Unfair Billing & Poor Communication
Unfair Billing & Poor Communication – A Heads-Up for Consumers
Watch out: WOW includes an auto-renewal clause in its contracts that can lock you into another year without clear or timely notice. After waiting a full year to cancel, I was surprised with a $168 early termination fee, even though I cancelled just a few days before the renewal date.
When I contacted WOW to cancel, I was told everything was good to go. I returned all the equipment, submitted a signed cancellation request, and confirmed over the phone that my account was officially closed. Not once was an early termination fee mentioned.
The bill I received afterward felt like a trap. There was no prior warning about the charges, and customer service offered no real explanation—just the fee, take it or leave it.
I won’t be returning to WOW, and I strongly encourage others to read every word of the contract before signing. Don’t expect them to point out the parts that could cost you—it’s up to you to protect yourself.

Misleading Billing Practices & Poor Communication – A Warning to Consumers
Be cautious: WOW includes an auto-renewal clause in its contracts that quietly locks you into another year without any clear notification. After patiently waiting a full year to cancel, I was hit with a $168 early termination fee—despite cancelling just days before the renewal date.
When I reached out to cancel, I was told everything was set. I returned all the equipment, submitted a signed cancellation form, and confirmed over the phone that my account was officially closed. At no point did anyone mention an early termination fee.
The bill that followed felt like a gotcha moment. There was zero prior communication about this charge, and customer support had nothing to offer but the fee itself—no explanation, no accountability.
I won’t be using WOW again, and I strongly urge others to read the fine print carefully before signing. WOW certainly won’t highlight the clauses that could end up costing you.

WOW! What HORRIBLE Customer Service!
WOW! customer service (if you can call it that) has been HORRIBLE since day one. To begin with, they sold us our VoIP phones based on the promise we could use them anywhere. But when it came time for service, they would only service them at our office location and refused to send us a new $50 phone.
Most recently, my phone stopped working and I spent 2 hours on the phone with WOW! technicians only to be told I would have to bring the phone into my office to have them fix it. When they did, they found out it was not the phone at all but a "backend problem" with their system. So I have not had a phone for 6 DAYS because of their own problem after they wasted TWO HOURS of my time.
I am DONE with WOW! and will be terminating our contract as soon as it is possible to do so. I would NEVER do business with these people again.
They put you on autopay then up the bill
ONLY USE IF DESPERATE!!
Internet has been good. Wow way customer service is the worst imaginable!
If you can go with literally anyone else do it solely because of how bad their customer service is.
I have no problems at all
I have no problems at all.
They are very helpful on the phone
They are open late if you need to call them.
Down load the app. You can do everything on there.
Horrible internet service
They renew your services for another year and you're stuck. You cant cancel them and the internet is horrible!
They are incompetent and fraudulent
On my last phone call with customer service May 30, 2025, I told the rep that WOW's constant rigamarole causes me undue stress. I said I do not have trouble from ANY other company I deal with except WOW.
WOW will send new equipment, want old returned and then claim their equipment wasn't returned and try to charge you for it. This happened to my brother. He had the FedEx tracking receipt yet they harassed him for one year. They sent me new equipment, wanted the old back. Because of my brother's nightmare, I took pictures of everything including being inside the FedEx building. Four days later. I received notice the equipment wasn't returned and I owed something like $500.00. I went to the local building, waiting outside because it's been closed since covid to the public. Manager drove up, he said send me the pictures and it was resolved within hours.
It's always some rigamarole with them.
May 2025, they had some "price lock" offer, HA, sure. I called in, was told some lines about this and that. I chose the new plan.
The next day, I received an email that I needed to return my equipment and would receive a box. I called them. They claimed I had 2 modems. I don't, yes you do. They said I should have returned it in February 2024!! I said that's 15 months ago and I'm being told now yet I don't have it?! I looked through my WOW file. In Feb 2024, a post card was sent that I was getting an upgraded modem and to recycle the old one. Now they want $150.
They swindle customers by claiming they didn't return equipment and want money for it.
I KNOW if I change providers, they'll claim I didn't return the equipment and want money that I truly won't owe.
They're publicly traded. We all need to contact the SEC and CNBC about their nefarious business tactics.
We cancelled in September when we moved…
We cancelled in September when we moved yet they continued to charge us. So I filed chargebacks. They charged us for every single chargeback plus a fee and sent it to collections. When my husband tried to talk to them and explain that we had cancelled, they basically told him, "Well, it wasn't recorded in our system, so prove it." Yeah, OF COURSE it wasn't recorded in your system - that's why we kept getting charged!!
The internet would also go out randomly for literally no reason pretty regularly. Overall pretty poor experience and inconsistent, rude support sometimes. Sometimes support was lovely.
Horrific customer service
Horrific customer service. I have not had service for two months and they are still billing me. Switching to xfinity next week.
