£47 call out fee to repair my sofa!!
My sofa is just over 12 month old and has started creaking when sitting on it. It is quite loud and i'm actually embarrased by it when we have guest round. I rang sofaworks to request a technician have a look at it and was quite shocked and disgusted to find out that they want a £47 call out fee from me before sending someone out. The sofa is apparently under warranty for 5 years so why if i have faulty goods should i pay a fee for them to repair it. They say i'll get the money back but i'm not to sure about that!!
Middlebrook Retail Park
Visited DFS first...rushed salesmanship just wanted to sell felt like just another number! Made our way to CSL and the differences were poles apart! We were served by Chris Williams & she couldn't have been more friendly or helpful! Explained everything clearly and made us feel like a customer rather than a number! Would recommend!!
Worst place and customer service ever!
Bought a leather sofa and electric recliner chair. After a few months it sagged badly and the leather started peeling around the head rests and arm rests. CSL were not interested and blamed hair oil and sweat or the weather or the wrong kind of weather, anything but their cheap Chinese produced products, rude staff ignored all attempts to resolve so went through credit company and even had to pay £100 for an independent report to ensure we got it resolved. Still would not refund money and was forced to accept a repair. It was my own fault, we previously had 2 x sofas handmade by a small company for similar cost before this purchase that lasted 20 years and maker still came out FOC to replace castors after 13 years.
CSL are nothing but a importer of cheap tat from China and do not even hold stock, avoid like the plague all these stores, this is why they have to give interest free credit and hold sales all year round, never again and I will continue my vendetta to bad mouth them any chance I get.
Totally disappointed
I put a review on hear 2 half mth ago to say IDE been waiting over 6mth to get my sofa repaird and guess what I'm still waiting so a total of almost over 9 mth now totally discussing I will never use this company again we have now gone to trading standard to get my money back and get the sofa removed I spoke to csl 2 weeks ago they said parts would be hear in 4 day and nothing do not use this company they are a joke
they kept £100 of my money and i never got it back _ avoid going there.
CSL stockport (no longer there) back in 2009. Only went in to look and had my 2 young grandsons with me. Got pressured by 2 salesmen who convinced me that despite no money and poor credit rating that I could have new sofa, they convinced me to put down £100 deposit which was meant to go on Xmas presents. The next day I new I couldn’t afford it and phoned to cancel but they said I couldn’t and even if I didn’t want sofa I would have to pay full amount.
I kept saying no and then got phone call that I could cancel order but that they were keeping my £100. Totally disgusted that they could take peoples money like that - I will never set foot in any CSL ever again, I felt like I had been robbed especially as I could not afford it.
Poor after sales servicr
Ordered a 4 seater sofa in January 2014 which was delivered early April costing £1500
In October 2014 reported that one of the back cushions was very depleted, as if the filling inside was flattening and therefore the cushion was sagging causing an empty sack look on the leather.
After trying for ages to get through to their customer services eventually someone came to take a look and he said it was 'fixed' .... It isn't ... But after calling the customer service again was told that there would be no more to be done and in effect ... Have washed their hands of my problem and offered nothing .... I am furious!!! To say the least ... I WILL have to take this further ...
I will take this to the CEO if neccessary
Disgusting customer service!
Spent over £2000 just over 2 years ago on a 3+2 recliner sofa in hope it would last us years to come.
Spent a lot of time searching and eventually decided on this one in brown leather because the very over pushy salesman told us it was top grade leather and would be great for a young family and wouldn't wear.
2 years down the line the leather 'coating' is literally peeling off one of the seats and along the seams, it looks shocking and is upsetting to see knowing how much it cost.
We paid for the sofa shield insurance who won't cover this but have admitted it is a common fault with csl leather.
Called sofaworks and was told this shouldn't happen after 2 years and was transferred to another department to book an appointment for an inspector to come look, eventually got through to Mike who scoffed 'well we can but you will have to pay the call out charge'! The call escalated from there and after being talked over, accused of not looking after the sofa and having it compared to his own sofa i managed to get an email to send photos to so an 'assessor' can look and get back to me, i hold no hope and know i will get fobbed off so the ombudsman will definitely be my next port of call.
Oh and for anyone thinking of buying a leather sofa from them, according to MIKE in customer service a splash of dilute juice is enough to cause leather to peel away as is merely sitting on the thing! Please don't buy their over priced cleaning kit either because i did and it hasn't done much!
