We bought a new house in Swinton recently. Alicia who is the one that helped us in the whole procedure. She's very nice, cheerful and her customer service was perfect. She’s professional and efficient. Thanks to Alicia as she made very big effort to help us.

To summarise, it’s builders like Elan that give other builders a bad reputation. Moved into our property in July last year and it’s been a full-time job ever since to even get a response on the problems/snags.

We still don’t have a functioning front door seven months in (they’re also aware that this is a security issue as we have a newborn baby), they haven’t touched the sides of our snags that we issued the first week of moving in, we had the wrong kitchen layout built, damaged flooring, a full garden of weeds on arrival, next doors down pipes into our garden (not stipulated on any drawings), the windows incomplete and have trickle vents that allow air in/out of the property, our boundary has been compromised with the fencing layout and the overall finish and quality is well below industry standard, never mind a company that claims to provide a premium product.

The customer care team have been none-existent so I’d appreciate it if they didn’t respond to this review with a generic response to save face. We’ve tried this approach already to no avail!

I could go on further as the list is endless, I would give 0 stars if I was able to. I’m also not the only one on the development to encounter these problems.

I bought a new build property from Elan this year and unfortunately in the recent windy weather, two ridge tiles were blown off the roof leaving a hole. Being ridge tiles, these should be fixed in place with cement and so shouldn't simply get blown off, particularly being so new. Elan are refusing to take responsibility and trying to force me to claim on my home insurance. This has been such a shame and disappointment to what have thusfar been very nice homes.

Unfortunately this company have managed to spoil what was a good experience or hidden crap I should say. Cheap and shoddy finishing has been discover around brick work, dry valleys and roof tiles.

I have kindly askedthey fix this to be dismissed to the NHBC. It’s taken a year to sort the roads and now it’s apparent 70% of the houses are having the same issues.

Do not buy from these clowns - cut corners, cheap materials and crap work force. We even witnessed a fight between the site manager and some suby being laid off. Go to Barrat that says something.

Rosie has been fantastic from the start, very knowledgeable of the area and so lovely with it. She has been so attentive and always there to answer my questions.

We (myself, my wife & our son) had a house viewing appointment with Shirley at Greenside View. She's very warmly, cheerful and her customer service was per excellent, far more than our expectations and it was so sad that we could not find the type of a house that we wanted. However, Shirley still go ahead and refereed us to their other site in Swinton. Thanks to Shirley as she made our day worthwhile!

My issues with Elan are ongoing, not as a buyer but as an existing resident whose garden backs on to their building site. I strongly suggest that you make sure that there are no plots of land without buildings on before buying a property. I’m sure that Elan is no worse than any other property developer but I’m having to write this review because it’s the only way that they will respond (maybe) even if their response is to come up with more lies. Once you’ve bought your house, you will not be able to contact Elan by phone. The recorded message will tell you to email and then you’ll get an automated reply saying that they’ll reply within five working days. They never reply to my emails. I emailed the site manager and invited him to visit to see how things feel from my side but he just forwarded it to ‘customer services’, a misnomer if ever there was one, and I got the usual response. I hope Elan will respond to this because they certainly didn’t ‘reach out’ or discuss things further’ with me last time. I want to propose a way forward but I can’t if they won’t engage. I’m about to send another photo of the portaloo and building materials that should not be standing above my fence to planning enforcement. Over to you Elan.

The site is brilliant and the houses are lovely.
