi fik valgmuligheder, information eller kompensation. Da vi kontaktede kundeservice for at høre om opgradering eller loungeadgang som kompensation, fik vi et automatisk nej og besked om at “spørge i lufthavnen” – hvor alle ved, man altid får afslag.

Sidenhen blev hele første flystrækning helt aflyst, og vi fik aldrig nogen konkret besked om det – kun en vag besked om “ændringer”. Vi opdagede selv, at flyet var fjernet fra vores rejseoversigt og måtte selv kontakte rejsebureauet for at få bekræftet, at det var aflyst. Det er ikke bare dårlig service – det er utrygt.

Da vi udtrykte bekymring over både service og sikkerhed (bl.a. efter et alvorligt uheld i juni), fik vi et standardsvar om, at “sikkerheden er højeste prioritet”. På intet tidspunkt har Air India taget ansvar eller udvist imødekommenhed.

Vi måtte købe nye billetter til en højere pris, står uden konkret kompensation, og sidder tilbage med indtrykket af et selskab, der ikke respekterer sine kunder – hverken deres tid, penge eller rejseplaner.

Air India har været utilgængelige, uinteresserede og uprofessionelle.
Dette var vores første – og absolut sidste – rejse med dem.

Bad experiences me and family suffered in Air India flight from London Cochin Via Mumbai on 12 June. - which diverted mid air @Turkey(due to political issues) to Vienna. Stranded in Vienna Airport without accommodation(we didn't had Schengen visa - we are UK visa holders - the authorities didnt allowed us to go out. We were provided food voucher in a very distant outlet Henry's at Vienna from where we were allowed to occupy) for almost 30 hours with family. Specifically from 8 am on 13th June to 2 Pm @14 June. Though the flight was scheduled to depart on 2 pm as per boarding pass and all passenger inflight, the flight took off at half past 5 pm due to luggage issues as advised by Air India. Air India staff provided water, ground floor gate space, temporary beds, blankets, pillows and food vouchers. Rest of the management was disaster.

Please note other AI flight pilots made smart decisions.  AI flight departed few minutes before to Delhi landed in Mumbai(and not in Vienna). Other AI flight landed in Sharjah.

The transfer flight was scheduled to leave at 7.25am on 15th June. The stranded Vienna flight arrived late in Mumbai by 4 hours at 6am. We have to rush through belt to get the baggage, clear customs, security check and run to gate. Some of the other passengers missed to reach.My main aim I had come to perform the post cremation rituals of my father scheduled on 14th and 15th June got cancelled.

I have got message reschedule of return flight from mumbai from 14.20 to 14.05 on 23 June

Hence to complete the cancelled rituals of my father I requested to change my return flight to 28 June Flight from cok(AI2744) 07:50 to mumbai+ mumbai to Lhr(AI131) 14:05. Then myself and family have enough transfer time.

But air India again is not ready to compensate for the lost time for me and family due to the error made by pilot. Traveller have to suffer eventually in Air India.  On 17 and 18th I made 3 domestic travels in Indigo - Cochin to Pune, Shirdi to Bangalore, Bangalore to Mangalore. All Flights departed 30 min before departure time. and landed 30 minutes before Very promtly. Mr Campbell Wilson / CEO & MD

We have bit mixed experience with Air…

We have bit mixed experience with Air India. the baggage system and ticketing system was good..

The real trouble start here once we boarded the Air conidition doesn't work. The pilot informed the Air condition will pick up once its get take off with engine power or some thing like such. I got Bomabed with and we are in suffcation for 1 hr... Finally as pilot said the AC pick up in the Air.

Pathetic customer support!!!

I booked an Air India flight ticket for my mum via booking.com, but had to cancel it 48hrs before the flight, due to the sudden untimely demise of my uncle.
As per the special circumstances provisions, I requested a refund for the cancelled flight, for which I was advised to contact Air India (AI) directly to get an approval. I booked another Air India ticket for a few weeks later and contacted the airlines as per booking.com advise.

AI asked us to complete an online refund request form and submit the documents as per protocol... which we did very promptly.
But despite providing all of the requested documents, we had to go through 2 weeks of painful, insensitive emails with different customer service representatives, explaining our relationship with the demised person and how did our case qualify under the airline's written rules. Air India finally said: "that your medical documentation has been verified. We have submitted the necessary remarks to your travel agency for a full refund. As your booking was processed by the travel agency, we request that you contact them directly regarding your refund."

I contacted booking.com, who initially said that they had no communication from AI and could not help us till they heard any further. On contacting them again after a few weeks and multiple times since (every few weeks), each time we got a new excuse and were told that the matter had been escalated with urgency (shamelessly requesting support feedback).

Then, they mentioned that the airlines had asked for all the documents to be sent all over again via booking.com for approval. But even after providing the entire communication thread and documentation proof to booking.com, they have not given a definitive answer and instead only tried to misguide us when we insisted on talking to the customer support managers.

I contacted Air India again about the matter and they reassured me that the issue was only caused because AirIndia did not mention the PNR and ticket number in their communication with Booking.com. They asked me to generate another refund request while mentioning the error, and promised that the matter will be resolved without any further issues and need or chasing either companies. Two days later I get an email that the booking is done through a third party so please contact them and we can't help you.

There has been no action and refund still, after nearly 3 months of my uncle's demise. Booking.com or AI couldn't seem to care less or follow through their commitments with any dignity.
