I fell for it. Paid then discovered the company is fraudulent by a chance conversation with vet 2 days after ‘renewing’. Microchips do not expire. Track a Pet’s Email had all my details including my pet’s microchip number. I’ve wasted hours today cancelling bank card and notifying PayPal then to add salt into the wound PayPal has emailed that my claim has been investigated and the decision has gone in the seller’s favour. This is because I couldn’t find any option on the PayPal phone claim option list that referred to a fraud. The nearest was ‘unauthorised payment’ which of course it wasn’t because. I did fall for the scam and authorised payment. I’ve appealed and been able this time to explain the situation in my own words so hopefully, Track a Pet will not be successful a third time, in gaining validation as well as hard earned money from their dishonest fraudulent thieving so-called business.

This mercenary bunch of aresholes have hacked a customer database of a microchip agency and are ILLEGALLY asking for money to keep that microchip active. Microchips are for life! Avoid these wankers!!
Report this scam. get in touch with your microchip[ company and alert them that their database has been hacked if you get an email from Trackapet!

Unfortunately for them I am lazy and my wife did all of the microchip registration and used her email address.

I stupidly fell for this scam and I should have realised that in the 7 years I have had my pet I haven’t once paid to renew her microchip and I only checked for reviews after I had paid. Please do not make the same mistake. I have contacted my bank and raised a scam dispute but I doubt I’ll get my money returned.

trackapet.ai is a scam website trying to scam poor pet owners. their database is a scam that doesn't do anything. They're the same scammers behind petchip.info. they send out scam emails.

I checked with my vet and it's a scam.

Total scam, but the concern is they have all your details inc phone number. By the date stamps here, looks like they are mining a recently acquired data base

This is 100% a scam. They had old details on the information that came through (first red flag), I called the company I knew my pet is registered with and they confirmed it is a scam.
This is a private database that accesses people's data on pet chip databases, then emails them saying their chip is about to expire in the hope that people pay up. When in fact if they pay up they're just adding themselves to the private database as well as the one their microchip is actually managed by.
DO NOT REPLY TO EMAILS OR CLICK LINKS OR PAY THEM ANYTHING.

I am also concerned how they have all this personal information about myself and my pet. Who should they be reported to?

My dog is registered with another company, we don't know how Trackapet got hold of our details, including our name, address, phone number and microchip details, but they are nothing to do with the company we are registered with. We paid a one-off fee, but this company has written to us asking us to pay more. Who are they? How did they get hold of our details and why do they want us to pay them money?

Track A Pet are Petchip (petchip.network)

If you go to Florida business records online, you can find Track A Pet under Fictitious Names. They are owned by a company called MMEG-HUB, LLC who also owns PetChip. If you do a search in Fictitious Names, you'll find a lot of PetChip Fictitious Names (DBAs) for Petchip including Pet-Chip Network or Petchip.network.

If you've received emails from Petchip (I did), and now are receiving them from Track A Pet. They're the same people. At the time of writing this, Squarespace hosts their website and Google sends out the emails. You can look up how to report to them. If it's been awhile when you see this, check who's hosting before you send any reports. I just felt people should know about the connection and something they can do about it if they want.

Update 12/7/2025:

They still use Squarespace as their host.
They still use Google for incoming (according to their mx records) and outgoing (according to their SPF records).
They use Landbot for their chat bot.
I'm not sure what they use now for their database. They used to use Caspio based on archived versions of Petchip sites, but I'm not sure now.

All of them have ways of filing abuse reports.

Just received the email requesting to renew, yes renew my animals microchip? As others have said, my animal isn't registered with these people and microchips are FOR LIFE!!! They NEVER, EVER expire!!

I got an email last year as well from another fake company, so this is maybe a spin off / another site they have set up after the previous was closed down.

It's ashame I can't give 0 stars as they are just evil thieves.

Don't ever get drawn in by any of these emails and definitely don't part with any money.

Scammers - my pet isn’t even registered with this company. They have sent a request to renew registration for a payment.
My worry is that they have all my details and those of my pet.

Fake company, reported to Which? magazine scam alerts, and under investigation.

Another year later another company contacting me to say I need to pay to reregister my dog's microchip.
I have checked the gov.uk registry which reported that the microchip number is registered.
How has this company obtained my details? I consider myself very tech aware and can spot fake emails, websites and phishing communications a mile off.
I have had dogs all my life and microchips DO NOT expire. Don't ever agree to pay yearly to keep an animal 'registered'.
