The professional manner in which Stephen Boyd and his team at Athena Law dealt with our timeshare claim against Club la Costa was excellent. Despite the many delays, especially those relating to the time it took for the Financial Ombudsman Service to begin considering our claim, Mr Boyd has always kept us informed as to its progress, or lack of it. Although disappointed with the decisions made by the FOS in terms of our full claim, we are grateful that Mr Boyd continued too act for us until a final settlement was agreed. Considering the time scale involved with our case, (2017-2024), we were also very pleased with the level of our legal costs. We bought a Timeshare in 2016 at the Azure resort in Malta. It did not take us long to realise what a big mistake it was, tying ourselves to a long contract which would involve us paying a yearly maintenance fee as well as tying our children into the contract long after our deaths. We had sleepless nights and were consumed with worry and looked for a way out. There seemed to be lots of firms vying for our custom who promised they could do this, but which could we trust? After searching on the internet we came across Stephen Boyd at Athena Solicitors and were impressed by what he wrote. We contacted him and it was the best decision we could have made. He was reassuring and confident that he could not only get us out of the contract, but that he would be able to get a refund of the £16,000 we had paid for the timeshare, of which £3,000 was the deposit. First of all, he got us out of the contract (what a relief that was!) then he got Barclays to refund us the £13,000 we had borrowed. This happened quite quickly. We never expected to see the £3,000 deposit again, nor the three annual maintenance fees we had paid, but never used. These amounted to approximately £1,200. Stephen told us that we were entitled to this as well and set about making it happen. Barclays were very slow to sort this out, seemingly drawing the process out as long as they could. Stephen never gave up on us and pursued Barclays and the Financial Ombudsman with emails and held meetings until, finally, they refunded all they owed, with 8% annual interest on top!.
We could not have wished for a better, totally trustworthy person to act on our behalf. He took a personal interest in our case. He was always there for us, responding quickly to any concerns we had. One company kept pestering us to sign up with them and kept on phoning us regularly. They made unfounded allegations about what would happen if we did not join them (it seems to be a bit like the wild west out there). I remember phoning Stephen on at least two occasions about this and he always got back to me, assuring me not to worry.
It has been a long, drawn out process, especially the last eighteen months waiting for Barclays to fulfil their obligations, but Stephen, as I wrote above, never gave up and brought the whole process to a happy conclusion.
I can only recommend Stephen and Athena Law in the highest possible terms. His care and professionalism were first class and we can never thank him enough for all he has done for us.

finally speaking to Martin someone who explained everything truthfully and in full detail, Letting me know exactly where i stand, instead of stringing me along giving me false hope, I lost my winnable case for £28.000 against CLC due to my previous Lawyers JLCA and AS dealing with my case for over 7 years in Spain where as well as running out of time and failing to get judgement for cases to be herd in Spain did not tell me i could of done it through England with no problems,and in quick time so effectively they lost me my claim through not informing me of the facts, i feel cheated by this as it could of been Won

After receiving a cold call from a company supposedly representing Club la costa saying that I could be liable for backdated time share fees even though I had not had a timeshare for 13 years. They told me that my membership had been re activated and that is the reason I may owe the fees. At a price this company said that they could act as intermediaries before my details were passed onto a debt recovery firm and arrange payments and get me out of the membership. After being given conflicting advice from supposedly timeshare advice centres I became worried as I did not want to be on any debt list.
I then sought the help of a solicitor as I wanted this matter finalised as my wife and I were very concerned.
I contacted Athena solicitors who I found on the Internet. I told them of my concerns and was told that my details would be passed on to the relevant department and someone would contact me when available.
The following day I received a call back from Athena solicitors and spoke to Martin Clynes.
Martin was very knowledgeable and professional and explained to me the law surrounding time share ownership. Martin informed me that the phone calls I had received were definitely scam calls and that I should ignore them and not to worry. Martin certainly put my mind at ease with his expert advice.
