Great site I use to donate anything from plants to a large TV, or smaller items in good condition. The downside is, a huge percentage of people are the same 'professional beggars' functioning with many email addresses, who ask for high value items or a long shopping list of items, they are eager to snap at you entitled if you dare tell them this is not acceptable. Some arrive very late and text you 'I am round the corner' when they are even 30min late to pick up the TV, or worse, never arrive, showing how disrespectful they will treat everyone and society in general in a repeated pattern (even after exchanging many emails/text messages with them and telling them many people wanted that item). Apparently they even snap at moderators, swearing, if it does not go in the pattern it suits them, thinking they are the only ones with problems in the world. Unfortunately is the same group of people you find in all major cities, used to receiving so many 'freebies' all their lives, some selling the items they get here via other sites or even complaining when you tell them they have been chosen from the dozen people wanting the same item: they are never happy.

This is supposed to be a website where we offer/receive free donations, and this is presumably because we are trying to help those in need OR we ARE the ones in need
I was told my request is like asking for cash. Well, that's pathetic. Asking for ANYTHING is like asking for cash. If I asked for a bottle of coffee because I don't have money for it, that's "asking for cash."
This website is unbelievable with its double standards.

Was always a fan of Freecycle when I first started using it but it quickly became apparent that it was not being used in the true spirit it was designed for. In the wanted section same old names looking for high value items. I put three top of the range bathroom cabinets of identical design in the offers section a few months apart and the same person came forward each time. Also the number of time wasters is beyond a joke. For these reasons I have stopped using.

loved FREECYCLE in the past. And still the concept is great. New site is counterintuitive and difficult to navigate. Really miss the instructions that were given to all newbies back when it first started. it was very straightforward. now I am clicking on different things just to try to change status of offer to "taken" and it's wasted a lot of time. MISS THE OLD SITE. Just posted something and could write "TAKEN" when someone took it without trying to figure out the bugs in this new site. Really need someone with experience to overhaul the site and make it user friendly. Thank you... the concept is still great. Just need to make site Way easier to use PLEASE!

horrible been member of leeds 22 days.in that time i been modded unmodded then modded again.gestapo mods.i posted lots of offers and was kept waitin forever before they went on.i posted 1 wanted and mod deleted it so tried again n same thing happened..horrible way to treat new members.now told 1 wanted ad every 30 days.i never even got 1 on.dont know why they like this.every 30 days are they serious.i seen multiple wanteds go on from obviously not modded folks.one rule for thee etc shambles.i have withdrawn my offers now.we are not kids and this is not good to be treated like one.also there was an ad of a lady offering sex services complete with 3 nude pics she was unmodded.it didnt get removed til next morning was on all night.a few weeks ago the site was run brilliantly and now its a crock.i know it was run very well last few years as my husband has been long time member.i myself have only joined 3 weeks ago.

Unlike others who’ve posted here, I haven’t had problems with the website functionality or with moderation. My disappointment has been with the users. I see people here referring to “time wasters” and I have to agree. I get the feeling there are people who just sit on the site and pounce when they see something they either might like for themselves or, think they can sell. They respond enthusiastically, promise they can come and get the item at any time and then at the last minute come up with excuses as to why they can’t after all do so or don’t, after all want what they’ve been adamant they must have. Of course not everyone’s like that but enough are for me to have wasted hours of my time and to have decided, reluctantly, to delete my account.

I found this website to be useless. My home town being skegness was not listed within so they added Boston.
I searched for a wheelchair and they came up with 1 pushchair, so I typed in wheelbarrow and they came up with 1 ladies bike.
I tried again with chest of draws, but this time there was nothing.

PROS
- Free to use
- You may get free stuff
- Someone may collect your unwanted stuff for free
- Green ethos - recycle and reuse
- Site requires log-in profile, so some protection for personal details

CONS
- Site functionality: unable to upload photos despite following all their hacks/fixes inc. creating fresh posts
- So had to share phone details to send photos
- Unable to delete posts
- Time taken to approve posts
- Seemingly impossible to unsubscribe from and I defo didn't sign up to get general emails

I really like the idea and would happily pay a donation to help towards cost of improving functionality

I use Freeview mostly to give items that are too good for the tip away for free to people who need/want them in the local area, but honestly, it's just such a faff and you often end up sitting in the house for hours waiting for people who never show up. I've had good experiences with people being really responsive and collecting quickly, but more experiences with people not responding / being no-shows / not having space in the car for it. For balance, the one time I used it as a 'customer' - I got a lovely piece of furniture in great condition that I still use to this day. The issue with Freecycle isn't the concept, it's some of the time wasters who use it...

