My experience was not a happy one
My experience was not a happy one . Firstly they refused to carry out the work on the agreed date ( possible asbestos in floor adhesive ) something that should have been raised in thelr initial report . Secondly they cancelled the next agreed time with no justifiable explanation Thirdly they reneged on their offer of paying for a survey . Why sign a 15 paragraph contract that’s in Timberwise’s favour? Just use a local contractor like I did with no big upfront payment and local service . They only visited site once . Their operative was unable to converse effectively with their surveyor on mobile and was not able to converse fully with myself which was unfair to their employee ( on his own) and to me as the customer .

We’re genuinely sorry to hear that this experience left you feeling disappointed. That’s never the outcome we want for any customer.
When our technician attended as planned, a potential asbestos-containing material was identified beneath the parquet flooring. For everyone’s safety, the works were paused so that independent testing could be carried out. This is standard practice where there is any risk, and although we appreciate the inconvenience this caused, we believe it was the responsible course of action. The subsequent test confirmed the area was clear.
Unfortunately, when we returned to site and during later conversations, our team were subjected to behaviour that we felt was unacceptable. As a company, we have a duty of care to our staff, and on that basis we made the decision not to proceed further with the works. All monies paid to Timberwise for the treatment were refunded in full. The only cost not refunded was the third-party asbestos testing fee, which covered an external service already carried out.
We understand your frustration and respect your decision to use an alternative contractor. We’re sorry things didn’t work out on this occasion, and we do wish you all the best with the completed works.

Damp control summer 2024
Ignored the fact that i really needed lime plaster to allow stone walls to breathe.
They just wanted to tank everything as well as no advice on electrolysis that i was contemplating. Further advice from builder did not advise it.
Nearly £20k! Did not go ahead

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience David.
We are sorry to hear that the advice you received did not align with what you felt was right for your property, particularly given the importance of breathability in stone walls. We understand how frustrating it can be when you are exploring different options and do not feel fully supported in those considerations.
We aim to provide recommendations based on our survey findings and professional judgement, but we appreciate that every property and situation is unique, and that homeowners may wish to explore alternative approaches or seek further opinions. We are sorry that on this occasion we did not meet your expectations.
If you would like to discuss this further or would welcome a review of the advice that was given, we would be happy to do so. Your feedback is valuable and helps us improve how we support our customers.
Illegal works suggested- avoid at all costs
DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY-
We were in the process of buying a grade 2 listed property, after having a level 3 home buyers report, our mortgage provider also required we have another survey, from a PCA approved company, (not that this means anything when buying an old home) and we were fooled by the good reviews Timberwise had.
Timberwise suggested a £33k plastic damp membrane around the inside of the cob house, (a material that needs to breathe) so this work would eventually destroy the fabrications of the house in question, as well as the adjoining property.
When we questioned Timberwise on how/why this suggested, their response contradicted itself several times over, claiming the damp was coming from the outside but all work needed to be completed on the inside, pushing the damp next door / further up the property, when I asked if this would make more problems in the future I had no response.
The work suggested was illegal to be completed on a listed property because of how invasive/destructive it was, anyone with even a small amount of knowledge on old properties/cob homes should know this.
I am in the process of creating a formal complaint as these suggestions should NOT be made on a historical property, I thought surveyors would care more about the integrity of a home, but this is not the case, they just want to implement 'modern' solutions at an inflated cost.
I should also add that even raising a formal complaint has been difficult!
If I could give 0 stars I would.

