Trade Me is little more than a drop shipping portal for tat from China theses days. Select NZ sellers only, and get bombarded with 'local' sellers who have set up drop ship accounts, with hilarious disclaimers saying things like 'this item is in stock in MY overseas warehouse'.
A real pity, because it was once an excellent place to move your unwanted stuff on.

They over use a chatbot which is not up to the task. I have yet to deal with a person despite multiple request. To top it off their charged fees are exorbitant, and also inaccurate based on their website. Like I said to them, they need to choose one or the other. To charge what they do and offer such poor customer service baffles me. I wouldn't be writing this if I'd had a response from them.

After returning to NZ after many years abroad working in Security, Corrections and Immigration Detention Centre I started to peruse the many job platforms. Some months later after applying for positions on Trademe, they just kicked me out. The only notification I got was “Error Banana 500”. Nothing more. After a couple of weeks of trying to make contact I was informed that when “buying or selling on trademe I needed to send in a copy Passport or D/L so as to verify ID. I’m not to liberal at handing out my Passport info therefore asked why they permitted me on there platform initially, for a couple of months. I also I for them that I wasn’t selling or buying rather I was job searching. The email I received back then changed it and stated all aspects of trademe needed client ID. I was somewhat perplexed and then finally read many bad reviews and decided to happily look at other platforms and even bypass trademe and contact employers successfully with resounding results. Yes, I agree with others trademe doesn’t appear to be very ethical. My advice to all… please look at other helpful platforms, avoid at all costs.

Name, address, phone number, email, verify email, enter oode. Username , password, verify again. Then after all that Give us a dollar to use this site. SO DECEPTIVE!

Trade Me is run by a bunch of incompetent muppets! Sellers actively refuse to communicate once money has passed over or the item has been delivered. Just lost over $900 due a purchase from Trade Me that ended up being faulty and despite having paid through ping for “Buyer Protection” refused to assist me on the basis that I had somehow altered the product, despite the fault clearly being hardware and not software related (also that the warranty was expired even though the seller claimed it was not, which TradeMe just conveniently ignored)

Their fees are very high (daylight robbery) and can't get a reply to a question when needed.

Trade me is so fricking frustrating - its impossible to get hold of anyone, the website says use chat but it doesnt work. Ive tried 4 times, it wont accept a correct email address and is insisting on that before being able to proceed - 24 times Ive tried. The service is non existent and pathetic. Trade Me, you don't deserve to be in business - Sort your shit out !

It used to be a great platform. I love the concept but they have so many technical problems in the past few months. We cannot offer prices after the listing closed, cannot edit or delete feedback if you make a mistake. It says it allows but can’t. Contact support and they can’t even figure it out themselves. They took out so many features that it used to be allow and now you can’t. support team is sometimes not aware of it and can’t figure out how to fix it.

Recently, I listed my Prius for sale and spent around 62 NZD, but I didn't receive any responses or inquiries through it. I used the same picture and posted it on Facebook Marketplace, where I received many responses and finally sold it to someone. So, if you're selling your car, don't use this platform. Marketplace is a better alternative and it's free.

TradeMe is now in a very poor state. The website is drastically in need of a complete overhaul. The 'My Products' section is painfully slow and has so many bugs it's not funny. It's also totally impossible to contact anyone at the organisation to discuss these issue. If you are thinking of joining TMe I'm afarid I would have to recommend that you look elsewhere.

Receiving a single piece of negative feedback has significantly impacted my experience. Additionally, I'm confused about the auction closing times that don't seem to close as scheduled. It feels like there is someone behind the scenes manipulating the auctions. Also, the car yard sellers are aware of vehicle information, but aren't disclosing important vehicle information.

TradeMe failed to act on abusive texts and emails from a buyer.

They left his review, deleted mine saying it was retaliatory as I stated that future sellers and buyers should read his reviews before interacting with him.

The returned item was heavily scratched and had obviously been dismantled.

I can no longer use Trade me because they are making it compulsory to use Ping adding a further 2.19% to their charges

Really gone down hill. Used to be easy to use. new layout difficult to use. Fees are sky high. More and ore fees! They have just added yet another fee and it is for buyers!. Had difficulty recently where they locked my account and i could not bid or edit any of my listings. They cliamed i was running duplicate accounts. But it was my wifes account. Has taken days to resolve. Have missed auctions and been unable to edit any pricing. Their support is poor to non-existent. As per a lot of users, i just wish there was an alternative, but unfortunaletly Trademe seem to have a monopoly and everypne continues to pay their ever increasing fees.

Trade Me Support Experience.

I recieved this for using the question and answer section of a trader who was charging $569.99 for
Multi Zone Air Fryer Oven by Sunbeam falsly claiming that it was the RRP I checked the Sunbeam website of both Australia where this trader is located and New Zealand where I am ,
they currently sell this same item for $299.00 in
both countries , Noel lemming and the Warehouse charges $285.00 and other sellers charge even less,
so I used the question and answer section to ask why this trader was charging twice as much on average to everybody else , so I could save other buyers from being ripped off the trader responded with a sarcastic and argumentative answer which
culminated into a bit of a question and answer battle and the trader complaining to Trademe ,
this trader is still listing this item on trademe for $569.99 , if anybody wants to see for them selves.
Also nearly every other purchase I have made on
trademe , think they are NZ traders have been international traders , with too many of them saying
items will arrive in 2 or 3 days then being emailed to
say items were not in stock resulting in the items taking 2 or 3 weeks if I did not request a refund , this
has happened to my with the last 3 items purchased
from different traders and not even recieving one of
the items at all ,trademe has become completely unusable for me , I would like to see how many other
people are experiencing these type of issues.

It has become impossible to contact anyone at Trademe. Am having an issue not being able to pay with Afterpay (no problem anywhere else) ..emails to customer service on Trademe bounce back, there are no valid phone numbers. no lives chat. no-one reads messages on Facebook or Instagram.Its enormously frustrating having been on Trademe for 15 years with excellent feedback to just be ignored with zero help when needed....Used to be so easy to contact customer service...those days are GONE

More than useless customer service if you have an issue with something you bought . Buy nothing from this site.

This Site is full of scams and fake goods. They will not help you regardless you are a seller or buyer all they care is collecting very high fees
7.9% plus ping 2.19% on top and after pay 4.95% what a joke. I can’t wait to see face book market place and other platforms run them over crunch them like sand . Horrible people and horrible company.

Not for the first time, was charged a "success fee" on a transaction that was never completed because of an inconsiderate trader. The "buy now" facility assumes that a sale has been made before any exchange of funds actually takes place with the "success fee" being charged regardless. The seller is then forced to claim back the fee when the buyer doesn't follow through. What a great money making scheme! In the meantime your item has been taken out of the market while you get messed about by the buyer and TM. This is probably barely legal. We had the misfortune of dealing with one trader with over 30 complaints about him using the "buy now" facility and not completing the sale. If we had the choice, we would not have traded with him, only with the "buy now" facility you don't get to choose. Traders with a dodgy track record will know this. Moreover, TM are not going to sanction this behaviour because these dodgy traders are doing TM a huge service. How many sellers are denied a refund or don't bother claiming a refund? This feature must generate $$$$. Is this even legal?
And I haven't even got to the many scammers allowed to slither around on this platform!
TM - A perfect example of the many ways on-line market places fail by being used to service the investment interests of its owners first and foremost. All sales, sales sales and very poor service.
NB: I returned to TM having closed my account for all of the above and aforementioned reasons given by other reviewers. I hoped it might have improved. It has not.