Avoid WOW Internet
Avoid WOW Internet – Deceptive Auto-Renewal Scam!
I would strongly advise everyone to stay away from WOW Internet due to their misleading and unethical contract practices.
I originally signed up for a 2-year contract. After the first year, I tried to cancel, only to be told I’d have to pay early termination fees—so I patiently waited until the 2-year contract ended. But when I asked to disconnect after fulfilling the full term, WOW suddenly claimed my contract had auto-renewed without my consent, and now they were charging me another outrageous early termination fee of $346.
At no point did they notify me before the renewal date or give me a reminder. Only after I asked to cancel did they point out some tiny fine print buried deep in the contract about auto-renewal. This is a predatory practice, designed to trap customers and squeeze more money out of them.
They rely on the fact that most people won’t notice hidden clauses and don’t proactively remind customers when the initial contract is about to end—because it benefits them to lock you in without you even knowing. This is not just bad business—it’s borderline fraud.
WOW Internet, your practices are disgraceful, and I’ll be making sure everyone I know is aware. Shame on you.
billing department is very unprofessional
Internet service is great but their billing department over talks people, refused to let you speak with a manager, refuses to assist you with billing problems or provide other phone numbers where you can reach higher management. Should have stayed with Xfinity.
Been with wow for 8 years
Been with wow for 8 years. Services adequate when there is no problems. If there's a wow system problem they charge the customer every time and you have complain to get it refunded and then it takes forever to get handled. They are SO Petty and find every way to charge extra if your billing is not perfect. I'm over it.
In my opinion, the worst customer service! SC is better off without WOW.
WOW is new in the Mauldin, SC area (2025) and so far the customer service is beyond terrible. Second day after installation I was having problem port forwarding for cameras and media server and after doing some internet investigation I determine they must be using CGNAT which makes it impossible (without a VPN) to access stuff inside my house remotely. I decided to give support a call and after speaking with 4 people they didn't have a clue what I was talking about nor did they have any idea who to send me to for an answer. I was just about ready to cancel my new WOW 3Gbps service when I decided to try the support chat and I was lucky enough to get someone that not only new what I was talking about, but was able to resolve my problem by giving me a public IP.
Now I will fast forward to March 20th 2025. I return from vacation in the Dominican Republic and I need to configure a router so I decided to use my Spectrum 1Gbps Cable Internet and that's when I found out that WOW's contractor decided to bury the fiber line and cut my cable line. I went outside and took pictures because I didn't see location paint or flags. The fiber line was buried directly over my natural gas line and the cable line. Luckily the contractor didn't hit the gas line while we were on vacation, but he did manage to cut the cable line. I called WOW, but the over seas mess they call customer service was useless in helping get in touch with a local WOW manager. I then went online for a corporate contact number but everything I could find was the overseas support number. I managed to find a contact form on their website and filled it out.
And make this much shorter that it actually was. Daryll a executive response person contacted me, I explained my problem and that I had to spend two hours waiting on Spectrum to repair my cable line and I felt I should be compensated for my time. I also requested the contractors name for my complaint to the SC811 (Attorney Generals Office). See in SC its against the law for a company to did without locating other underground utilities. This from what I have read is up to $1000.00 fine.
Well after speaking with Daryll (who refused to give me his last name nor did he give me anyway to get in touch with him, besides filling out the contact page again and wait) told me he would have to get back to me after he investigated this. Well it appears Daryll has called twice while I was on the phone and didn't leave a voicemail so I have to assume that it was him. Today (04.02.2025) Daryll called and said that he still doesn't have the contractors name and said that a location was preformed on 03.11.2025 or 03.12.2025 and that permits were recorded prior to the fiber burial. I told him that's impossible. The fiber line crosses right over my natural gas line and I do not see any paint nor flags anywhere on my property and I have taken photographs within two days or the burial. I then requested proof from the locating company. I will try and contact someone at the city hall and see if I can get a copy of the permits.
So, the moral to this story is WOW is a very evasive company who doesn't hire US workers to answer support problems and when you do manage to figure out how to contact someone they avoid giving out any contact information. I expected so much more and I am very disappointed with the level of service I have received. AT&T has finished installing their fiber conduit in my neighborhood and as soon as I can; I will be leaving WOW and advocating for other providers based on my personal experience with them. If they are a new company in this area you would think they would offer the highest level of support when they create problems for their customers.
ALL THE BAD REVIEWS ARE SO SPOT…
ALL THE BAD REVIEWS ARE SO SPOT ON...installation tech was late, broke my gate latch, then broke the cable box on side of house and left every bit of garbage possible right on the ground...service was very choppy cutting in and out, customer service is outsourced to india...can't understand a word they say and they blatantly lie to you....won't transfer you to a supervisor. was told several times the install fee was waived and it showed up on first bill..cancelled and they sent the return box to the wrong address. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!!!!
