A Trip of a Lifetime from a Semi-Retired Teacher

Volunteering with GoEco was a life-changing experience from start to finish. From the moment I committed to the program to the moment I left Nepal, GoEco supported me every step of the way. Their local partners, The Green Lion, were exceptional, providing an authentic immersion into Nepali life, culture, and history, and handling all logistics and issues seamlessly.

My project, Empowering Women in the Community, was both wonderful and fulfilling. During my three weeks there, I felt I made a small but meaningful difference. My students, ranging in age, eagerly learned new things and participated in the activities I prepared. Their enthusiasm and motivation were the keys to our success.

I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to volunteer and meet other amazing volunteers, hosts, and local Nepali people through GoEco. This experience felt like a rite of passage, one that I believe every young person should undertake to contribute to a better world.

I spent one week in Ischia, Italy, volunteering to research about cetaceans and I loved the experience it was quite memorable. Living on a vintage sailboat was an entirely different experience, and waking up to the beautiful sun and views of Ischia is amazing. Being a high school student, I was hesitant travelling alone overseas, but communication was always smooth and GoEco helped me a lot. I really enjoyed the homemade Italian food, and the times spent out at sea and seeing sperm whales, dolphins, tuna, etc. was unlike any other experience. I learned about their equipment as well as sustainability, biology, environmental science, etc.

I really enjoyed my experience with GoEco and my volunteering program. The staff were all very kind and helpful. They made me feel safe while traveling and checked in throughout my trip. They were also available for support and answering questions.

My experience with GOECO began with the amazing GOECO team, who helped me with every question and problem I had, for which I'm very grateful.

Following that, I joined an Impact organization in Barcelona for a marine conservation program. The entire experience was very meaningful to me, but unfortunately, it was too short. I only stayed for one week and wish I could have stayed longer. In my opinion, one week is not enough for this program.

The accommodation was very basic but included two meals. The team at the diving center was professional and dedicated to the program's goals.

My experience was great. I would definitely do it again!

It was nice to have updates and a schedule of all the paper work needed and when it was due . When I did my visa though there was some pretty specific needs for the photo that hadn't been made clear by the visa company. They wanted a photo from the waist up , no make up , no smile , no glasses , no jewelry, hair pulled back and a long sleeved button down shirt .
In Nusa Penida I stayed in the private bungalows which were nice but because of the religion of the country there is a call to prayer 5 times a day.one of which was at 430 or 5 am and would last about a half hour . Just so you know.

As a former educator, my preparation and training was advantageous for my teaching experience at Khawalung Monastery. As I had 2 separate experiences, the first was the best. The difference being, the number and commitedness of my colleagues.
The permanent staff was affable, although their English varied widely.
Frankly, although Green Lion support was helpful, the first week orientation, in my opinion, was not necessary. I suggested to them, that visits to monastery during orientation would be more useful than experiences hosted by Green Lion.
Overall, my experience was quite helpful. I was fortunate in my 4 week December experience, as the other volunteers, 4 Italians, 2 Spanish, German, Austrian, and English, I am U.S.based, made for an incredibly memorable experience. The children monks were equally memorable.
My critique; the lack of an academically trained principal, as well as staff, made for an inadequate learning environment. The lack of structure, and direction for volunteers, was notable. I am in contact with principal to visit a monastery in Pokhara, that is an exemplary educational institution. I have been offered a teaching position there because of my 3 degree credentials. I am the only volunteer in 25 years to be offered a position. In closing, Khawalung was an unforgettable experience. I would recommend it, despite the shortcomings. I would be remiss in not mentioning the neighborhood; the shop, cafes, and nearby hotel, the locals are welcoming. Be prepared for rice 3 times a day.

The whole experience was so organised from planning the trip together with go eco to the the volunteering program it self. The stuff and the other volunteering were very welcoming and help us at every request and question that we had.

The working in the volunteering program was unique and meaningful.

Amazing experience, everything on this plan is so organised and full of support. I felt very confident coming to this project thanks to the go echo team and the team in Aasha house.

