Extremely disappointed with RBC. I renewed my mortgage online expecting the same process as my last renewal, where the new rate didn’t take effect until the maturity date. I didn’t read every page of... Zobacz więcej

A very poor experience - I see I am not alone!
Coming here and seeing all these bad reviews makes me feel better! Unfortunately RBC took over HSBC's business in Canada. HSBC were friendly and good. RBC has been, well to put it simply, ridiculous. I went to all the trouble of setting up with them. I got the online banking going, etc. I could have simply jumped ship right from the start, but I took my time to work with them. They wrote to us a little while after the start and told us they were extending the "no fee" period. Well that was nice but HSBC did not have any fees, so perhaps it seemed a little ominous. Then a few months ago (about a year and a half after the takeover) they wrote to us saying they were keeping our accounts no fee indefinitely. Ok, that's good. Then they sent me an email two weeks ago saying they had decided to close my account (with some vague reference to "a review" they had conducted of their products and services - but not providing any concrete explanation at all). They then demanded that I remove my money before some date in 2022 (yep, three years ago). Then they sent a "recall" email - which certainly made them look very professional – loads of sarcasm intended there). Then they sent another "ACTION REQUIRED" email demanding that I remove my money by a date in December - again without any substantial explanation. Finally, today, I received a letter, which demands I remove my money by another date in another month. All I can say is that I will be only too happy to take all my business over to Scotia - which has served me faithfully since 1997. I will have nothing further to do with RBC, and would suggest others think carefully before having anything to do with this, in my estimation, dysfunctional bank.

It’s just terrible… They kept withdrawing $25 every three months as a fee for holding my stocks, even though I only had about $300 after $4000 of me initial buy-in of the stocks, worth with them. Eventually, this put my account into a negative balance, and then they sold all my stocks because of it.”

#RBC / #ROYAL BANK OF CANADA
I went into the #RBC / #ROYAL BANK OF CANADA branch at the Beaconsfield Shopping Center and asked to exchange $30.00 of change ($1.00 & $2.00 coins) for bills.
There were 4 people in line so it took about 10 minutes to finally meet a teller. She refused to do the transaction because I didn’t have a Royal Bank card! REALLY!!
BEWARE OF @RBC / @ROYAL BANK. In symphony if memory serves me this is the RBC branch that was in the news several years ago.
I had a very negative experience with…
I had a very negative experience with phone banking, as the representatives were quite rude and asked inappropriate security questions, such as my age instead of my date of birth. Furthermore, it appears that many of the staff are working from home rather than in the office. They do not treat customers with the respect they deserve; instead, they seem to profit from our funds while treating us poorly. Consequently, I have decided to close all my accounts with RBC and maintain my relationship with TD Bank.
I wish I could give RBC a zero star…
I wish I could give RBC a zero star review!
They told me they would cash a check at once if I don’t deposit it with ATM and bring it directly to the bank clerk. I did but in my surprise they said it would take about 5 DAYS!
They are either idiot or liar. They wasted people’s time and energy. By the way, they are so slow as well.

