I didn't buy anything from this company before reading the review. Total scam. WARRANTY FRAUD

I am extremely disappointed with the way my warranty claim was handled.

I purchased a brand-new motherboard from MSY, and it never worked from the very first installation. The computer would not POST or boot at all. The motherboard was later tested in Australia, and MSY concluded that the CPU socket pins were physically damaged during installation, therefore refusing my warranty claim.

My concern is that the motherboard failed from day one and was never functional. Despite this, MSY relied solely on the presence of bent socket pins to deny any remedy, without providing evidence that the damage was not present before the product was supplied.

I have requested that my case be reviewed under the Australian Consumer Law, as consumer guarantees are separate from the manufacturer’s warranty. A product that never worked from the beginning should receive a fair and impartial assessment.

As a customer, I expected a more balanced investigation and a willingness to consider my rights under Australian consumer law rather than an automatic warranty rejection.

Unfortunately, based on my experience, I cannot recommend MSY’s after-sales service.

DO NOT TRUST THIS BUSINESS

DO NOT TRUST THIS BUSINESS. They will damage your return and blame you.
If I could give MSY / Umart zero stars, I would. Avoid this company at all costs unless you want your money stolen and your consumer rights completely ignored.

Here is how they operate:

Step 1: Sell faulty goods. I purchased a brand-new 8TB hard drive that was completely Dead on Arrival (DOA)—it wouldn't even spin up or draw power out of the box.

Step 2: Cover their tracks at intake. I promptly returned the faulty drive to their retail store. A technician physically inspected the drive on the counter and handed me a signed, legally binding Diagnostic Agreement explicitly stating "Physical Damage: no physical damage".

Step 3: Damage the item in their custody and blame the customer. A few days later, their story completely changed. They claimed a chipped connector was found, labelled it "user misuse," and used the damage they or their couriers caused to reject my warranty claim.

Step 4: Stonewall and ghost. When I repeatedly pointed out their own signed intake document proving the drive was physically perfect when I handed it over, they completely ignored it. Support staff explicitly promised in writing that my case was being "prioritized for an immediate review" by management. They completely ghosted me and never called.

Step 5: Demand more money. After weeks of zero manager contact, they slapped me with an automated email rejecting the claim. To top off the absolute audacity, they are now trying to force me to accept a broken, further damaged drive, or pay a postage invoice to have it shipped back to me.

They have completely illegal internal policies where they try to pass off their statutory consumer obligations onto external suppliers, forcing the customer to wait weeks just to be scammed. They do not honour Australian Consumer Law, they do not honour their own signed agreements, and their customer service is a black hole of automated evasion.

The matter has been formally escalated to Consumer Affairs for unconscionable conduct. Save yourself the massive headache, the stress, and the financial loss. Buy your computer parts literally anywhere else.

I had a highly frustrating and unresolved experience with MSY

I purchased two IronWolf 16TB hard drives in early March. One of the drives was dead on arrival and was returned to the store within hours. I was assured a replacement would be arranged and available the following week.

What followed was a series of conflicting and inaccurate updates. I was told the replacement was ready for collection, but upon arriving at the store, I was informed it had not arrived. I was then told it was being shipped from another location and would be available the next day. After confirming again, I made another trip, only to be told it was still unavailable and could take an additional week.

This pattern of misinformation resulted in multiple unnecessary store visits and a significant waste of time. The communication has been inconsistent, unreliable, and below reasonable expectations.

I then requested to cancel the replacement and receive a refund. However, the store did not provide a clear response. I raised a support ticket, which did not address my cancellation request and instead redirected me to an earlier ticket. I also contacted customer support multiple times and was told they are still waiting on the warranty department, despite the product being dead on arrival.

At this point, I have paid for two drives but have only received one working unit, with no clear resolution in sight.

This experience reflects a serious failure in communication, coordination, and basic customer service. I cannot recommend this store based on how this issue has been handled.