Ombudsman or court here we come.
love our corner unit and marble tables!!
Went to the Croydon branch and chose a leather corner unit and chair plus a large marble coffee table and two lamp tables. Furniture arrived on the date as promised in January. The 3 tables came before Christmas but the top of the coffee table was in 2 pieces! The Polish delivery man got straight on to the distribution place and arranged a new table for the following week. All fine but after a few months we noticed a line across the table! I phoned them up and they sent another table the next week. No quibbles and no person to check I wasn't lying either.
I love the corner unit, chair and tables. The salesman was very nice and the delivery men second to none they were polite and phoned me every time to say they would be delivering in half an hour. I cannot fault the furniture whatsoever, the dog jumps on it and there are no scratches or anything. I would recommend this company to anyone! The furniture is well made and looks good.
Shoddy goods and Shoddy service
Bought my 3 and 2 seater leather sofas after much deliberation in store. I noticed that in store one of the display sofas had colour loss on the front seam -saleswoman assured me that the insurance policy would cover that. Duly bought along with two boxes of care kit - delivery went smoothly within agreed timescales. Within 9 months had large patch of colour loss on seat cushion and along raised seam on front of seat cushions. Lengthy phone call into CSL and they wouldn't repair unless I paid upfront. Absolute disgrace. Previously shopped at DFS and sofas were great, never ever had this problem before. Spent nearly double on these ones and they look wrecked. It's embarrassing. Independent testing and court next methinks.....
Worst customer service once they have your money
After sales service is terrible
Bought a three seater power recliner and two armchairs, the salesman in the store was very nice.
The problems have been since we received the furniture, one chair is faulty, as you look at the two chairs they are noticeably different, one is higher than the other, and the armrests are positioned differently. Friends coming into the house actually comment on this, the seat is not as padded as the other chair or the sofa. It is so soft we no longer use that chair. This is since it was about one month old.
I had a visit from one of their service engineers who tried to tell me that as they are made in a factory, different workman put them together in a different way and said he could do nothing!!
When I said this was not acceptable he insulted me and left.
I have tried to get a response from Sofaworks but they now seem to be ignoring me, be aware that if you have a problem with your new furniture you will get nowhere.
If I could give zero stars I would do so.
I am now in touch with the furniture ombudsman and am planning to take this through the courts if I have to.
wouldnt even give them one star if had the chance! disgusting company
CSL are a company that i recommend everyone avoids! very quick to get your money but no interest after! Had issues from delivery! They couldnt get sofa in on delivery day and instead of trying to help find a solution just left it upright along my passage! leaving me in tears til my dad come and finally managed to get it in! Bought a snuggle swivel chair, 2 piece sofa, fabric care kit and insurance! . For the price i paid i would expect to get few years use out of sofa! NOT the case! The fulls set is an absolute disgrace! every cushion is so out of shape and discolored its embarrassing for people to see when they come to the house! Followed all instructions that have come with sofa but have not kept in good shape, the arm on the sofa is creaking and wobbling and basically looks like it is coming slack! I still have 2 years left to pay on a sofa that is getting to a point will be unusable soon. The biggest let down of all for CSL though is their customer service! I have tried 4 times over last few months to email them, especially as i paid a lot for insurance but as of yet they have not bothered themselves to reply! If i get no reply to latest email then will be contacting the furniture ombudsman to see if can get anyone there to get a reply off them. All i have said to people i know is to avoid CSL like the plague!!
