I played this game
I played this game for many years and quit in 2007/2008. Now I remembered why I quit: Because Jagex bans people for no reason, they don't know the difference between bots and people. And they don't care and never will care. RuneScape used to be good until 2007/2008.
Trashbag company
Wasted my time with a garbage cheat detection system. Was accused of botting as I was myself clicking on mining nodes watch an episode of The Last of Us. Most unworthy company of peoples precious time and no one should put a cent into this game.
Do not
Jagex cannot keep their servers online. They still act like they're only three dudes in the UK despite raking in millions from their userbase for two decades. Unacceptable, punishing, pointless, cookie clicker game.
Avoid At All Costs (or it will cost you)
Stay as far away from this game as you can. Jagex has left it for dead, and there is nothing good left here. There is only risk for yourself and your PC. Best case scenario, you play for a few months or even years before some hacker steals everything you have and locks out your account. Worst case scenario, they go even further, and they attempt to hack into your PC, bank account, etc. Save yourself the trauma, heartache and financial loss. Close this tab now, and don’t come back.
I played Runescape for almost 20 years, from 2003 to 2022, so it is extremely depressing that, after all of this time, this is the review I must leave of the game. This game was a huge part of my childhood, and I have so many fond memories of it, from RS1 to RS3. I was one of the first players, and now I think I have been one of the last, as well.
This game is overrun with hackers, criminals and malicious actors. After trying to update my security settings, reaching out to Jagex, and doing everything I could to add more security to my account, I was unable to even get a single response from the Jagex team, or to change any of my settings. Ultimately (and as a direct consequence of Jagex’s failure and complete abandonment of the game despite consistent warnings) my account—like so many others—was hacked, and I lost everything. I estimate the value of lost items, time, and membership fees in total excess of $100,000.00 USD.
When I raised this issue with Jagex again, instead of fixing anything, they actually locked me out of my account. So now I not only lost all of my things, but I’ve also lost the account itself—with max levels, thousands of hours of gameplay, etc. Jagex is a malicious company. You are nothing to them but a bag of money, a lifeless resource to be extracted.
Unfortunately, my situation is not unique. Jagex has abandoned Runescape, and it breaks my heart to tell you this. Virtually every player you’ll meet in-game (if there is any actual player left) has a similar story. This game is a scam and a huge security liability for yourself, your personal data, and your PC. You will receive no support from the Jagex team. You will never even get a reply, even if you somehow manage to find a stray email address to which to send your concerns (as I did—and it’s worth noting that Jagex makes itself deliberately unreachable because they know of these issues and simply don’t care to fix them. You will never get to speak with a human, from start to finish.)
If this is how they treat players like me—loyal and lifelong players who have supported the game through two decades of our lives and with thousands and thousands of our dollars—just try to imagine how they’ll treat you or any other new player.
Avoid this game at all costs. If you don’t, it literally will cost you, and you will regret it.
One of worst games ever
Super great idea but realization is a disaster. Have played this game since 2009. Even though it was always going downhill I can safely say that right now it is complete sh!t fest.
Game is almost unenjoyable. Complete disaster of coding. Controls are clunky and unresponsive, movement is click and tile based which makes it feel like cancer when you do combat stuff. In fact all aspects of this game is more or less click and go.
Game engine is a complete disaster as well written on custom 20 years old java script and still in 2022 running on 4 ticks although Jagex tried to implement action based combat that would be interesting but the results is just complete cancer what you can expect is that you will die because of some bug or unresponsive game.
Not to forget to mention bugs and glitches. This game is plagued with glitches. Even glitches are glitched. It feels like Runescape is in some sort of beta phase or even earlier development stage. But no it is fully complete disaster of a game.
Also it is super grindy. Everything is based on grinding.
In other words horrible game, horrible developer. Complete fail!
Avoid if you can. Try to find another source of dopamine. This garbage will make you ill.

Jagex bans users for no reason
A toxic game and gaming community, always uncritically defending Jagex. Jagex bans users for no apparent reason and without evidence, both in new and oldschool RuneScape. They simply treat players like criminals, stealing money and time from innocent unsuspecting players. Jagex are happy when they see unhappy people, and the dodgy Chinese investors definitely made the situation even worse.
You got banned anyway.
A really nice game
A really nice game. I used to play it when I was little, and sometimes login these days as well. I'd only wish they'd add a little more features to the free to play version. There are many players like me that only log in occasionally, so buying a subscription does not make sense.
runescape 3 use to be a really good…
runescape 3 use to be a really good game and still is in alot of ways, however micro transactions are getting stupid, with the start of the new world not only must you make a new account for it you also need a membership, that doesn't sound too bad you might think, it gets worse bonds are also available for new world accounts though out the event so there is no fair game play for new worlds so unless you have deep pockets for bonds the new game mode is garbage for the average player who can only afford the membership, the game is taking a turn to being one of those typical app store games that only the wealthy can afford to play, R.I.P to caring about its players, it's all about taking your money with jagex, instead of working on increasing its player base, sad times for an awesome game...
Please do something about the bots
I have been a lifelong player and subscriber to Runescape. But now I feel the game is dying. Most of the playerbase are botting. Bots in Grand Exchange spamming gold selling services. I don't feel like I'm playing an online game anymore. I'm considering stopping playing the game.
Jagex are worse than heroine dealers.
Jagex are worse than heroine dealers.
Their new Chinese owners must know exactly how to tap into that opium feinding mentality. Stale, outdated, with no real direction aside from avidly stealing from their players. These people are bums to the degree that gives homeless people a bad name; they sit on their ugly british asses and improve little to nothing in regards to basic quality. Predatory in every sense of the word. Literal hundreds of hours with zero guarantee of items grinded towards (like giving someone heroine like false hope). These people are criminals literally stealing time and money. Spend thousands of irl dollars in their game only to have them false ban on zero credibility. I honestly don't know how players havent ripped these people out of their homes and offices into the streets to show them how the real world treats criminals and thieves... Something about Jagex wreaks, would not suprise me in the slightest if their predatory marketing attitude aimed towards children bled into their real lives, these people are scum and there is not one redeeming factor that would suggest otherwise. No wonder their staff make less than 25k annually, all the rest of our cash is funneled into their hush funds, legal fees, and plane trips to Jeff Epstein Island. Will make a bet that a headline will surface in regards to this information, these crooks deserve swift and unwavering justice served on a cold platter.