Do not buy from this company as warranty is non-existent

Do not buy from this company. Their warranty conditions are in complete contradiction to the Australian Consumer Law and are virtually non-existent. Their prices are competitive, but if something goes wrong, they stuff you around for months. I purchased a be quiet! 750W Dark Power 12 80+ Titanium Power Supply from MSY Computers on 16/02/2023 which has a 10 year warranty. In January 2026, I sent the power supply back to MSY to confirm the major fault and to provide a replacement or refund. They state in their conditions, and they communicated in their support chat, they may send the item back to the supplier for possible repair. I have been communicating with them for over 2 months to try to gain a replacement or refund required by the Australian Consumer Law but have been unsuccessful.

Great service from an outstanding…

Great service from an outstanding veteran IT company. Amazing product and price with quick delivery. Product arrived in perfect condition. MSY are one of the few that stay on my radar for the best up to date products

RMA service needs improvement

Returned my gpu for rma as it was faulty. Told me only the supplier can assess it and it would be 4 weeks. 6 weeks later they offer a 'replacement'. I picked up the replacement which was a refurbished one in unoriginal packaging. After raising this on their support page they had my original packaging returned.

Terrible Service

Terrible Service! Unorganised & time wasters. Go elsewhere! I called to book in by phone & the girl on the phone directed me to their website. I should've guessed how badly organised they are by their website. I arrived to drop my computer in, paid $12 for parking, only to be told by staff they don't work on computers they didn't assemble! I complained & both staff agreed at how Unorganised the whole place is. Wow!

Sold me a faulty motherboard

Sold me a faulty motherboard. I took it back to the dandenong store, they advised it would have to be assessed at another location - timeline to be resolved was a week.

Now they've told me it's going to take 4 weeks just to be assessed. No refund, no return, only that they will repair it if there's an issue.

I'm now unable to use my primary device, I'm a small business owner without their main device for work for a month.

Signature Post? For $19 Items? Really?

These morons send a $19 cable only by signature post. SIGNATURE POST. Postman Pat didn’t even knock and now a cable I need to fix my WFH setup won’t be ready at the post office until tomorrow at 4pm so I have to go into the office and deal with humans and my a**hole area manager. Thanks MSY, you messed up my week.

I ordered a new PC case that was DOA, and they barely cared whilst also trying to avoid consumer law

I ordered a new PC case, which arrived as expected, but turned out to have a manufacturing defect and thus was DOA. I emailed their support pictures of it, and followed up twice more in the coming days but never heard back. Eventually I had to call them, and they said that they could not just replace the part that was damaged - which was considered a spare part - but that I would have to return the whole thing, and it would take two to four weeks to be assessed and replaced. I told them this was not not be suitable, so instead would like a refund, but was then told that they could not guarantee a refund. Having looked into it, I found I was within my rights to receive a refund, so called them back and arranged the return. At first even though it was an online order, they wanted me to drive (3 hours) to the nearest store to return it, but I made it clear I was not going to do that, and they seemingly begrudgingly agreed to generate a return label. Whilst I was thanking them for their help, they were monotone and unenthused the entire time. They also said that they can put a request in for the refund, but it may still take a number of weeks. This also does not align with Australian Consumer Law. I won't be buying from MSY / Umart again, and would encourage others to note how poor their online reviews are now. I didn't check, as I know previously they were a good company, but I did not notice Umart had acquired them.

Worst Customer Service around

Worst Customer Service around. Customer service is only a middlle man when chasing an order. You must wait for customer service to get a reply from store. i Wasn't allowed to swap ram chips valued at $419 for a set that was $329, but i was able to get a full refund on the whole order. they would rather lose the whole $1300 than the $90 i wanted to change. No logic here or they are just gotten to busy and not worried about what the customer wants. Ill never buy a Computer or parts from here again.

