Like many of the 5-star reviews here, ours originally related to the house finding process.

Our viewing agent was genuinely excellent, friendly, helpful and easy to deal with. After finding our property, we were asked to leave a Trustpilot review, which we happily did because our experience at that stage had been very positive.

Unfortunately, things changed significantly once the tenancy began.

The biggest issue has been Chancellors' No Deposit Residency Scheme. We were told one thing over the phone, but in reality we were agreeing to something else, when we later queried the charges, it took several weeks of back & forth to produce documents showing what they said we'd agreed to. Even then, it was a document we'd never seen before, with different signing dates to other documents they'd previously relied upon, and one that doesn't appear anywhere in our Goodlord portal.

We've simply been trying to establish which contractual documents are true. Instead of getting a clear explanation, we've been sent inconsistent documentation and brief replies that have made the situation even more confusing.

This wasn't an isolated issue either. Alongside repeated upselling of insurance and broadband products (you'll find better deals on any comparison site) and changing contract terms without telling us, it's left us feeling that once you've signed the tenancy, the quality of the experience changes considerably and made us sceptical of everything.

It's disappointing because our first impression of was genuinely excellent. If this review was based solely on the viewing process, it would still be five stars. Unfortunately, our experience since then means I couldn't recommend them overall.

Whenever I've needed to rent out my flat, I've always chosen Chancellors in Henley-on-Thames, and Katie is a big reason why.

Katie has been professional, approachable and supportive throughout the whole process. She kept me informed at every stage, responded promptly to any questions and made everything feel straightforward from start to finish.

It's rare to come across someone who genuinely cares about providing a good service, and Katie does exactly that. Her knowledge, communication and commitment gave me complete confidence throughout, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend both Katie and Chancellors to anyone looking for a reliable and professional letting agent.

The booking a viewing process was quick and painless. We were then met at the house by Hannah Rae. She was polite, friendly and professional all perfectly blended as to make us feel comfortable and “at home”. She guided us gently through the application and to say the least, was fantastic. Our experience with Chancellors has been extremely disappointing from start to finish.
We vacated our property on 22 May 2026. Instead of processing the return of our deposit promptly, Chancellors initially attempted to make deductions by claiming we had caused damage to the property. However, those same damages were clearly recorded in the original move-in inventory. It appeared that they had not even checked their own move-in report before trying to hold us responsible.
Once we challenged their claims with evidence, they accepted that the deposit should be returned. Unfortunately, the delays did not end there. They repeatedly asked us for our bank details instead of simply processing the refund, causing further unnecessary delays.
Now, after weeks of waiting, we have been told that our deposit cannot be returned because Chancellors is changing its internal computer system. We have been informed that we must wait until at least 15 July before they can release money that they have already acknowledged belongs to us.
A company's internal administrative or IT problems should never become the customer's problem. We have fulfilled all our obligations as tenants, yet we have been left waiting for our own money for reasons entirely outside our control.
Overall, this has been an unprofessional and frustrating experience. I would not recommend Chancellors based on how they have handled our tenancy deposit.

My experience as a tenant with Chancellors has been very good. They have been good at communicating and keeping me informed, e.g. about recent changes to tenancy law, while dealing with regular things like contract renewal efficiently. On the property management side, they have efficiently managed things like gas and electric inspections, informing me of what's happening and linking me to the contractor, and dealt with ad hoc issues such as the recent electrical repairs or the new freezer in a timely and satisfactory way. I have always found them courteous and responsive in their communications.

Has gone smoothly so far. And have used chancellors before when buying a property and they were helpful.
