Received a caution almost 15 years ago for some stupidity at a period when I was going through some personal difficulties. Researched how I could have it removed from my record and came across Matt Elkins. We did two consultations, where Matt explained the process, looked into my case and advised me as to the likelihood of having the caution removed. He explained it would take time (and it did - blame the Metropolitan Police), but we had made a comprehensive and persuasive submission. And then at 6pm last Friday, he sent me an email with the decision that the Met had agreed to the deletion.

It's hard for me to put into words just how much Matthew helped me. I received a caution almost 10 years ago now which hung over me in all aspects of life; not just with job opportunities or travel but emotionally and mentally too.

I can't recommend Matt and Myriam enough. I received a caution nearly decade ago and it has hung heavily over me ever since. I am not in the habit of writing online reviews but must do so on this occasion due to the outstanding work and support Mathew Elkins has given me in the removal my caution. I really cannot Thank You enough Matthew. You have been a God send.

I had received a soliciting caution over 10 years ago and buried my head in the sand until I needed to get it removed or expose it to my partner. I did not even know you could get it removed until I spoke to Mathew.

After researching online and reading reviews I came across Mathew Elkins. Choosing him was the best and most important decision in my life. I really cannot thank Mathew enough. He was so knowledgeable, calm and did not give any false promises at all. He explained everything clearly, no matter how many times I asked him to repeat himself and most importantly he actively took the time to listen to my side of the incident without judgement. He explained the process we would go through extremely well and was most importantly confidential. My caution has been successfully removed and I really cannot express how happy I am. For many years since receiving the caution, I thought my life was over and was ashamed, but Matthew gave me my life and confidence back and now I can move on. This very day on a Saturday on the 13th March was the day my life changed 17 years ago after being arrested and receiving a caution. I had told the truth about a situation but was bullied and hounded by police officers, called names and terrified into accepting something that would change the course of my life for almost 2 decades.

Having a caution was a millstone around my neck, affecting my ability to volunteer, my job choices and eventually leading me to drop the university degree course I had chosen to study as I was informed by my tutors I wouldn’t get anywhere after my qualification with a criminal record.

I wish I had had a solicitor that was worth his salt like Matt whilst I was going through the process 17 years ago. Instead I had a solicitor who was actively frightened about the police and scared me as much as the police into accepting the caution for ease so everyone could go home. I unfortunately no longer have faith in the judicial system or the police. I was always brought up to respect the police.

This whole process has had devastating effects on my health, mental health, my relationships, my ability to trust anyone outside of my family.

Luckily I have a lioness of a Mum who stood by me and kept me strong throughout the whole process and afterwards. She is the one who found Matt, I cannot thank my Mum enough for everything she has ever done for me, she is my Guardian Angel. Matt is my other one, he is the person who holds the golden key to freedom that lots of us shouldn’t even have had to ever worry about.

From the beginning I trusted Matt’s carefully given advice and guidance, whilst never offering false hope he assured me he would do everything that he could to help me. I am SO HAPPY to say that I am free from that awful situation and Matt gained my freedom for me once again. I can finally breathe again, I can see the sky clearly and hear the birds singing, life has come into colour once again, I feel like a six year old running so fast through fields with my arms wide open. I also have a very deep and real sadness that those last 17 years of my life are wasted years, where most people had careers and families, I felt that I was in suspended animation, unable to move on from fear and PTSD.

I AM FREE - if you value your freedom and you’ve had something similar happen, please use Matt, what harm can it do to try and fight? I am so pleased to say that I am finally studying my chosen degree again, I am working in a job that requires a DBS check, I am actively seeking volunteering opportunities, my life can finally start again as it should have done when I was 21. My freedom is the most important thing I have thanks to my Mum and to Matt. I live everyday to its fullest.

I cannot tell you or explain to you the utter joy and how it feels to not have something like that ever associated with me or my name. It should never have been so in the first place. Everything changed for the better for myself and my family thanks to Matt’s help.

After being in a very happy relationship for many years, my partner became extremely ill (then undiagnosed but later it was diagnosed as Parkinsons), I was facing redundancies at work, and I became so ill that I was prescribed anti seizure medication. The medication prescribed to me by my neurologist affected me in such a significant way I ended up receiving a caution for some items damaged at my girlfriends house, who also had extreme parkinsons paranoia.

Unfortunately, this was a very bad combination, having previously been looking after her, both my partner and myself would now have been classified as neurologically unwell or at the very least mentally dysfunctional. My partners Parkinsons and the significant impact on my reasoning and personality that the anti seizure medication caused was a really misfortuned combination.

The CPS refused to drop proceedings against me despite these facts, or remove the caution for criminal damage at the property, and sought to prosecute me, despite myself and partner requesting it to be done so and trying to explain the unfortunate and unusual set of circumstances that befell us. The police were entirely wrongly convinced that I was some kind of violent man out of control, despite having no criminal record whatsoever, a good character, and there being a plethora of medical evidence of the claim that my behaviour was entirely caused by the influence of a medication. I also pointed out that I believed my partner was neurologically ill too, which was later proven by a doctor in DAT scanner. Unfortunately the police aren't very good at playing doctor, and that's unfortunate. They can be very heavy handed.

Sometimes, despite appearances, terrible things happen due to circumstance, not due to precise intent, guilt, abuse or criminality. Matthew Elkins represented my case with the precise clarity and objectivity needed to prove the aforementioned beyond reasonable doubt to the MET and CPS. The police agreed, removing all records of the caution including the data removed from the PNC computer fingerprints, photo and etc.

It makes me think there are many instances of injustice, or just incompetent mistakes of the police, in particular with Acton police Station. I needed urgent medical attention at the time, instead I was treated like a criminal.
