Skarper works really well at eliminating hills. It's easy to click on and off and gets me out on days I don't feel like a strenuous ride. I only use the lowest setting Eco and if I had a criticism it'... Zobacz więcej

Really useful and fun
Skarper is a really great idea and it's really well designed.
I live in an area with hills and I have arthritic knees so the assistance it gives me makes cycling much more pleasurable and allows me to make journeys that would be painful and/or exhausting without it.
I have two bikes (a run-around and a tourer) and I don't want to give them up or buy yet another bike, so Skarper is perfect for me.
Still worth every penny!
=== June 2026 update ===
I stand by my original review after spending more time with the kit. I now use it primarily to assist me when I get tired, which has allowed me to travel significantly longer distances.
I also realised that having this detachable kit can save a lot of money if the bike gets stolen, because I won't need to buy another kit, only a non-electric bike. This isn't the case with electric bikes or permanent conversion kits.
One improvement I would suggest is a more precise battery-level indicator. For instance, the light circle could flash a specific number of times to indicate battery levels at 10% increments.
=== Original review from Sep 2025 ===
Using Skarper for my commute over the past couple of months has been an absolute blast! The eco mode gives me all the juice I need for my 22-mile (35 km) round trip. Plus, Dynamic Climb is a huge help, giving me a much-appreciated boost on a couple of tough hills in each direction. My fitness is improving, so I'm looking forward to riding longer distances with Skarper on standby.
A few other things I love:
- The installation was a bit tricky, but Team Skarper were amazing and helped me through it.
- It's super easy to click on and off the bike, and it's not a pain to carry around.
- The way you disengage and re-engage the unit by reverse-pedalling three times is so clever and simple!

Very much enjoying using daily for the commute to work. Makes the hills manageable and the ride enjoyable.
Had an issue with the pedal sensor, customer service was excellent. New sensor out the next day special delivery.
Recommend at least giving Skarper a try, great investment.
Smart, flexible e-bike solution
I received my Skarper drive unit in August and have been enjoying it ever since. I brought an old 26” bike back to life specifically for Skarper and will also be running it on my Kona gravel bike with 700c wheels. I still keep my 29er for bikepacking in its original (non-electrified) form.
The quoted range and battery life have proven very close to real-world use. What I like most is the flexibility — instead of cluttering my bikes with hub motors, controllers, batteries, throttles, and displays, I can just swap the Skarper unit between bikes in seconds. It’s neat, portable, and CE tested, so it stays legal and safe.
The DiscDrive is the system’s gearbox and transmission, replacing your standard rotor. It can be adapted to fit either Centre Lock or 6-bolt systems and currently supports 160mm rotors (with more sizes expected in future). Combined with the DynamicClimb technology, it powers you through your usual slow-downs on hills with ease.
The design is a little “Apple-like” — an enclosed system that just works. Elegant, hassle-free, and easy to live with, it feels like a proper piece of engineering, not a gimmick.
Skarper has received multiple prestigious awards recognizing its innovation and design, including the Red Dot Design Award 2025, the iF Design Gold Award 2025, and the Eurobike Award 2024. These accolades underline the thought and engineering that go into making this system both functional and stylish. I have done a full review on my YouTube channel called: tomonamission
The Skarper team are fantastic: friendly, helpful, and quick to answer questions. They’re also developing an app and other innovations, which is exciting to see. You can catch them at the National Cycling Exhibition and many other trade shows to test ride the system for yourself — highly recommended.
One month of Skarper review

Of all the crowdfunded projects I have…
Of all the crowdfunded projects I have invested in, Skarper is among the best ones I have engaged with. I risked a large sum paid in advance, and the kit I got back was phenomenal. A few hiccups with delivery, but the whole way, they responded to my emails, and made the effort to sort the delivery out with third parties.
I've just entered my 6 months of using the Skarper
I've just entered my 6 months of ownership for this ebike unit. For me its a game changer and a welcome evolution of electric bikes that opens the door for even the most hard line cyclists that are resistant to electric motors. I use it primarily as a hybrid, engaging the unit on the most difficult hills to accommodate my knee issues. The range stated on the website must be based on having the unit constantly on. I have gone well past this, doing 80km rides and still having an amber charge left using it in hybrid mode. Its great that I can engage and disengage the power without having to stop/get off the bike simply by reverse pedalling 3 tomes. Genius! There are other technical bits I can discuss but you should just go and have a look on the website. The support from the the skarper team during my ownership has been immediate on any queries that I've had. This unit is fitted to my boardman and its great that I can also just remove it and have my bike back when I want. This is not a one way conversion as on other electric options that I looked at. For me its a joy that has extended my cycling years that would otherwise have been curtailed. I'm looking forward to many more rides.
