Avoid for the sake of your sanity

Pleased with the overall finish of the product but in the interests of your sanity, do not deal with this company. Weeks of delays, unanswered calls/email, passed from pillar to post in terms of the people in the office (none of whom seem to have the foggiest of what is going on with individual orders), the whole experience was exasperating. On a final delay, caused by different teams of fitters visiting the site FOUR TIMES, we then needed to erect further scaffolding on top of the scaffold we were already overpaying for due to Shaws' delays. The company director said on the phone he would pay for this - £250 - and then reneged on his promise, offering £100 "as a gesture of goodwill".
The level of customer service at every level is utterly appalling and quite surprising for a small local business, who we were keen to support. On the plus side, the fitters were great guys, who were a pleasure to deal with.
Such a shame overall.

It is depressing to be one of the…

It is depressing to be one of the customers who is very disappointed with Shaws of Brighton. They replaced a conservatory roof three years ago. Despite three return visits and my paying for them to fix their own install errors, they haven’t been able to seal it properly. My wall is being permanently damaged by their negligence, which they are now blaming the wall, not their inability to seal the work correctly. Proceed with caution or better yet, don’t use if you want good quality

I had a back door and small window replaced. Overall I was satisfied with the outcome. The fitters were friendly and did a very neat job, leaving everything spotless.
Office staff communication could be improved. There was one small thing missing which I pointed out and the next day I was already chased for payment by another staff member.
A small hiccup though in the great scheme of things.

A long wait…

We had our windows measured for secondary glazing in August 2022 and paid the deposit at that time. We were told it would take 10 to 12 weeks the windows were finally fitted today 20 weeks after the deposit was paid.
The communication from the company was poor, we were not contacted by them at the 12 week point and calls were not returned. Various excuses were made for the delay such as supply problems and a muddle up with the measurements.
However Jon and JIm who came today to fit the windows were brilliant they have done an excellent job and we are very pleased with the end result. The product is good quality and looks lovely on the windows.
I would struggle to recommend this company based on my experience with customer services .

Total Nightmare

This company is so bad it has to be experienced to be believed. Their customer service and office administration is truly terrible. Once you sign a contract with them and pay your deposit there is no communication from their customer service team.

I ordered £10k of windows in June 2021. I was told delivery would take 7 weeks. 8 weeks later I contacted them, no reply. One month later I contacted them again, no reply. My first communication from Shaws was 7 months after I placed the order, only to be told that they didn’t have most of the windows.

They then told me that they had a new manufacturer and in early April 2022 stated that delivery would be 5-7 weeks. 8 weeks later I contacted them about my windows only to be told they “thought” they had been ordered and then that they expected them in August which was 14 months after I ordered them!

I told them to cancel the order as they were clearly in breach of contract and I wanted my deposit back. They refused to cancel the order and I had to instruct a solicitor to get them to reconsider and refund my deposit for the outstanding windows.

Shaws belated explanation of what happened to my order, if it is to be believed, demonstrates an office process which is not fit for purpose; a staggering lack of professionalism or competence.

During my dealings with Shaws I have repeatedly asked to speak to a director only to be met with a series of lame excuses why it is not possible.

So after over a year of unnecessary stress I have had only 2 windows supplied, (I no longer trust them to fit anything) the larger of which is fit only for the tip, (the door doesn’t close properly, the frame is scratched and the astragal bars are a completely different colour to the frame) and a solicitors bill.

Before signing a contract please do your own research into Shaws and save yourself a lot of unnecessary grief. I wish I had. There are genuine reviews online if you look for them.

Incompetent and rude

Ordered a piece of replacement table glass from this company, so this was not an installation as such. Impression they were not used to dealing with members of the public, rather than trade. I gave meticulously calculated measurements - but the finished product is short by one millimetre in all directions, including depth (thickness)! A glass company that does not know how to measure glass? Yep, this is the one.

Add to this, the potentially dangerous loose carpet at the entrance – my foot went under it and I stumbled – a source of amusement and mockery for the loafer with his feet on the desk who then proceeded to ignore me. Oh, and don't expect them to wrap or protect the glass in any way when you collect. They don't.