MY AGED PARENTS AND DYING FATHER WERE "RIPPEDOFF" BY CSL
We were conned into buying the Ontario suite at Rotherham store by the pushy and overly-forward George Vorgic their salesman who promised us the earth as indeed do all the showroom staff of this firm but then refuse to do anything about the faults or should I say RUBBISH they sold us once they have got your money. In the store the cushions felt largely quite firm but a few were very soft and I said that i would not like that-I was assured that every cushion on the one being made would be firm and solid as we wanted and that the ones in store were soft owing to the number of people sitting on suites to try them out .When this suite arrived despite it arriving undamaged it was clearly junk- The cushions on the sofa have had less than two weeks wear and it is like sitting on the sofa on an olympic medal winners podium you have the centre cushion solid as a rock, the left and right sunk in to varying depths so its like the scattered heights of 1st 2nd and 3rd place winners-CSL say this is not unacceptable and if we wish to complain it needs to go via the furniture ombudsman, how they have the gaul to timewaste and mess people about like this-especially my mother clocking up to 80 and my father who is dying is a disgrace-We only wanted the suite renewing to give him comfort in his final few months to be enabled to get up and sit comfortably or prop himself up on the sofa in the lounge -this is impossible given a person who is literally skin and bone already is sinking throgh a right hand cushion and with their legs a foot higher on the middle seat.In addition the recliner armchairs stand so proud by over a foot high on immovable metal bases (we wrongly assumed that they had castors after we told Rotherham store the furniture has to have movability as its for elderly people)so were sold a pup that you cannot move-The recliners look so bad that they are a foot off the ground, and the ugly arched base frame that we could not see inthe store is clearly a fault and stands so high a woman over the road asked us why have we put a cabinet back (mistaken for the suite/chair backs) against the window sill, given its height. My father was supposed to be given this suite as a Christmas surprise but it is so bad it was a Christmas shock and he actually cried. CSL have had no sympathy or customer care whatsoever now they have taken our money from us, in fact I would word it as "They have scammed a dying man" and if they feel that is a comment too far then let them rise to legal action,as I intend to take the matter for our money back through the county court.I am not messing about waiting for them to get away with it and my father distress himself more. They should do the right thing and immediately reimburse us the amount that we have been taken for a ride for. When the facebook pages and comment sites say to write to them with concerns they give you a form letter email of reply saying the recliners meet an international standard -it is not the fact the recliners do not open-they do-but they are over a foot off the ground and the chairs are sinking because they are padded with about an inch of foam in the seats -that is clearly a cheap, shoddy made product-this company has no idea or desire to follow the Sale of Goods Act 1979 as amended-and simply stall and delay everything in the hope the upset customer will go away.Well I'm afraid they picked the wrong customer here and I shall have my day in court armed with the hundreds of pages of print off of internet sites of everyone who has been ripped off by these sofa-selling scam artists. It seems the company has a track record of stalling and paying out rather than risk explaining themselves in the county court-going by the Clerk I obtained my forms from,She was well aware of the dozens of cases brought against them and said that CSL is well known for appearing on the claim forms she handles on a ever regular basis. Therefore if you are having no success direct with CSL and reading this please do the same-this business needs showing that the public will not tolerate been scammed for the junk they are flogging.
Utter shambles
Here is the email I have sent to the ceo regarding my order.
I will give you an update if I ever get a reply.
After speaking with the customer services department this afternoon regarding my order with csl I am totally disappointed and dismayed with the service I received.
After placing a order for £1205 for two sofas and a foot stool I was promised delivery before Christmas.
Today, I was given a 4hrs time slot of 08:45-12:45 and had arranged the morning off work along with child care to drop my children at school.
At 1:15pm I rang to advised delivery had not taken place. I would expect as common curtursey for you to call your customers if delivery will be late. This did not happen.
The lady in customer services advised me it would make the drivers even later if they were to call every customer to apologise. The advisor also said that they had so many delays they could not call every such customer. This makes a mockery of you giving your customers delivery slots if you cannot adhere to them. It only takes one person to drive the lorry and the second person in the lorry to simply call and advise on the delay.
I was also rudely told that I could have to wait till midnight for delivery and there was no way possible customer services could find out what the time delivery would be. The delivery arrived at 4pm unannounced but they only had the sofas and not the footstool. I had to call customer services again and I was told that someone would call me back, this evening but no such call was received and your call centre closed at 9 pm. So I have no idea if this will arrive tonight up to midnight - so do I have to sit up and wait just in case - or will it arrive tomorrow so do I go to work and risk missing delivery or stay home lose pay and annoy my employer.
I have paid £38 for delivery which was an added cost on the the price of the sofa at the time so I expect you to deliver within the contract and you have failed to do so. Being told you have far too many other customers having problems at this time of year is not my concern. I have paid and I have a right to either be delivered on time or a simple phone call so I could re arrange child care and walk the dog.
I expect that as a minimum you refund me delivery charge as an apology for the appalling service.
