What a pleasure to receive great service from a company who know their products inside out. I've needed to contact the company on a number of occasions due to my oldish & temperamental cd/radio. I absolutely love the mellow sound & this great looking piece of 'furniture' & have had nothing but helpful advice from this company's knowledgeable staff. I really rate the repair service which is an extremely straightforward process. Special shout out to Terry too - Keep up the great work all at Ruark!
A Bittersweet Experience
After spending many weeks researching various options, I ordered a R410 Integrated Music System directly from Ruark a month ago.
It arrived and I was immediately impressed by the build quality. Then I switched it on and played the first track I'd specifically chosen to test the device. To say I was impressed would be an understatement - I was absolutely delighted with my purchase.
However, a few days later I turned the unit on and no matter what input I selected, the only sound to come out of the speakers was a constant whirring noise. I phoned Ruark and they suggested a factory re-set. This wasn't ideal as I'd spent a few hours carefully collating and storing dozens of internet and DAB stations in the memory.
I re-set the unit, going through the set-up process again and, for at least twenty-four hours, it worked perfectly... until the same issue cropped up.
Ruark arranged for the unit to be collected and a new one delivered, and that's where cracks started to appear in the customer service. I had to chase them up to get confirmation of a delivery time, and in that communication, I received a rather curt reply, like I was an inconvenience.
The new unit arrived and I went through the set-up process for a third time. Once I was able to hear the unit again, that went some way to dampening the slightly negative experience I'd had.
Twenty-four hours later, the unit suffered the same fault as the previous one.
By this point, I'd lost all confidence in both the product and Ruark. Don't get me wrong - Ruark did what they had to legally do, but no more. There was never any sense of apology or effort to address the inconvenience I suffered through no fault of my own. I'm self-employed and I reckon I've lost 5-6 hours of my time/income packing and unpacking units, not to mention the troubleshooting and set-up.
What is frustrating is that I'm fairly sure that if Ruark had actually tried to win my confidence back, they'd have had a customer for life. However, I just got the feeling that they didn't much care.
In conclusion, when the unit worked, it was a five-star product. However, the sense of disappointment in both the reliability and Ruark's attitude towards customer service (and retention) is closer to two stars.
That's a shame.

The staff at Ruark were excellent & went beyond what was necessary to assist. My radio developed a fault after the 3 year warranty had expired but Ruark obligingly repaired it for free & sent it back by courier a week later. Now I have a radio that works perfectly & is like new. I like Ruark products as they have a quality in both their build & sound. Overall a stress free & pleasant experience.

Update from my previous review. I was offered a 10% compensation discount from Ruark on a new replacement for the poor quality unit that I originally purchased. I can get 10% off from some suppliers anyway.
The Chinese made Ruark products are over priced in the first place and I ended up spending a bit more and purchased a Japanese brand (not made in China.) Will never buy Ruark again. BTW my faulty Ruark make a great door stop!! Following on from Ruark's reply of 11/10/2024 they forgot to mention that they have already repaired the CD mechanism at great cost to me! So the CD mechanism is not 10 years old! I have made enquiries about fixing the fault from third party repairers and they will not touch Ruark products plus even if they did obtaining parts for this brand even if only a few years old is nigh on impossible.
In conclusion yes Ruark is a nice product with great sound when NEW but they are not built to last (as confirmed by other reviewers. I have other much cheaper CD players that are still going strong and are older than my Ruark. I have already explained why I didn't take you offer up of 10 percent on a new unit. Plus on an email you did offer to have a look at the unit again but you said parts are probably unobtainable. If you had repaired it again (like the last repair) I doubt whether the repair would last that long. Anyway as I said before I have purchased a non Chinese made product this time.

Remote control packed up. Answer - use it manually we noblonger service this equipment. Why buy equipment if it cannot be serviced after only 6 years or so. I won't touch anything of their again.