If I could give negative stars I would
If I could give negative stars I would. Horrible customer service. Waited on hold for +3 hours got disconnected and had to sit on hold again for another 3 hours just to be told to go into a branch. Visit the branch and it took 2 hours to confirm the fraudulent charges on my card and be told I will be issued a new card. 6 weeks later and I still haven’t received my new card. Brutal!
Called into RBC insurance to update the banking information and they did not update the information. The person we dealt with on the phone for that (which also was an hour on hold) basically said there is nothing they can do. Horrible experience and we will be moving all our products away from RBC
Go with an online bank... WealthSimple
Amazon charged my account with something I didn't purchase. Talked with Amazon - they said talk to RBC.
Spent three hours chasing people by phone at RBC and just when you think you were getting somewhere they transfer you to another electronic directory hell. One person actually transferred me knowing I had just been there because she just didn't want to deal with it. We desperately need banking competition in Canada - Big Five banks don't give a crap nor does Amazon for that matter. Now my account is out $250 and how do I get it back? They know you have no real reasonable way to. Go to a lawyer or consumer group - great spend more time and money - they know you won't.
Dumpster Fire
RBC has turned into an inept and dishonest financial institution. After over 30 years, I've decided to move on. Multiple issues with their online banking platform, understaffed branches, employees without any meaningful training, a serious privacy breach, account irregularities, and on and on and on. Unfortunately, they have had no meaningful oversight by the Federal Government and do as they please, with total disregard for their customers. A Company destroyed by the wanton and unrestrained greed of their CEO and his inept cohorts.
RBC CARD FIASCO
My mother, who has been with the bank 40 years, was given a new convenience card that kept malfunctioning on purchases, tapping and inserting. This was happening while traveling , and occurred at two hotels. We went to the local rbc who said they had fixed the issue, but no, they didn't. It happened again at grocery stores, and another meeting transpired. Rbc at yonge and blood did nothing to help and arranged for another meeting, which transpired a few days later. My mother was told it was fixed , again. It of course, was not. They refused to issue a replacement card. The problem continued and my mother had another meeting. They still refused to issue a new card. The problem continues.
I Regret Ever Choosing RBC
I Regret Ever Choosing RBC — Here’s Why.
I proactively visited an RBC branch in early June to renew my credit card — a full month before expiry. I booked an appointment, spent over an hour, and was told everything was handled.
Today is June 25 — my card expires in 2 days. I still haven’t received anything.
All I’ve been told is that “it was sent on June 5.” No tracking. No confirmation. No notification of any kind. If delivery failed — why wasn’t I informed?
This is not just poor service — it’s operational negligence.
Ironically, I still receive constant marketing spam from RBC encouraging me to open new accounts. Yet they can’t fulfill a basic renewal process?
I expect RBC to:
• Provide my card immediately via branch or in-person pickup
• Compensate for wasted time, stress, and inconvenience
If this is what “Canada’s top bank” offers, it’s a serious red flag.
Succursale du boul. Cousineau a Saint-Hubert !
Attente interminable !
Toujours juste 2 caissiers même si il y a une longue file d'attente.
C'est pareil a toute les semaines.
Les caissiers manque de motivation c'est l'enfer .
Jamais vu un service aussi médiocre.
Back-dating payment due dates
RBC in their mobile app consistently showed my VISA credit card's payment due date as of June 2, 2025.
To my surprise on June 9 I saw the interest transaction.
For any inquiries that I made I received only one answer: Our PDF statement says you had May 28th as the payment due date, hence you have a late payment.
(Where I paid around 30-31st.)
RBC at their branch at Lake Shore & Park Lawn verbally acknowledged that they can "adjust the due date" based on when your payment was made O_O.
I escalated this up to their Client Care department and it's been a week and I still cannot get any competent answer.
RBC Manipulates Customers
I was an HSBC customer when RBC bought out that bank. I was automatically switched to Royal Bank accounts, credit card, the works.
I didn't want to bank with RBC, and I called and told them to close all of my accounts. They told me to go to my branch. I told them I have Parkinson's Disease and they begrudgingly said they'd close my accounts. But I still get phone messages telling me to login and check my account(s). These people couldn't manage a piss up in a brewery.
This weekend, I gave my nephew a $12,000 cheque to pay of his loan, and I wrote a cheque but used the wrong chequebook and the cheque was refused. Okay, I made that mistake, I know its my fault, and he contacted the bank and explained this to them and gave them a bank draft to cover the amount. RBC charged him 27 dollars. Okay. A bit steep but I made the mistake so I paid that back to him. He got paid the day after he deposited the cheque I gave him and the next day, Royal Bank completely froze his account. No warning and they won't do anything to help him. He even asked how much the penalty is to close the account (because they gave him an Apple Watch to sign up) and they refused to discuss it with him until the draft I gave him clears.
What a bunch of idiots. No wonder they have to give away free Apple products to get you to open an account with them. Nobody would if they didn't get that, and it locks you in for over a year so you can't leave.
DON'T SIGN UP WITH ROYAL BANK. Please learn from my mistakes
Incompetence and Arrogance: RBC’s Shocking Customer Abuse…
My experience with RBC was a nightmare that dragged on for over a year, causing ongoing stress for me and my family. This bank operates with shocking incompetence, cruelty, and a complete abuse of power against its customers. Their staff are rude, untrained, and utterly incapable of handling even basic tasks with professionalism or care.
I was treated with contempt, ignored, and forced to fight just to close my own account something that should take minutes, not a year of suffering. RBC doesn’t just lack customer service it’s a place where deliberate mistreatment and institutional arrogance are the norm. Disgraceful.
Outstanding Service from RBC: Recovered $11,650 Scammed on VRBO!
I recently endured a nightmare scenario trying to rent a condo in Ft. Lauderdale through VRBO. I paid the host $11,650 USD via the VRBO website, only to discover the host was a complete scam artist who vanished with my money. Despite paying through VRBO's platform and immediately reporting the fraud, VRBO offered virtually no help or recourse. I felt helpless and devastated, facing a massive financial loss.
In desperation, I contacted RBC and filed a dispute for the transaction, explaining the entire fraudulent situation. The process was straightforward, and the RBC representative handling my case was empathetic and professional. They clearly understood the gravity of the situation.
RBC VISA DISPUTE TEAM CAME THROUGH! After a thorough investigation, RBC successfully recovered and refunded the entire $11,650 USD to my account. RBC's Visa dispute process worked flawlessly where the merchant platform (VRBO) completely failed. This highlights the critical importance of using a credit card with strong fraud protection for large purchases.
It's shocking that VRBO, the platform facilitating the payment and hosting the fraudulent listing, provided no meaningful assistance. Their lack of action forced me to rely solely on my bank's protections. Thankfully, RBC was up to the task.
It's worst experience with a bank ever
It's worst experience with a bank ever, can not even make a simple payment, can not even get to customer service, I was over 20 years, would defiantly transferring my account to other bank.
Bad Customer Service
This morning around 9:00 my wife called RBC Visa trying to report 3 disputed transactions. The total amount is only $63($21 x 3). Instead of trying to find out what happened, the customer service lady asked too many security questions including the time she last used her VISA and her debit card number. During the whole process the customer service lady was impatient and rude and threatened at least 4 times to disconnect the call. At the end the customer service lady tilde my wife that she would refer the case to the so called Fraud Department. My wife felt like she was treated like a criminal and is still upset.
