Car (a Toyota Agya) was knackered but really cheap to rent, and the pick-up service right in the airport was fairly painless. No security deposit either and no quibbles on returning the vehicle. Would definitely use them again.

I went with Pingouin because their rental price was less than half of a couple of international names like Sixt... and it was absolutely worth saving the money. The little Suzuki Celerio I rented was small and basic, but it was absolutely fine for what I needed. It's not like you're going to be doing huge mileages in Mauritius.
The only down side? The key fob on the car didn't work very well, so there was some inconvenience because the central locking was reliable. But again, this car cost me literally hundreds of pounds less than a big brand company, so that's a good trade-off imho.
The guys at Pingouin were very friendly and accommodating and pick-up and return were dead easy.
I almost didn't choose Pingouin because there are some negative ratings on here, but for me it worked out well.

Quality service, the team is flexible and adjusted to my flight delay by providing me the car later when i arrived in Mauritius. Whereas for the car itself i had no issue. It was clean, had spacious interior, apple carplay was setup, good aircon and fitted all my luggages. I highly recommend Pingouin Car Rental for a hassle-free journey in the beauty of Mauritius.

Antes da viagem fiz uma pesquisa de preços de alugueis de carros em Mauritius e esta empresa foi a mais barata. Reservei e paguei por um veiculo 4x4 tipo Toyota Hilux. A nota no Google estava boa. Uma semana antes de embarcar a Mauritius, recebi uma mensagem, onde diziam que o veiculo reservado havia se acidentado e que não estaria mais disponível para a minha reserva. Me deram a opção de um veiculo 7 lugares pelo mesmo valor, onde eu imaginava ser um SUV. Perguntei se caberiam 4 malas grandes, o que me foi confirmado. Quando chego para retirar o veiculo, o atendente chega com um veiculo pequeno, velho, batido faltando 2 calotas que mais parecia um taxi. Realmente 7 lugares, mas muito longe de ser um SUV que coubesse 4 malas. Recusei o veiculo, e o atendente só dizendo que tinha esse veiculo. Nao aceitei e ficamos discutindo, até que o atendente muito rude, foi buscar outro veiculo menos pior. Ficamos mais de 1 hora esperando embaixo de uma cobertura onde se guardava os carrinhos de carregar mala na chuva. O veiculo que ele trouxe também parecia um taxi, mas pelo menos não estava tão batido. O carro era muito fraco, não cabia as 4 malas grandes. Tivemos de colocar uma mala dentro da outra e nossos pertences soltos dentro do carro. O esguicho de limpar o parabrisa não funcionava, tinhamos que limpar com as mãos. Não recomendo a ninguém esta empresa e inclusive acho que muitas das avaliações no google sao falsas.

I highly recommend clients NOT to book cars with this company....their insurance company follow up are such a bull shit..... Jubilee Insurance company🤮🤮they provide expired fitness cars to clients....plse do not book with them if U cared

I had an awful experience with Pingiuin Car Rental in Mauritius and would strongly advise against using them. The car I rented was unsafe and kept drifting, making it dangerous to drive. I had to return it early for my own safety. Despite reaching out to them multiple times to address the issue, they completely ignored me and showed no respect for me as a customer. Avoid this company at all costs!

Après réservation en ligne 2 mois à l'avance pour un véhicule KIA SPORTAGE, soit le plus cher chez eux, la veille de la location nous recevons un mail de confirmation pour un KIA PICANTO, soit le plus petit qu'ils ont et surtout le moins cher !
Soit disant il n'y avait plus le modèle réservé...
Finalement par miracle apparait la voiture demandée, mais alors dans un état pitoyable, refus de notre part de rouler avec une épave... après un contact au téléphone très désagréable avec le responsable (à la limite insultant envers nous !), réapparait un nouveau véhicule... sans solution nous acceptons cette voiture... (elle aussi dans un très mauvais état!)
ATTENTION aussi au règlement sur place en MUR et non en Euros comme convenu... taux très à l'avantage du loueur... pratique honteuse et à la limite de l'arnaque !
CONSEIL, il y a plein de loueurs à l'aéroport, celui-ci est franchement à éviter !
Nous sommes très surpris par les avis sur leur site, comme beaucoup d'endroits à Maurice nous soupçonnons que les mauvais avis sont retirés !

Bonjour, attention aux petites arnaques PINGOUIN ! Tous les contrats sont en Euro, mais lorsqu’il s’agit de payer c’est en MUR avec un taux de change très défavorable…. Pire encore, lorsqu’on conteste, cela se transforme en frais de CB. Les réactions de PINGOUIN ne sont pas très aimables voire dédaigneuses….mais bizarrement lorsque vous versez l’acompte de réservation c’est bien en Euro qu’il est prélevé ! Sur aucun contrat il y a marqué qu’un montant en MUR, tout est en Euro…. Petite filouterie qui se révèle être une discrète escroqueriez au final !

2ème location faite avec Pingouin et je trouve le rapport qualité prix très bon.

En junio de este año reservamos un vehículo con esta empresa y tuvimos que abonar un adelanto de 122 euros por el alquiler de dicho vehículo y dos tarjetas sim para el móvil. El total del contrato (que puedo demostrar ya que lo tengo enviado el móvil) era de 473 euros. Llegó el viaje y el día de 22 de septiembre cuando llegamos a Isla Mauricio fuimos a recoger el vehículo en el aeropuerto y por un lado nos dicen que se han equivocado y que solo nos pueden vender una tarjeta sim y nos hacen abonar un total de 379 eur que sumandos a los 122 que habíamos pagado en junio al realizar la reserva, daba un total de 501 eur frente a los 473 eur que indicaba el contrato. Estábamos cansados y aunque me pareció raro porque pagamos en rupias y no estaba segura de lo que estaba ocurriendo, no dije nada, realmente me di cuenta al día siguiente una vez hubimos descansado. Además nos cobraron las dos tarjetas sim cuando simplemente nos vendieron una. Reclamé por email muchas veces el importe de dicha tarjeta y nadie contestó. Al ir a dejar el coche el última día me indicaron cuando lo reclamé que me harían una transferencia por el importe de dicha tarjeta sim una vez verificado que el coche se había entregado en perfecto estado. Mi sorpresa fue cuando al llegar a España me llega un correo de estos impresentables diciendo que a la entrega del vehículo me abonarían la tarjeta sim en metálico. Esta fue su respuesta ya que sabían que nosotros ya habíamos abandonado Mauricio. Total que nos robaron 28 eur que nos cobraron de más en el contrato y 15 euros de la tarjeta sim que nos cobraron y nunca nos entregaron. Cuidado son unos ladrones.

Just rented a car for the third time with Pinguion Car Rentals and the service has been amazing - as always! I‘ll definitely book again with u guys whenever I come back to Mauritius. The service and the cars are absolutely fantastic. We had a good experience with Souhaib who took great care of us.

Totally Unfair! We arrive in MRU 3 days later due to Dubai flood, even if we advise in time (a day before) of the changing in schedule, they charge us these days, telling they’ll be refund later. Refund that never arrive. Don’t trust them.

Been 7 days since their reply at bottom and more then a month. I have still not5 received my refund. I have given up hope on this money grabbing company. I would give 0 star if I could. Use this car rental firm if you want to give away your money. They do nothing but make excuses in order to avoid refunding your money.