Guys, if you have so little interest and respect for your job and clients, leave the place and get work elsewhere. One of these days an American will walk through your doors and sue you out of business when they trip on that loose carpet and crack their head on a display of glass.

absolutely appauling..so bad that I'm…

absolutely appauling..so bad that I'm left crying....told 6 to 8 weeks for installation ..3 months later they started the work...BUT wrong back door and no glass for the door. I've made many phone calls chasing them up and I feel that I've had to be project manager. All the windows need to be sealed and the brick work around one window needs to be rendered where they have pulled the old window out. I phoned again today asking for the windows to be sealed whilst waiting for the correct door to arrive. They said it will be done when the door is fitted. So for over a week I'm still left with no sealed windows. DO NOT ...DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY ...THE STRESS AND TEARS ARE NOT WORTH IT.

Do not use

Do not use - I ordered some glass and arranged for them to measure up for new windows at the same time as delivering the glass - the glass was incorrect - the guys that delivered it said they get it wrong all the time, they said they are always having to go back and correct errors - anyway, they did not apologise - called me three days later, blamed me and wanted to charge another 600 for the replacement glass - I the spoke to the MD Lee who said, this isn’t their main line of work, it’s just side-line - offered no solution at all - not even an apology - when I told him about his staff comments and that given my experience all my new stuff I will go elsewhere - he just said he can understand that - so all in all if the MD don’t care, what chance have you got? I suggest you go to a professional firm

Terrible sales service - failed to meet dates

We had a new side door, window and sliding door fitted. The installers were very good and the products as expected, but the whole experience was soured by a severe slippage in the installation dates.

On discussing and placing the order, we were promised 4-5 weeks; we took that to mean 5 weeks anyway. However, almost as soon as the deposit was paid the installation date slipped to 6 weeks. To make matters worse, the sliding door was then apparently damaged and ended up being delayed another week. So, a '4-5 week' promise actually took 7 weeks.

No amount of discussion or calls from my builders could speed this up, and were met with Terms And Conditions being quoted to us. The builders have resolved to not use them again, and sadly I can't recommend them, which is a shame as I love to support local businesses.

Additional info 1: The incorrect handles were supplied, even though I had explicitly and repeatedly stated my requirement. This was promptly corrected by the installer though.

Additional info 2: The sliding door fitted has already got a rubber seal peeling away at the top and bottom...

Additional info 3: I also left a review with CheckATrade, Shaws responded that weather had delayed things in the August; they finished the install in May... Rather than apologising, they chose to lie. That fact was also logged with CheckATrade who stated that they would bring it up at Shaws renewal (whether they did or not is irrelevant now).

Scratched and marked Windows.

I used Shaws a few years ago without any problems. Sadly this time things have declined. I ordered 4 sets of windows to be replaced. Four of the new panes they installed were scratched or had permanent marks and had to be replaced. On their second visit, several of the replaced panes still had scratches / marks on them. I asked Shaws to thoroughly check the new replacement panes before they left their premises for the third time. Again one of the replacement panes was still marked. It took 4 visits from Shaws to install a new set of unmarked unscratched windows. Shaws tried to hide behind the ‘Visual Quality Standard’ guide of what is acceptable but some of these marks were clearly visible from over 4 metres away which was clearly unacceptable. They even told me to go directly to the manufacturer of the panes if I wasn’t happy. Even two of their installers agreed with me that the panes were not acceptable. To be fair to Shaws, they did eventually replace the defective panes but this took a lot of time, effort and 3 extra visits. All they gave me in compensation was a £20 gift token. I won’t be using Shaws again.

I wouldn't trust them

I have found in my recent experience their customer service has been extremely poor. The post sales administration team I found to be quite rude and unhelpful and the quality of their installations is questionable. I had them install a set of doors which I was originally happy with but subsequent repairs on those doors and the manner in which the Shaws administration team have treated me has left me very distrusting of the business. I found independent handy men much cheaper, better quality and far more honest. I have attempted to send my feedback direct to Shaws management who have not even bothered to respond to me. My advice would be to find an independent builder with good online feedback or recommended on local sites and avoid this business.
