I’m very disappointed with the way the houses in South Bermondsey have been finished, the so called Silwood Collection’. The houses themselves look lovely, but none of the exterior features from the 3D designs have been delivered—no nice gardens, seating areas, parking, or the coffee shop that was supposed to open. They’ve even covered the basement windows with ugly panels. There’s still machinery around and muddy parking areas. Honestly, the area looked much nicer before. I really hope it gets completed property.

We have been left to live in an unsafe construction site since March 2021. Because the construction site remains unfinished, we can’t erect a gate to protect our homes. We’ve thus had to deal with people trespassing, including urinating in our drive way, having sex in the development site, drug taking, and vandalism. We’ve even had trespassers threaten physical violence for asking them to leave the development. Featherstone Homes literally hasn’t done anything meaningful to address these issues.

When we exchanged contracts in January 2021, Featherstone Homes told us that the entire development would be finished at the same time as our homes. When we completed in March 2021, Featherstone Homes told us categorically that the entire development would be finished in June 2021. It’s now June 2022 and the development still remains unfinished. Despite repeated requests, there’s been no meaningful update from Featherstone Homes.

We recently learnt that the Featherstone Homes have outsourced the development to another developer, who has tried skimp out on finishing the development according to the Council’s approved plans.

Featherstone Homes also sold us our homes with solar panels, but then provided houses without solar panels.

Featherstone Homes have and continue to breach its obligation to transfer the common land to the management company (that the residents are shareholders in). Rather, one of the directors at Featherstone Homes dissolved the management company without notifying us, which means that the land cannot be transferred to the management company. This director has now been referred to the Insolvency Service for director misconduct.

Featherstone Homes also refused to register the residents shares with Companies House, another issue that’s been reported to the Insolvency Service.

Featherstone Homes also sold two people in our development rights to park their vehicle on the land, but those people later found out that there’s an easement over the land where they were sold parking spaces (and thus can’t even use what they paid for). Featherstone Homes responded that, while they knew about the easement, it wasn’t their problem because it was their (the buyers) solicitors fault for not checking the title deeds (probably important to mention that the buyers solicitors were appointed and paid for by Featherstone Homes).

Featherstone Homes have also failed to fix snags.

As mentioned above, the development is not being finished in accordance with the plans approved by Council. So Council have now had to get involved to ensure compliance.

Honestly, purchasing a home from Featherstone Homes has been a complete nightmare and far from the picturesque development we thought we were buying!

If you do want to buy a house from Featherstone Homes: (a) do not use the lawyers that they agree to provide and pay for as part of the purchase price (they won’t act for you, but serve to secure further business from Featherstone Homes); (b) get everything in writing (Featherstone try and operate on a “just trust us basis” but trust me, they are not trustworthy); and (c) check the property title, including easements held by neighbouring properties (Featherstone Homes has purchased defunct land and then sold it to us and left us with all the resulting legal troubles).

Generally, just proceed with extreme caution.

Poor all round, they market themselves as a builder of up market properties but what they produce is far from this. Properties are unfinished, come with cheap appliances and the aftercare is non existent.

Beware of dealing with the owner who is a bully and extremely rude.