Thank you for taking the time to leave your review Heather. We are sorry to hear that you were dissatisfied with your experience and understand why recommendations relating to a listed and traditionally constructed property would raise concerns.
Following your review, we carried out a full internal review of the survey, specification and correspondence. The cavity drain membrane system referenced is a well-established and widely used solution and is not unlawful for use within Grade I or Grade II listed buildings. Subject to the appropriate permissions being obtained, this system has been successfully specified on numerous listed and historic properties across the UK, including buildings of national significance and properties of cob construction.
All recommendations provided by Timberwise are based on the observations made at the time of inspection, industry-recognised methods and long-standing experience working with non-standard and heritage buildings. Our reports also clearly explain the requirement for listed building consent where applicable and outline the client’s responsibility to obtain approval prior to any works being undertaken. We routinely engage with conservation officers and local authorities to discuss and, where necessary, adapt proposed specifications.
We appreciate that you ultimately decided not to proceed and regret that the recommendations did not meet your expectations. While we stand by the professional advice given, we have offered a refund of the survey fee as a gesture of goodwill.
We take all feedback seriously and remain committed to providing considered, appropriate advice for historic and listed properties.
Exceptional Service from Initial Contact Through to Completion
Exceptional Service from Initial Contact Through to Completion.
I cannot recommend Timberwise highly enough. From first engagement through to job completion and aftercare, they have been outstanding. This is a company that genuinely delivers on its promises to the highest standard. They operate professionally, go above and beyond to help, care deeply about the value they provide, and consistently exceed expectations.
Expert Survey and Support
My surveyor, Dennis Desmond, was exemplary. He was clear, knowledgeable, and incredibly patient, taking the time to help me understand what had happened, why it had occurred, and precisely what needed to be done to resolve the issue. Dennis went far beyond his remit to support me in navigating insurance matters, helping me understand both my responsibilities and those of the insurers. Throughout, he acted with complete integrity and professionalism.
Outstanding Workmanship
The team that carried out the work, led by Brian Hicks, arrived punctually and conducted themselves professionally and courteously. They were mindful of our neighbours and completed the job on time, within budget, and to an exceptionally high standard—with no unexpected additions or hidden costs.
Seamless Administration
The booking process with Connie Copsey, Jackie Lendon, and Debbie Nisbet was effortless. They over-communicated in the best possible way, were consistently clear, followed up promptly, and were an absolute delight to work with.
Final Recommendation
If you're looking for a knowledgeable company that acts with integrity, makes your life easy, and delivers work to the highest standard, Timberwise is the team you need. I wouldn't hesitate to use them again or recommend them to others.

Quality, respect and genuine people
Felt supported throughout the process. Jack visited multiple properties with us before we purchased and it always felt like he was on our team. He clearly explained what he saw in a way that we understood (even for elements that didn’t require Timberwise work). The team that then came to carry out our required works (Ricky and Stuart) were incredibly lovely and respectful. They left the house spotless and cleared up every day, even though they were coming back the next morning. The work was also excellent, we can’t fault any part of our experience.

Very happy with the work by Timberwise
Very happy with the work by Timberwise. Work was to address penetrating damp though my dining room wall. Quote was competitive. They were very flexible arranging the work around building work being done by another company, liaising this company when necessary. Technician, Kevin, was polite and friendly, completing the work to a good standard. Used plenty of floor coverings and kept the place clean and tidy. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend.

Professional, considerate & helpful
Dealing with all the staff, whether the office staff or those carrying out the repair work has been good. All polite and helpful. In particular we would like to mention Adrian who carried out the damp proofing, replacement of rotten joists and necessary removal and reapplication of plaster, etc. Throughout his time at our house Adrian was punctual and started work straight away. We also felt that he took great pride in his work and also took great care to keep all mess to a minimum and ensured those areas not involved in the work were well protected from the inevitable dust and dirt. During the course of carrying out the work originally quoted it was found that further work was necessary. The reason was not only fully explained but also we could see why it was necessary when the timbers were exposed. It was clearly a shock financially but having seen how the work had been carried out up to that point, almost totally by Adrian, we decided to stay with Timberwise as the work carried out up to then gave us confidence that the extra work would be carried out professionally and timeously and we were not disappointed in that regard. We would have no hesitation in recommending this firm.

Timberwise have been an excellent…
Timberwise have been an excellent company to deal with start to finish. The office staff were polite and accommodating and the surveyor was brilliant. I assumed a plaster problem, perhaps rising damp and expected an expensive damp course quote. The surveyor noted that the problem was an external guttering problem and suggested having this fixed to see if the problem is resolved before spending thousands unnecessarily. The surveyor even managed to fit in a quick inspection with a neighbours fault, offering free, informed advice. Amazing service, and if I find that I do need a damp course long term, I won't hesitate to go back to Timberwise.