In addition to the missing footstool, your delivery staff damaged both sofas , the stairwell wall and a door frame getting the sofas in. I have photographed the damage and customer services want to send someone out to assess the damage. This means yet another day that I will have to sit in waiting for your staff.
I note that your customer services number is an 0844 premium rate and this is simply appalling. I made several calls and was in hold each time for long periods. At the time if writing my call has been on hold for 40 minutes. So that is close to one and a half hours at premium rate today alone. Clearly you need more staff to handle your calls or is customer service of no concern to you?
Regards
Natalie Harvey
Home damaged by CSL delivery drivers.
Plaster, stair banister and solid wood floor damaged when delivery drivers delivered sofas. When reported , customer services stated that they could tell from one emailed photo that the seven inch gouge in my recently sanded and sealed wood floor was already there. Very poor service.

Worst sofa i've ever had!!
Bought our sofa in August 2011 with the premium insurance and it came to around £1100 for a corner sofa - had to call out the technician after 6 months due to it creaking and I was in utter shock when he took it apart to fix it!! Extremely cheaply made, not what you expect for over a grand!! All the joints recently completely went on the sofa - was told to pay £47 before the call out which would be refunded if CSL were in the wrong. Luckily they were otherwise they would have hell to pay. My parents and grand parents sofas from DFS have lasted years and years with not a single call out and i've had mine just over 2 years and had about 4 different problems! We fluff all the pillows and don't sit in the same spaces and its still flat as a pancake! If we have to call out the repair man again I will be going to Trading Standards so for their sake lets hope my sofa makes it!
UPDATE - Told to email them in regards to problem and still no reply! Obviously writing that response to make out on Trustpilot they are helping. DON'T SHOP AT CSL!

£47 call out & electrical recliners
I too have had to call out to repair our sofa and was shocked to hear there was a charge for this as the sale of goods act clearly states 48b section 2)If the buyer requires the seller to repair or replace the goods, the seller must—
(a)repair or, as the case may be, replace the goods within a reasonable time but without causing significant inconvenience to the buyer;
(b)bear any necessary costs incurred in doing so (including in particular the cost of any labour, materials or postage).
i have been told this will be refunded only if my part/parts (electrics) are covered in the warranty by the manufacturer?! i was told on purchase the electrics where covered under the manufacturers for 10 years. i wasn't told some parts are and some parts are not! i felt quite happy when bought the sofa that the electrics where covered for this period, the structure was covered for life and the additional platinum cover £158 covered the leather etc. I have advised csl i will be seeking legal advise, i have paid for the call out but will not be paying for the additional parts needed if not under warranty. following legal advise i will ask them to replace the sofa which is within my rights of a consumer to do so.
Disabled buyers beware
Disabled buyer concerns
On the 19th August 2013 my new 3 seater settee recliner, 2 seater settee recliner and footstool was safely delivered. Fast forward 3 months I am very disappointed with the quality of the furniture. I went in store with my husband and daughter and discussed at great length our requirements with the saleswoman, my husband is disabled and he spends his days at home.
We went around the store and selected several settees, we asked advice on which would be best suited for our needs, after careful consideration and advice from the saleswoman we selected the ones we ordered. We also selected a footstool for my husband so he would not put a strain on the recliners.
We was informed on plumping up the settees and of the practice of rotating the seats, in order eliminate the favourite seating syndrome as discussed in Watchdog, at this time I informed the saleswoman that my husband weighs between 20 and 21 stone, I was told that as long as we rotate the seating there would be no problem and that the frame had a life time guarantee.
After 3 months we now have settees that are not fit for purpose, the seating areas are soft and when my husband sits on the settees he can feels a metal strips which is uncomfortable, the main purpose of seating is comfort and the ability to relax, none of these are possible.
A technician visited and completed a report on his findings; he found there is nothing wrong with the settees. The technician took photographs of the settees, but he refused to take a picture of my husband sat on the settee, this photograph would have clearly illustrated how far down the seat went. When the technician was leaving again it as mentioned the frame life time guarantee and of the weight limit of 18 stones, alarm bells went off, I informed him that this was the first time I had heard of a weight limit, we would not have purchased the settees if we had been made aware of this. The weight limit was later confirmed by technical services.
