Cheap prices, helpful sales but after you pay, the threatening emails and ridiculous requests for very personal information start. They want photocopies of everything.
You will be 'fined' £25 to cancel within the 14 day cooling off period when you realise. Ask exactly what they want from you before committing, don't wait for the after sales email request as that's too late. They 'try' to reply to emails and questions within 10 working days.... how efficient, they demand the info within 7 days so no room for questioning their reasons 🙄
The 'nice' people become aggressive and rude if you want to cancel. Abysmal customer service. God knows how bad they get if you want to claim. The whole experience shouted of a company ensuring they will always have a reason not to pay out.
You have to sign that you personally will inform them of a possible claim within 48hrs or suffer a £500 fine. In hospital? Unconscious? Tough, you agreed. 'Estimated mileage?' They don't know the definition of estimation. You have to sign you agree they may not pay out in full or part if you exceed the estimate although you've already agreed to inform them. They decide whether they need to take more money for 'their reasons', and will charge your card without permission. They ask for your full driver number & NI number so they can check your licence with DVLA. They perform the check as if they are you! This isn't allowed / illegal 😠
Be very careful, you've been warned.

Amber was very good to deal with and pleasant with it. I have been with Stavely head for a year and have just renewed my policy I have not had any issues with them so far and hopefully this will continue.

Absolutely crooked. Cancelled my insurance with them after a month as they were so bad. Had to keep chasing as it took 2 months to get a refund. Finally they refunded me £49 on a £250 premium! What a scam!!

Would never recommend this company! I do not know how they can take your money (this was for a Motorhome Policy) then for several days after they are requesting information! Surely you do not provide a quote until you have all the information. Some of the information they asked for ie. my national insurance no. I have never been asked for in all my life on any motor insurance. I think the only information they didn't require was what colour knickers I was wearing!
Five weeks to refund my money!

Literally the worst company for insurance I have dealt with in 45 years. Required to send ncb information on two other vehicles, proof of address, licence pictures and so on. After sending these in post and uploaded to their site, got a email saying no proof supplied and an extra charge of £187 needs paying in 7 days and if not done they will automatically take it from card used.
Never ever use these again.

Even managing to significantly reduce my premium from last year!

Staveley Head (insurance broker) customer service is dreadful! I purchased campervan insurance via Confused.com on 13/7 which was due to start on 25/7. I thought the policy was good value at £216 (I rarely use my campervan) and heard nothing from them until I returned from a 2 week holiday in South Africa (17/8-1/9). I logged into my emails on Saturday 2/9 to find 2 emails from Staveley Head dated 24/8 (while I was away!) requesting various information including copy of the V5, proof of address, NCB proof, lots of internal and external photos of my VW campervan, mileage declaration (the list goes on!) etc. These two Staveley Head emails were then followed with a email dated 25/8 informing me that my policy was to be cancelled at 3pm that day! (while I was still on holiday without any access to my emails!). I then received an email from "onesureinsurance" (part of Staveley Head) on 26/8 confirming my policy had been cancelled and I had been charged £173 (of the £216 annual premium paid on 13/7) for doing so! This equates to 80% of the policy premium for what was effectively 4 weeks cover for a VW camper that hasn't moved. I also believe that they would have also tried to wriggle out of any claims even if I had made a claim in the period on the grounds that I hadn't had chance to send them the onerous list of information in time!) When I called Staveley Head on 4/9 they apologized and said that all I needed to do was to send the information in, which I did the same day, bearing in mind my camper was no longer insured. After not getting any form of response from them I called them today (7/9) only to be told that they were only willing to sell me a new policy!
I don't know if Staveley Head are legitimate broker or a scam business. I only wish that I had read Trustpilot first as I can see others have been dupped in the same way I have with these unreasonable last minute information requests. They appear to attract customers with low premiums only to cancel the premium by requesting lots of information without giving customers reasonable chance of providing the information in time in order to cancel the policy and charge customers the bulk of the premium for a few weeks cover! The breakdown of the £173 cost I was sent showed that they earned £20 to set up the policy but a massive £85 when they cancel it for failing to send to send the long list of evidence within hours of requesting it! That's 4x's more than the fees for setting the policy up in the first place. So there is more incentive for them to cancel policies for failing to read the small print when you take out the policy! Beware of the small print and poor customer service which appears to be focused on tripping customers up in order to charge the large cancellation fee. The MD of Staveley Head) should be ashamed of having to use these type of practices to boost profits!
Beware not to fall into the same Staveley Head small print trap!!!!!
To add insult to injury, the email dated 26/8 informing me that my policy had been cancelled, stated that the remaining balance of £43 owed to me credit "will be held until instructions are received from the insurance company
that funds can be released" which could take up to 6 weeks!!!!!!