My Skarper experience after three months
I've now been using my Skarper for about three months, mainly for my commute which is about 20 miles each way. The unit has so far worked flawlessly and exceeded my expectations: it means I ride to work more often and arrive 10 minutes sooner than without the Skarper’s help, but more importantly I arrive feeling good and like I’ve had a pleasurable ride, rather than tired and covered in sweat.
Yes, I could achieve the same with a regular ebike, but I enjoy riding my current bike and have spent time and money customising it to my needs. I didn’t want to buy a dedicated ebike that would cost thousands to get a model of equivalent spec, which would take up space in the garage and also need maintaining. With the Skarper, I can use it for my commute but remove it in seconds at weekends when I go riding with friends.
You can of course buy other ebike conversion kits for less than the cost of a Skarper, but to my knowledge it’s unique in how it can be quickly added to and removed from a bike, which suits my needs perfectly. With the Skarper, I’m still riding my bike, it’s just better suited to my commuting needs; with it removed, I get to enjoy my bike purely for fun and exercise (though riding with the Skarper is also fun!).
It’s also worth mentioning that my Skarper customer experience has also been great so far. I was an early customer and had to wait many months for the unit to arrive, but when it did the quality of the packaging and instructions was excellent, the installation process was simple (I did it myself in 30 minutes), and any queries to the team have been answered promptly.
So, overall, I am a happy customer and would thoroughly recommend Skarper. I feel like the team has created the ideal product for my needs and it’s simply a more logical, practical and sustainable solution than buying a separate ebike.
Good communications and customer service.
I was delighted with the service and communications from the support team at Skarper who contacted me to let me know I could obtain a Skarper from a local company, who had one in stock, rather than serve out my time on the waitlist. They arranged return of the deposit, even though that was not straightforward in my circumstances, and kept me well-informed through the process. I share the Skarper with my spouse so we have found this to be a great way to extend both our cycling ranges while retaining much of the exercise benefits and also effectively halving the cost of adding an electric-drive option to our two bikes. We like having the option to "click-on" or not when we go out, as well as not having to maintain and service both an e-bike as well as a regular bike. Best of all worlds!
Easy to self install
I installed this on my mountain bike myself and it was very easy. Fabulous product which was very secure when travelling off-road .
Thank you!
Easy fun and pure joy
Easy fun and pure joy, it’s very simple with my Skarper, which was fitted to my existing hybrid bike. As an OAP I can now look forward to cycling further and for longer. They have great customer support too.
Skarper - Great Kit & Company
I have been interested in Skarper since I first saw it advertised on social media whilst it was still in development. The bikes I own currently I am very happy with but there are some times when I am riding that I would like some additional power. I didn't need or want to buy another bike. I received my Skarper in March and have been enjoying getting out and about with it. Installing the Skarper disk onto the bike is straightforward and and attaching and removing the power unit from the bike is simple. I have only ridden so far in the lowest power mode available and I have found it sufficient for my needs. When I don't feel I need the power assistance I simply pedal back 3 times to disengage the power and repeat this when I need the power again. At the moment I am using it only on my 22km each way Commute to work. With using the power when I need it I find the battery after the 44k is still in the amber power level so I think the battery range will meet my needs. I look forward to trying it out on some other local roads too and taking it away on holiday. As a campervan owner the weighty part of the Skaprer being detachable for transportation is another big plus for me as I have no need for an up-rated bike carrier which I would need for a conventional e-bike. As other reviewers have said it would be beneficial eventually to get some kind of battery indicator that you can see when riding but I understand that is in development. The team at Skarper have also been great to deal with, they helped arrange a demo for me on my own bike at one of their Scottish Dealers while I was waiting for my unit to arrive. They have also been friendly and helpful in answering any query I have had.
Keep the cycling love with Skarper!
We borrowed a Skarper to review while we were waiting for the one we have ordered to be delivered.
My wife and I love cycling together but I do a lot more miles, so we thought a bit of assistance might even things out.
You can fit the Skarper to any bike you already own so long as it has a rear disk brake. We fitted it to my wife’s well loved hybrid bike, a 10 year old Trek Neko. The unit sits under the chain stay and engages with a special hub that replaces the disk brake. This is where the power is provided. There’s also a simple anchor point on the chain stay. Once the hub and the anchor point are in place, it takes only a few seconds to remove or securely attach the Skarper. Finally, there’s a cadence sensor that fits to the crank.
We took our bikes to the Peak District for a few days holiday, where I rode my Trek Domane with gravel wheels and Sarah rode her Neko with the Skarper as we cycled the Monsall and Tissington trails.