I felt like I was living in paradise! The location was amazing and beautiful, the people were so kind and welcoming, and the work was so rewarding. The small beach town made it easy to walk anywhere and the locals were so kind, always offering a warm smile. The work inside the office and out on/in the water was so exciting and knowledgeable regardless of the task. I was surprised by the sleeping/living areas. They were nicer than I was expecting. Food did end up being a little too repetitive after the second/third week. But overall I was very happy where I was, what I was doing, and I believe my money was well spent!

Not only were the staff of GoEco friendly and supportive, they made my trip booking and planning super easy and memorable. The trip to Belize was such an eye opener and I highly recommend it to anyone. The diving staff are patient and informative, and the corals, fish, and other marine animals you get to see will absolutely take your breath away! If you want to go, just do it! You got this!

My volunteer experience with GoEco in Barcelona was exceptional. Their professionalism and friendliness were evident from the start. The organization's thoroughness in every aspect of the program left a lasting impression.
The team at GoEco displayed professionalism in their communication and organization. They provided clear and prompt responses, making the journey stress-free. Upon arrival, I was warmly welcomed and introduced to comfortable accommodations, exceeding expectations. Delicious meals added to the enjoyment of my stay.
Volunteer activities were diverse and enriching, allowing immersion in meaningful work while experiencing Barcelona's culture. From conservation projects to community outreach, each activity was thoughtfully planned.

GoEco was amazing to work wit, they took care of all the logistics in a one stop shop! They made sure I had all the information I needed prior to leaving and while I was there, and checked in to make sure everything was going smoothly! There are so many options available it was hard to pick just one, but it was truly such a once in a lifetime experience that was rewarding in so many ways! I can't wait to discover another eco location in the future!!!

The only minus is that there is no flexibility at all when it comes to budget - even if you don't use for example the airport transfers (because you're there already), they will not adapt pricing.

I had the most amazing experience volunteering at the sanctuary. It was hard but very rewarding work and I’m so grateful to have been given this amazing, unique opportunity.

Hi! I've recently returned from my three-week volunteering in Chipangali, where I've had the experience of a lifetime. As stated in the GoEco docs I'd read before my trip, the volunteering work really turned out to be physically demanding, but also very rewarding. As someone who had never before done any physical labor, I've learned how to use various tools, such as pliers, wheelbarrow, spade, rake etc. I also participated in some unique experiences, such as sheep vaccinating, feeding of the wounded owl, snake releasing and many more. The Wilson family, who own and run Chipangali, are very kind people, who helped me whenever I had any trouble. The staff was also very friendly and helpful, whenever we faced animal situations we were unfamiliar with. The coolest example of this was when my fellow volunteer and I were cleaning the crocodile cage...with them in it! Alex, who is in charge of reptiles, was with us the whole time and there wasn't any danger because he led us through the process step by step.
All in all, I'm very satisfied with the whole program and the way GoEco prepared me for it, and I would certainly recommend it to anyone who wants to learn about animals (I didn't go there with that purpose in mind, but I learned a ton!), get some hands-on experience in working with them, meet some awesome people, see beautiful African landscape (Matopos + Vic falls) or just try something new, for all of that is guaranteed if you come volunteering in Chipangali!

This was a second volunteering trip for my wife and I (recently retired - so not just for youngsters!), and it fulfilled all our expectations. The work in the Maldivian heat (30 degrees all day, every day) was quite hard work, but the rewards of helping turtles recover from some horrific injuries and being readied for release made it all worthwhile. There was ample time for snorkelling in the pristine waters to see some amazing underwater wildlife. The staff in the Atoll Marine Centre were amazing and helped everyone understand their role and the purpose behind what they were doing. GoEco provided all the information required beforehand to make the planning and the journey seamless. My only minor complaint is that guaranteeing a two-person room in the volunteer house for my wife and I wasn't possible beforehand, however this was arranged by the local team for our arrival. It would have been reassuring to have had this confirmed before we finalised everything.
