Deteriorating service over recent times.
We've used Selco (mainly the Sidcup and Orpington branches) for many years- there used to be a nice young chap called Bradley who really did look after us for years.
However, this year we've not had a good experience at all. Recently, on a Saturday, we had a 9AM-11AM delivery that arrived 1 hour earlier than booked. Another pre-planned delivery for electrical items was being dealt with at the time (8 AM) and this chap had arrived right on time. The Selco driver got in to a huff that we were attending to the other chap for unloading,and left all the heavy materials, timber, pipes, boards etc ON THE GRASS VERGE of our front garden, literally on the road, and pushed off. We had to pay the builders next door to move all of this stuff in to our garage. Utterly unacceptable behaviour, Selco. We called the Selco team (Orpington branch) but they did not seem to care.
After nearly 15 years with Selco we're voting with our feet and going elsewhere. I would suggest avoiding the Orpington branch, if you have a choice. But please note- this is just one family's experience.

The Oprington store's Deputy manager has called me and had a comprehensive chat. He has investigated the matter and apologised. It is only fair that we now give them another chance and take it from there.

The most amazing and helpful staff in the entire building industry Selco Hanworth , from Store Manager Jamie to Leeane , Casey and in fact entire customer service , thats the dream team any store could have, thank you all.

Bill Kingston served me today at Selco’s and went above and beyond round round and found me all of the stuff I needed as I was not familiar with the store supreme working through all the prices and replacing stuff

Placed an order with Selco @ Hartcliffe Way Bristol on August 20th requested a friday delivery which contacted the store to try and process delivery was told unable too as fully booked, asked for saturday delivery was told fully booked, the next delivery that was available was today monday 20th, checked order status and says 'shipped' @ 7:26am.

Had a call 08:43am... to tell me there out of stock and unable to deliver today?!

6 tonnes of MOT Type 1!

This not only has been a total failure but also a high cost as i've now had to pay my builders a day pay and send them home as materials won't be delivered today!!

This selco branch is nothing more than a total waste of time! Have reported to head office as this isn't the first time! but i can assure you it will
be my last time i order again from selco!

Tried to buy timber but they won't cut it - offered a saw to a disabled person. So I can saw a straight bit of wood but you can't? Thanks for nothing.

Croydon Branch, Went to return a door today. Natalie provided excellent customer service. She provided cling film for wrapping and process refund very quickly. Keep up good work.

I purchased 5 pallets of slabs from Selco on 21 July, delivered on 28 July and ended up using 4 pallets. The order was marked as “non‑returnable”, but the goods are standard, resaleable slabs — unopened, unused, and in perfect condition. Despite this, Selco refused any form of support: no supplier uplift, no discretionary return, no partial refund, and no restocking option.

For a national builders’ merchant, this level of inflexibility is surprising. Other merchants routinely offer supplier returns for unused pallets, especially when customers are regular buyers. I’m now left with £600+ of unused materials and zero assistance.

This experience has made me reconsider using Selco for future projects. A more customer‑focused approach would go a long way.

Selcos Reading ordered two jumbo bags limestone 20mm. Good value. Delivery instructions; one bag front drive 2nd bag rear drive. Delivered on time and as instructed

Shocking website cant order from local store ..never met such a shambles - from log in to ordering - store says in stock deliver 2 days , website out of stock and doesnt list local store. So many builders merchants in Chelmsford and spending 2K but not here - need to sort their act out ..oh and their website...AVOID

I’m buying building materials from 8 years never had any problems prices are competitive with other builders and timed delivery, lorries with cranes to reach at nearest place near site. Staff is always helpful and friendly

As a new customer with very little DIY knowledge or experience I visited the store twice in two days and on both occasions the staff that served me could not have been more helpful to assist me in finding the correct items I needed. The order was delivered the next morning in perfect condition with all items that were expected. The delivery driver gave notice of arrival via text and was very careful and helpful with delivering the items where required. Would definitely reccomend.

Absolutely proper first class service from star to finish….
Walked in got a lovely warm welcome from a lady named Lorraine (Lolly)
Nothing was to much trouble and so so very helpful right through to completing my order
I have ordered on line before but got to say you just can’t beat face to face good old fashioned service
And the delivery driver also was so very helpful on delivery

I justed wanted to say that the Catford brance Selco went above and beyond to help me secure my order on the day I really needed it. Even though the items were not in there store. Elliot rang around to get them from another store and and made sure the delivery would get to me in time. Thank you Catford Selco and their top employer Elliot

Selco are sos so helpful . I went to their Isleworth store for people’s and ballast .
As I cannot lift due to disability , the agent called Josh Alex to come and help
Me . He was brilliant , courteous, and kind .
He even put the goods in my car . Absolutely marvellous .

I had a small problem with bags of Cotswold Stone. The 2nd bag was contaminated with tarmac. I had a little grumble and Eileen organised a replacement second bag. Very well handled.