I have informed technical services of this and the offer made, because the furniture is now second hand and that we have had use of the furniture for just over 3 months we would be charged £450 which is approximately a third of the cost of the furniture and we would receive a credit note to cover the remainder to be spent in store. I am to phone tomorrow to find out if there is anything suitable in store for my disabled, 20 stone husband, if not what would happen to my credit note, depending on the outcome of the conversation, upon advice given I will be forwarding my concerns to Trading Standards.
It was also suggested by customer services that because of my disabled husband I would be more suited to go to a store that sells disabled furniture!
“CSL = "Customer Service Lousy"........”
Purchased a Corner Suite back in December 2012 and took delivery in March 2013. Foam cushioning sagging and fabric loose on corner unit after only 8 months of little use.....CSL DO NOT WANT TO KNOW. They say it is usage.....I laughed the house down when they told me that but after the laughter came the anger and disgust. I had a DFS suite before this one and it has lasted 15 years and I still have the 2 chairs as they are brilliant still. I doubt this CSL suite will last 15 months.......ABSOLUTELY SHOCKING, GUARANTEES WORTHLESS.
My advise is to contact the Furniture Ombudsman if you too have problems with your goods.
Crap company an poor customer service
Had my sofa delivered February 2013 after a couple of weeks I noticed a small tear in the chaise cushion. I reported this by phone and email I was given .... 2 days later no response so again phoned an they could not locate my email so I sent it again with pics attached.
Left it a couple of days I called them once again to be told they could not find it so I sent it to a Daniel who kindly called me 2 days later to say we would have to replace it. I sent a swatch off my sofa as requested and that was it.
Few weeks later still no call so again I call to chase to be told sorry the wrong colour has been sent??? We will have to re-order.
So again still no call in had to email/ call to chase this is now 3 month since I reported the fault. I was told yes it's in the service dept we will get it posted to you, another week passes by so I called yet again to hear sorry it's too big to post? Why was I not called and told ..... So then I was told we can deliver to your Speke store.
Another 2 weeks pass still no cushion or call and I'm still in the same position.
At this point I am loosing the will to live I have made over 20 calls ( all itemised) an numberous emails to this company with only one returned phone call this is a company to avoid.
My last email was to the complaints team still i waited 5 to which I had no response from them so yet again I called an had to explain myself over again I was called back by a 'manager' to be told store had ordered the wrong part!! Well store told me it was the manufacturer this company lie all the time never respond to customers and are a complete joke.
All I want is by money back and the sofa picked up I have given this company ample opportunities and over 3 month to wait for a cushion is rediculous.
Ben the manager was not listening to me an certainly has not understood the stress I am going through to get this resolved as he offered me my delivery charge refund of 39.50 this would not even cover my phone bill. By the way that was a GOGW?
I am now resorting to take this further to someone who can actually listen an deal with my complaint..... Avoid this company like the plague !!!
Very up happy customer !

Absolute garbage sofa and worse aftercare from CSL - Avoid like the plague
Having paid £2300 for a 3+2 seater reclining suite, after a few months the colour started peeling off. It became evident that there was a problem and even more evident through the following few months when a large part of the sofa totally peeled. We originally took out 'insurance' through CSL to cover us, as we were told at the time, for 'every eventuality'. However, when the chap came out to repair the suite, we were charged £47 which we were told was refundable. WE are still awaiting reimbursement 20 months later. The sofa has further peeled and lost colour - showing a lighter brown colour underneath. It looks appalling and I am ashamed when we have visitors but I explain to them the situation and they have all stated that they will not shop at CSL. We have sent in photos and letters to CSL who are trying to say that it is hair oil!! Utter nonsense and insulting. However, Kylie Penman, Complaints Resolution Supervisor at CSL openly admitted in a telephone conversation with me that having seen the photographic evidence I have sent in to CSL, there is no way that she would be satisfied with the suite in her home and tried to arrange for me to agree to have the suite collected where I would then be able to choose another from CSL. The catch is that they want me to payt 3500 extra for the privilege. NOT A CHANCE CSL. I have sent a letter back to them today which they will receive tomorrow as they are trying the Sale of Goods Act 1979. However, there is a 6 year rule under this ACt which favours the consumer and I will make my next step the County Court as I cannot see a resolution from these stubborn articles to my satisfaction. I will repost here once a reply has been received. My sofa is a Raffles in Old Dollar (colour). AVOID CSL at all costs.