I absolutely LOVE Freecycle - I have picked up loads of excellent quality items (wardrobes, glass coffee table, lampshade, desk, bed, mirror, drawers, bedside table to mention just a few). I have also passed on many unwanted items including a bike, old desk, coffee table, towel rail, bedding, clothes.
I guess it depends where you live

Only had one experience, but overall was pretty good. I guess because the other end was interested in the product I was advertising, so the whole process was pretty smooth, even though I had to rush because of the short time frame I had.

My only complain would be the platform's ux design, but since I only needed to use the site once, I wouldn't say it was a major problem.

For some reason people don't even want antique furniture, ive had real probs, till I felt it being not a nice experience. 3 times I've had items that I didn't even want to get rid of but have to and no one replies despite the fact that they're nice items it seems they only want and ask for Ikea this and Ikea that and even boats cars and tablets etc etc. So I'm having to maybe try somewhere else. Gumtree seems a bit naff as people just ask if you still have item then no reply back etc etc I've an antique mirrored overmantle Dresser Top no one's replying to on freecycle, so maybe il just smash it up.

Good idea ruined by time wasters Posted all my white goods as moving to place with fitted goods received a message at 3am saying I'll have it if you deliver. Things went downhill from there people were seemingly enthusiastic but then didn't reply to messages. Asked for more details and more photos so provided by e mail then whole day wasted with messing on with people who are just mucking about. Too good for tip but that's where it's going closed account which is shame as worked in past

Once upon a time this was an amazing site with a great purpose of helping others and reducing landfill by offering unwanted items to other users free of charge to be reused, now its a platform for rude scroungers. I have repeatedly left the site (Telford) due to the current misuse of it and only rejoined when I have something to offer, it is now a site plagued by people with no manners requesting things. Now I do not have an issue with people in genuine need trying their luck to save a few quid but the majority do not have manners. I have bought this to the attention of the moderators who justify this by defending people from other countries who have moved in to the area not knowing what manners are..I think its plain rudeness! Some of the requests are unjustified as certain users are clearly making a profit from the site and they call themselves "collectors", if I could afford retro games consoles which are worth a fortune I certainly would not give away! I have seen requests for cars, boats, quads, motorbikes, caravans and motorhomes for "projects". Not so long back someone asked for a shipping container!! A big gripe is people asking for stuff and it must be delivered too..unbelievable! Whether requesting in a wanted or an offer, make the effort to collect this item. Last week someone requested 2 wardrobes to be delivered. I have put up many items over the years and the usual scroungers "can I collect today?" Erm no, just because you do not work and freeload I do work and you can work around me. Many requests are specific, colour, shape, size, condition, if its free and you in need get what you are given. So wrapping up, the site is now a scrounging platform with certain users really taking liberties and the moderators sit back and let it happen...what are thet moderating?

My experience of freecycle is that you arrange to have an item, then it is given to someone else

Pretty poor web service. I know it's free and the principle behind the idea is absolutely spot on but the execution can't be described as anything but woeful. It's so archaic and clunky. It's like messageboards from 25 years ago. Sadly, Freecycle hasn't kept up with the times.

To post anything it requires a moderator to approve. Yes, Every. Single. Post. And that may take some time.

Then notifications. A slightly confusing array of notified for every single post, a daily digest, group notices (whatever that means) or never receive anything. So, if you want to be notified that someone's messaged you you literally have to open the floodgates to a whole bunch of stuff you don't need.

And then the clunky way you have to pick a town in which to list your items. Apart from being geographically inaccurate in many cases you can only list in one town. So you have to rely on people in neighbouring towns to have included that town in their list. Maybe not a wholly bad idea but if you're trying to sell something to a wider audience there may be a possibility that they don't have your little town listed in their preferences.

And you get a whopping three photos to upload.

There are far better alternatives. Nobody needs Freecycle. I'm deleting my account!

cracking site is great full of loads of unused and recycled and perfect for those in need highly recommended

It's hard to recommend the site. I tried to post an item in good faith and it is just left hanging in moderation limbo, while other items are being posted by other members. It has been nearly 24 hours now and I understand that moderators are volunteers, but this makes no sense, with zero feedback given. I have a lot of decent items I'd love to share, but what's the point wasting time with such an inefficient service. Hopefully there will be AI moderation at some point and cut out the human.

Freecycle has become a way for lazy people to try and get their tip rubbish taken away. The site is buggy and offers no way to contact moderators.
Dreadful. I guess you get what (don’t) pay for.

Overall very good experience. Have been able to give away seamlessly loads of things Vs sending for recycling or landfill.
One young woman from the Ukraine was looking for warm clothes for her mother. We ended up talking about her journey.
No complaints - great idea.