BEWARE and AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!!
( I was a director for a large UK insurance company for many years (the company name starting and ending with "A"), and I never encountered such poor practices from brokers!)

After leaving my previous bad review of this company, I have heard back from them. The only thing they were focused on was “we didn’t ask for 20 photos, don’t know where you got that figure from”. I thought I’d update the review. They were correct….they only asked for 17 photos! Just to give anyone else silly enough to go with these guys the information, they require photos of - front and side of the camper, cooking facilities, storage cupboards, door to living area, seating area, bed, water tank, mileage, no claims proof, every page of your V5 document, driving licence front and back, driving licence summary from gov website and a utility bill.
Imagine needing to make a claim with these guys!
Oh and the tiny refund they say you are entitled to can take up to 6 weeks to go through.

Fantastic Amber was professional courteous and friendly .can't fault the service .

Possible scam company... beware.

Normal procedure from a comparison website - they were good value. In the weeks since I received a recorded letter from them the day before a bank holiday weekend stating they had a list of requirements to fulfil, and I must post these back. The morning of the next working day after the bank holiday weekend, I get a text saying they are cancelling my insurance at 3pm that day unless I comply with their demands.

Whilst I understand that some details are needed, in 30 years I have never seen a list of demands to be met that is so vast, and honestly unachievable in this day and age of zero customer interaction between public and customer service.

They wanted DVLA licsence validations for all drivers - never ever been asked for this..
Second car no claims bonus - (which when you change insuarnce companies every year - how is this possible in this day and age? - no other companies ask to prove this.)
Main no claims bonus - first time I have ever been asked to prove this - is it not held on a database? no other policy ever asked us to do this?
Proof of tracker fitments - most are diy now, so not possible.
utility bills.. come on... no one else does this?

Honestly the list was so large and time consuming to collate it could well have ended up a good days work for two people on the policy.

I am awaiting a refund from them as I refused to jump through their hoops, and anticipate a poultry refund - and am wondering if this is actually a scam / business model for them from the get go, they were a lot cheaper.

be warned - my advice would be to pay a little more and go with a known company.

Update -
from a £300 fee to insure for a year, they have refunded £75 - I was covered by them for 2-3 weeks before they demanded additional paperwork. This is clearly a business model - or perhaps you could say - a legal scam. Avoid at all costs!!

Update 2 -
As per their request below, I did contact them, they asked for more details which I gave them, and unsurprised to report that there was no further contact.. good little business model for them... pay for 12 months, get one!

I was asked so many more questions by this company than any other in my 50 odd years of insuring vehicles. Yes, their motorhome insurance was cheap, initially. Then, they wouldnt accept my previous no claims bonus as I was self employed, so they said that was commercial and didnt count. That was an extra £96. Then due to a change of family circumstances and a funeral a long distance away, I contacted them to say my mileage would need to be increased to an average of 10000 per year. For this they wanted another £145. We were also thinking of going overseas in the motorhome this year and this, again , would have been extra. I totally lost confidence in this company and could see them refusing to pay out ,in the event of any future claim, due to some hidden clause. I cancelled last week, and was charged a total of £120 to cancel. Appaling customer service. They took the cancelation fee from my origonal deposit card details. I have now gone back to a more reputable company and no problems at all, and actually cheaper! Glad to be free of them but annoyed at their extortionate 'extra' fees.

Well, what can i say but absolute pleasure doing business with Stavely Head. I have been with them for 8 years and have had exemplary service. I had an issue with renewing my Motorhome insurance and a Customer Service chap named Zak helped me sort it.
He was very professional and to the point. Answered all my questions in a manor not seen much these days. It was good to be served, once again, with professionalism, and respect. He sorted it and i am now a "Happy Camper". Defo recommend this company for all things insurance.

Brilliant to work with and LEAH O SULLIVAN (sorry if not spelt correctly) was the most professional person I have dealt with in a long time. She made me hade a really positive view on the company and I hope you have a good bonus system😉😉

I insured with Staveley Head insurance via a price comparison site for a campervan. It turns out that I cant use my car no claims (i have 9yrs+) which wasn't clear at time of policy. On this basis I have had to cancel - I have had the policy approximately 2 months and the annual policy price was £280. The cancellation fee including 2 months cover is a cost of £240 so I get a refund of only £40. This is criminal and the only reason I am cancelling is the misunderstanding around use of car no claims (most other insurers will take car no claims as input for a campervan policy, I dont want to lose 9yrs no claims hence the only reason for cancelling). Based on my experience I would seriously consider whether you take insurance out via Staveley Head based on what I would consider underhand business practises backed up by small print.