Well where do i start been a member of RS on and off since 2002 spent a lot of money in this time on membership, Few months ago these jokers banned me for Real world item trading when someone in my clan split loot on a boss loot was 750m each seems anything high value their crappy systems detect it and they point the finger at a Real world item trading.
Creosus boss is a laugh getting level 3 ironmen there with a bad attitude messing it up for everyone else you lose your crap and get muted for 3 days who ever heard of a level 3 earning a 1.2b drop by doing f all.
Jagex has lastly gone down the route of selling bonds, treasure hunter keys and rune coins this is a pathetic way of earning money all this does is encourage gambling and doesnt set good examples to your younger players.
Dead content is released the same recycled crap for example spring event with the butterfly's, and the beach crap is this what people now pay an increased membership for ?
One day i went to remove the bolts out of my pernix quiver and an in game bug destroyed it in the process submitted a bug report to jagex and basically got told im not getting it back.
Im slowly getting fed up now so will wait until my membership expires and then call it a day with these muppets all jagex mods now look like 18 year old virgin nerds.
These guys are nothing but scum
Deleted my Account and Kept my money to boot
I was logged into Old School Runescape with my Runescape (RS3) account credentials and was accused of macroing. I logged into Old-School Runescape (OSRS,) and the screen froze up in the tutorial/newbie part of the game. I quit playing for the day but when I tried to log in a few days later I was unable to log into the game because my account had been banned. I lost an account that I had for over 5 years and had logged a few hundred hours on. I had two weeks of paid membership on my account and they never gave me a refund or anything.
I am a Linux user, the operating system for my computer is not Windows or MacOS it is Linux. I used the official software for Runescape provided in the SnapStore. I don't know what happened whether I was hacked or the software I was using is buggy, or if it was something else.
What really bothers me is that the message I received from Jagex could have been pre-written and in it they tell you that can't appeal the ban. Jagex, the parent company of RS3 and OSRS judge you guilty and you have no recourse. They deleted my account when I still had a few weeks left of paid membership and said their moderators had investigated and found me guilty, without any proof. They tell you they will ignore any request you make on social media, or in any forums, etc.
I reported bots and ignored them as well and I was blamed for cheating. You can't win with some people, but if you pay Jagex, the

This company has legit nonexistent customer support.
I changed my name from my original username that I've had for 15 years for a joke with some friends, only to find it's blocked by the name filter while attempting to change it back? Are you serious??
I've spent days trying to get support going through their intentionally convoluted support page on their website, or their twitter only to find that support is either nonexistent or you get a canned reply from some underpaid intern. Meanwhile the most vile and inappropriate names get through the filter while we can't have the word "phoenix" because it contains "hoe".
you guys are banning accounts for no reason
bro, i understand i bought gold one time 7 years ago, but for the love of Ducking christ stop banning my new accounts that have not bought gold! i learned my lesson, let me play the Ducking game!!
Non-existant customer support and Mod power abuse
Jagex has awful customer support, and I cancelled my subscription because of it. They perm muted my account a few years ago and they still didn't tell me what I did wrong to deserve a permanent mute, perhaps because I actually didn't, and I have proof of it.
Apparently it's supposed to say why in the "Account History" page, but all it says is "Manual Permanent Mute". I clicked on it to "review the evidence", all it says is "We have sent you an inbox message to your message centre explaining this permanent mute.". I checked the message center, but no message about my mute is there, nor in my email.
They denied my appeal, still didn't tell me why, and I couldn't even email them to dispute it if they did tell me why because they don't let people email them UNLESS there's a payment problem. Goes to show where their priorities are.
If you go on reddit on 2007scape and look up 'perm muted for this', there's a comment by ModMatK saying they're "tempted to perm mute his account anyway" for something that happened on reddit and in-game what is an at most pretty minor offence. A clear example that power abuse most definitely happens behind the scenes.
On Glassdoor, the player support salary is around 20,000 euros annually, clearly they don't work here for the money. If Jagex wasn't so cheap, they could hire a better CS team.

Would strongly advise playing a different game until Jagex improve their customer service.
You can spend years developing your account to have it banned for absolutely no reason and with no evidence (they say to avoid giving away their detection methods). If a JMod wakes up on the wrong side of the bed, you could be a gonner.
Then there is absolutely no appeal process for certain types of bans and you'll be treated like a criminal by Jagex and the community on social media if you try to bring attention to it.
