Excellent Service!

My package was slightly delayed due to the Summer Holidays, but otherwise the shipping proxy service worked like clockwork. Will definitely be using again if I have to buy something from France/Europe! &:)

This is my second review of BetweenBox…

This is my second review of BetweenBox on Trustpilot. The first review I left on November 21, 2020, rated at 5 stars following my first experience using their service. I again used them two other times between November and December 2020.

In May 2021 I sent a small package of reusable cloth face masks to Between Box for reshipment to me. The Colissimo rate quoted by Between Box for a package of 200g to international zone B is 47€, whereas Colissimo rates for under 500g is 19.20€ which is over double the public rate.

After receiving the quote, multiple times I emailed, called, left messages on their website and Facebook page requesting that they please review and revise the quoted rate for the Collissimo, at 47€ is unrealistic given the weight of the items to be shipped.

I received my first and only reply from them 18 days later, as follows, and none to any of my subsequent attempts to contact them as their reply did not respond to any of the questions or issues I raised:

"We are really sorry for the inconvenience because we have a difficult contexte with Covid 19 (We are working with a reduced team)
Could you check your order and let us know if you have an issue (For the moment we don't work with DHL but you can use FedEx)"

I felt they held my package hostage until I would pay the exorbitant amount of shipping charges for 200g, and I had no recourse but to pay the full amount as quoted, which I did. I received my package, intact, about 2 weeks later.

I certainly don't have any problem with paying for a reshipment service charge. Obviously, the company has to make its money somehow to stay in business. However, the service charge should be clearly itemized and indicated in their shipping quote and on their website. What I don't appreciate is the complete lack of communication and responsiveness to the issue I repeatedly raised and the lack of any attempt to either explain to me the logic or to find a solution.

I no longer recommend the BetweenBox services and will not be using them again.

DO NOT USE

DO NOT USE. I have used this service twice. The first time the communication was bad but eventually I got my parcel. The second experience has been horrendous. They have had my parcel since the beginning of May, and have ignored all my emails and messages. The parcel is now no longer showing in my account and I have not been sent my parcel. It was quite a rare and pricey item so I cannot replace. I am so disappointed and will not use them again.

Possible Scam

The company received my items and asked for some additional ID documents which I promptly provided. Over 3 weeks later, they haven't replied to any e-mails and don't answer the phone! Avoid them!

Shocking

Shocking. As per the reviews below, I was told three weeks ago that my package had been shipped. Having checked numerous times on the DPD website, it states that the package is still sat in Lyon.

I doubt I'll see the (expensive) package, or indeed the money I paid for the items within.

Utterly disappointed. Would give zero stars if it were possible.

Avoid

I signed up to this service as a possible solution to the issues of Brexit, spurred on by the excellent reviews.
The experience I have had has been dreadful and I may now never see my parcel, which was a one off item from Croatia.
Parcel delivered from Croatia to BB within 48 hours, it then took 2 days to register with them and a further full week to provide a shipping quote. During this time there were no replies to my emails. It was finally posted two days later, but seems to have sat at Lyon airport for days. Eventually today after three phone calls, DPD/Chronopost have said that there was no customs label on it and it will be returned to the sender. They won’t accept anything from the recipient.
I’m guessing I will never see it again and the usual excuses of Covid and Brexit will be used.
Hugely disappointing and costly mistake. Avoid.

Doing their best..worked out ok in the end

2nd and last Update: May 13th

It all worked out. 4 star overall- not perfect but pretty good. Using service like this one involves some risk, and with Covid that makes things more complicated.

The package was delivered today. No problem with custom documentation- the package cleared custom in less than 24 hrs after arrival in the US.

In the end, despite technical problems, Betweenbox was able to deliver what they promise. The package got here safe and sound, and reasonably fast. It took 24 hours to consolidate the items and get me a quote, about 48 hrs after paying the freight charge to get a label, and the package left Betweenbox warehouse 24 hours after the label was created. No storage fee charge for a few days extra of storage, which I appreciate.

I only took one star out for the time period when Betweenbox was having technical problems. Not being able to contact anyone at all during that time does not give me much peace of mind as a customer, especially when the stakes are high like this. When a customer like me has a few items valued at a couple hundred euros and can’t get a hold of anyone at Betweenbox, of course that makes for a very uncomfortable situation not knowing what is going on, wondering if it is really technical problems Betweenbox is dealing with or something worse like going out of business.

Not having any other shipping option during the last 2 weeks except for French postal service is not ideal either. If any problems arised, Betweenbox was not contactable at that time and the French postal service would not answer calls originating outside of France so that created a pretty difficult problem to navigate. I figured out how to reach the French postal service by chat and myFrench is just good enough to get by so I was able to work it out. But that was stressful and not fun.

1st Update, written on May 7th: they update pop up dialogue box on the website every couple days so it looks like they are trying to keep customers informed. They now make Fedex available as shipping carrier so French postal service is not the only option.

May 4th- I got an email response. Took them about 48 hrs to get back to me. (Counting only business days)
May 5th- shipping label created

May 6th- My package departed the warehouse. (I decided to pay anyways just to see, because there is no way the package could leave the warehouse if I don’t pay and worst come to worst I can file a credit card dispute and get it back). After giving it some thought, I realized that if they are really having technical problem their staff would be busy receiving and shipping stuff and answering phone may not be a priority. So I took a chance.

Since April 30th up till now, nobody answers the phone. It seems their phone line is disconnected right now.

They are doing their best it seems, but the situation is not ideal. I would stay away until Covid is over and until they resolve whatever technical problem they have and get their 5 star reviews from new clients.

April 30th - I was about to pay for a shipping label so they can forward my box to me when I log in to their website and found a pop up banner that said they are having technical issues and all packages will be shipped with additional delays.

So I called. Don’t know what is going on. They used to be quick with accepting packages and returning phone calls but now my emails and phone calls went unanswered.

I have a very bad feeling now...

Looks like forwarding companies are all difficult to run well. Stuffs get lost all the time at the other larger companies I checked and I thought I found a gem here....disappointed. Next time I will send to a friend or not buy anything that does not ship to my country. Terrible ...