In April 2024

In April 2024, I purchased a Synology DS1522+ NAS with 5 Seagate X18 12TB Enterprise HDD from MSY.
The Seagate drives are covered by a 5 year warranty.
Synology to their credit monitor the system and contact you via email when anything needs attention.
Following 2 notification's by Synology that disk 1 had developed a number of bad sectors and that replacing the disk was the best option to avoid compromising the NAS, I contacted MSY and provided all documentation to obtain a replacement.
The initial response showed the person replying had no idea of what or how a NAS system works.
I responded and pointed out the errors a the reply and was advised the matter would be referred to their technical support team.
After 9 days, I received a reply telling me to forward the HDD to them for their assessment and action.
This advice is contradicted by Synology and leaves me without any redundancy for an unspecified period of time, effectively shutting my photography business down.
A pathetic response from a reseller of business equipment.

fast preparation and good service

bought pc parts from msy and had a great expirence with them, the empty store made it great for introverted pc builder to talk to staff and when ordering my parts, was given professional advice on substitutes and free bios update to my motherboard to help easien the build proccess

Purposely withholding refund

I placed and cancelled an online order on the same day because I found the PC $400 cheaper at mwave. Almost 2 weeks later I still haven't received a refund. I opened a PayPal dispute and they told me they can't refund me until I close the dispute. That makes no sense, the whole point of the dispute is to facilitate a refund. If I close it, there's no guarantee I'll ever receive my money. All they need to do is respond to the PayPal dispute and I'd receive a refund. They are simply refusing to do so. I'll never shop here again.

Made an order for a product and had paid for it Then I realised had order the wrong product.
Then sent an email to the company and they were very nice said will organise a refund for me said will take a few working days to be debited back into my account.was very pleased with that then re-ordered the product I wanted Great service thankyou MSY From Tom a happy customer

They might know about computers but…

They might know about computers but they know nothing about customer satisfaction.

I bought the wrong memory sticks at Adelaide Currie St. branch and went back to return them a hour later, wanting to buy the correct ones. Refused to do so, even though the replacement ones would actually cost more. They claimed the seal had been broken so they didn't need to refund. I had slid the sticks half way out of the packet before realising they were the wrong ones. Slid them straight back in and sealed it up. Under their policy that makes it ineligible for a refund. If someone replies to this review and tries to tell me that this packet in perfect condition is now somehow unsaleable I've got a bridge to sell you.

Now, a savvy staff member would realise that, 1) a replacement would realise the same or more profit than the original item, 2) being so anal would bring them a bad review + the consequences of that, and 3) they lose a customer forever.

I took my business to centre.com on Pulteney St. and spent an extra $100 in the process.

And so, here we are. Perhaps a discretionary refund would have been better for all parties.

Appalling and uncaring

I bought a bunch of parts from here to upgrade my PC. Installed it on the 19/10/2023. From day one I had issues where the power would turn itself on and off, go into a boot loop cycle - I basically couldn’t use it. Took into Crawford Computers in Greenway to try and repair the system. Long story short had around $2000 total in service fees, changed my power supply thinking that was the problem, my internal drive fried had to get that replaced. I didn’t have my computer for two months straight - same issue every time until Crawford went to MSY, bought the exact same brand of motherboard from them, changed the motherboard - and finally it works. So the original board I bought from MSY was faulty. I returned the faulty motherboard I had initially purchased in the Motherboard Box that Crawford Computers had bought the working motherboard (I had thrown out my box and asked Crawfords to keep ahold of the box they’d bought from MSY) and returned it to MSY for the warranty claim.
On the day of handing it in, I explained everything that had happened, even Crawfords buying another board from them and was hoping for a cash refund.
But no, the manufacturer returned another exact working motherboard to MSY for me to collect.
WHAT AM I TO DO WITH 2 EXACTLY THE SAME MOTHERBOARDS?!?
all I can do is resell it at a reduced price.
Thanx…. Thanx a bunch…. I pay the cost of 2 motherboards (one useless to me) and $1600 in service fees. Thanks for putting me out around $2000.
Not coming back here ever again - not like losing one customer will bother you. But 2 months with no PC, the money I lost and still will lose - what a joke.

Update: I have contacted Consumer Affairs and hope to get this resolved. MSY still refuse to give me a refund on the motherboard since the Manufacturer replaced the product which I refuse to collect because doing so would mean I accept the terms of the warranty.

Watch out for "open boxed" items

Watch out for "open boxed" items. I bought a CPU online and the box looked like it was old and damaged - not just "opened" and the CPU had hard scuff marks. Basically I was buying second-hand items which was not satisfactory. I was expecting just an opened box item in excellent condition - not used at all. They refused a refund or even an exchange.