The Skarper is easy to use and very, very effective. There are 3 power settings, and Sarah rode with the lowest level of assistance. The first challenge came when we had to go about 200m up a short but fairly steep hill (you know what the Peak District is like!). I had to drop to the small ring and dig in, but Sarah simply cruised to the top where I found her waiting for me. “How was that?”, I gasped. “Oh, I had to exert myself a bit” she said, cool as a cucumber.
After about 30 minutes we decided to stop for a coffee and a bun. It was dead simple to take the Skarper off and carry it into the cafe.
Then we did a bit more cycling to test out some more of the Skarper’s features. If you don’t need assistance it’s easy to switch the unit off for a bit by simply pedalling backwards for 3 revolutions. Pedal backwards again, and it switches back on to the same setting you were previously using. If you want to change the setting it seems you have to stop to press a little button. That seems a small inconvenience when offset against the device’s portability and simplicity of use.
Our next trip was to Holland. We did some slightly longer rides including a fantastic day cycling on a trail through the sand dunes north of the Hook of Holland - about 40k there and back. We encountered a minor problem on this ride, as the Skarper slipped off its forward anchor point. I sent a WhatsApp message to Skarper who responded almost immediately. A quick video call with Uri and he quickly identified a simple issue with the way the anchor point had been mounted. Problem solved! I was so impressed by the speed of the response.
Having tested the Skarper over several rides of different lengths and varying terrain, I can say that the Skarper is a fantastic and effective device that’s simple intuitive to use. Charge the Skarper up, click it onto a bike you love, switch it on, and away you go. Keep the cycling love with Skarper!
Great device, great company to deal with.
Excellent communication through the purchase process and went very smoothly using Cyclescheme. Device arrived earlier than expected. I had thought that it might be tricky to install as they promote bike shop installation, but I’m no bike mechanic and I managed it easily. The only tool I really needed to look for was a T25 torx screwdriver that I had in a socket set from Lidl, which was to remove the brake disc.
It’s pretty hilly in my part of Scotland and I’ve found it great to smooth out the hills on full assistance and a perfect amount of help on lowest setting when riding slight inclines on local NCN cycle paths. It would be great to have the app to switch between levels of assistance on the go and to see battery life.
I love my bike and I love that I can get even more out of it with my Skarper installed!
Skarper is a brilliant piece of kit
Skarper is a brilliant piece of kit, but the range for me is somewhat limited, and there is no warning when the battery dies, which it has done now on a few occasions leaving me with a hill to home and no assistance. I have started taking the charger with me and plugging it in when I stop at a cafe. For me I like to do 40mile rides and it's not too hilly in my area so one charge won't last. It gives me too much assistance at times and pedalling backwards to turn it off and on is not a natural thing to do, especially if in a group!!
It really needs a display on the handle bars so it can be switched off and on easily and you can see how much battery is left. I understand an App for a phone is in progress so can't wait for that to appear. But for people commuting or doing shorter distances it is great.
Incredible genius product
Incredible genius product - so hi tech!! The sensors pick from turning the first pedal! It's unbelievable. It's the only thing that has enabled me to cycle using a tandem!! Amazing! Highly recommended - would've given 6 stars if allowed!!
Absolutely love it
I have used my Skarper for a while now to commute to and from work. I ride a single speed and it is about 7km each way. Everyday, I would arrive to work very sweaty but now using the Skarper, the journey is easy and I arrive feeling fine. I work on my feet so after a 12 hour shift, the ride back was even worse but now it's just pleasant. It really has improved my quality of life.
I love my Skarper!
I love my Skarper. It has made my cycling so easy, but I still get the choice not to use it. So for local rides I don't, but for longer rides I definitely do! It has three modes, but I never use more than the eco mode and it is very responsive. It clips on and off the bike easily. It is relatively heavy to carry around, but I do love the fact that I can lock my bike and leave it, and not worry about it, because it is just a normal boring looking bike.
The only downside I have noted is that battery life could be longer. I have so far not got more than about 35k out of it, but that is in London with a lot of stopping and starting.
Cycling has become a really viable way of getting round town.
So I'm telling all my friends, go get one, and looking forward to getting an adapter to be able to move it to my road bike for out if town rides!
The best E-Bike for Bike lovers!
I Love my Skarper!
It’s the best of both worlds, my great existing bike and a high end e-bike when I want it.
I especially like that I can take Skarper with me when I have to leave my bike somewhere.
I am pleasantly surprised with the range as well. I am not sure what the max range is but I have been able to get multiple 40km+ rides to work and back.
Even the wife is happy as I was able to avoid adding a separate E-Bike to the family collection.