Ruark R2 & R5 poor quality displays/
I am fan of Ruark products, Have R2 Mk3 & mk4 R5, MRX R1S and R410 products.
Beside the fact that the latest product are no longer multiroom via undok, I met the same problem with the displays of the R5 and R2 mk2, after 2 years, they became less brighter, and with screen burnin making the menus totally illegible. For the price of the units it's not acceptable. I understand why the new products use a different display.
Superb service from terry
Shout out to Terry I had purchased the R410 a simply astonishing piece of Kit and looks the business as well and I had some issues with the Turntable Noise, The questions I ask are always replied to within minutes and Terry even called and suggested I grounded the system, this seemed to work and reduced the horrible noise I had. Ruark are a first-rate company that can back up their excellent products with first class after sales service, their excellent website is updated regularly as well

Major problems with connecting remote speakers
I have the R5 with two remote MRx speakers. The sound, when all three components work, is wonderful. But I have had persistent problems with one or more parts of the system dropping out and these days I have to reboot everything every single time. Customer Service referred me only to the clunky and ineffective UNDOK app and have not been able to fix the problem.

A shout out for Terry at Ruark Customer…
A shout out for Terry at Ruark Customer Services. We have had an R1 for many years and have been delighted with it.
In December the volume dial gave up. I sent an on-line enquiry to see if I could purchase a replacement part. Terry replied between Xmas and New Year and in January a new dial arrived at no cost.
Super pleased at the support and would buy again.
POOR HiFi
I have the R5 plus the two extra Rx speakers .The unit was very hard to set up .
I have also tried connecting it to the tv with an optic cable to have the tv going through the unit . There is an unacceptable delay on the sound . when i phoned customer service i was told the unit does not operate as a sound box for the tv , What is the point of having an optical lead to connect to a tv if you cannot use it . I wish i had never purchased this unit . I have had this unit for approx 1 year and totally regret buying this RUBBISH

Ruark really do have a beautiful bass sound
I bought an R3 Music system 8 years ago which is linked up to my television, and my Denon turntable. It regularly plays the radio, CDs and all of the above with a deep rich beautiful sound.
In that time there was a small fault with the digital display 2 years ago, which was replaced quickly and now works perfectly. Last week the remote stopped working with a new battery, again this was replaced quickly and without issue.
My kitchen radio is a Ruark R1, which has so much power and sound quality for a little box. James

Ive been a customer of Ruark for over 10 years and had faultless service from 3 different products. I have also had to call on their customer service department and each time they have responded brilliantly (even over the weekend) replacing aged worn parts FOC. They have been very helpful and professional in support of great products.
Poor service.
Poor service on my first R5 which had constant problems and was replaced without fuss from the retailer. The second unit had the same issues. Ruark’s service department said they were unaware of any problems. I took the faulty unit back to the retailer and received a full refund with an apology.
Imagine my reaction when the unit was discontinued a few weeks later!
It was a shame as the sound was great but just the faults kept occurring, however I heard the R3S later in the same retailer and AGAIN liked the sound for the value and the use I was going to put it to.
So far it has dumped all my saved radio stations. I was told by the Ruark service dept to pull out the power supply from the back to re boot it….
I’m on to my fourth reboot as the CD does not show the track titles the same every time.
Great sound, just a nagging worry in the back of my mind….

"I recently received the new RS1 Subwoofer and set it up. The sound quality is impressive. However, there is a significant issue with the aesthetics. The RS1 features Rich Walnut top and bottom panels, which do not match the MR1 Bluetooth Speaker System I've owned for some time. I purchased the RS1 to complement the MR1, and while it performs well in terms of audio, it's a visual mismatch. The shade of the RS1 is a much darker and somber brown compared to my MR1, creating a jarring contrast. This could be a problem if the subwoofer is placed in a visible location. I consider this a quality control problem, and I'm really disappointed."
Thanks for the reply but, I was so disappointed I either returned or sold, on EBay, any Ruark Audio equipment I had. I personally, will never again entertain any further equipment from Ruark Audio.

R5 looks the part / worth the price.
We have had our R5 for over three years now and in that time it has worked like a dream, great sound for a one box style HiFi, we wanted something non plastic or black looking and have the Walnut one, it still looks like brand new, to be honest we are old school and only really use the CD which suits us, it looks super in our house as we have a lot of real wood around, [ floors etc ], very pleased with it 5 Stars
