**Title: Very disappointing experience with Argos Pay**
I would give Argos Pay 0 stars if I could.
I used Argos Pay with a Buy Now Pay Later plan and found the whole system extremely confusing and frustrating. Despite making payments, I was later faced with deferred interest charges, and I did not feel that the way the interest was calculated and applied was clear or transparent.
I contacted customer service and raised a formal complaint, but after reviewing my case they simply told me that they had made no error and that the charges were in accordance with their terms.
What I found particularly frustrating was that even after paying the outstanding balance of £251.60 to close the account, I was told that I could still be charged additional interest for the period between my last statement and the date my payment cleared.
The whole process has left me feeling that the system is unnecessarily complicated and designed in a way that makes it very difficult for customers to understand exactly what they need to pay to avoid interest.
I have now paid off the balance and requested that my Argos Pay account be permanently closed. I will not be using Argos Pay again.
Very disappointing experience. I would strongly recommend customers make sure they fully understand the deferred interest terms before using this service.
Argos Pay is useless. Card will be going in the bin!
Unable to allocate payments to BNPL. New Day take the payments off the total amount. I'll end up paying interest on the BNPL when I shouldn't. Tried to buy a shed. Never again! Kept logging me out. Found a shed on Wayfair £300 less and 18 months interest free on Klarna. New Day would charge me £400 interest on that. My Argos card will be going in the bin!!!!
New Argos Pay System Feels Designed to Make Customers Pay More
I’m leaving this review on behalf of my mum, as I’m extremely unhappy with the way Argos Pay’s new system appears to be handling her payments.
Since the move to the new system, I honestly feel like customers are being left confused and potentially paying far more than they realise. My mum has some standard credit as well as a Buy Now, Pay Later plan. Her requested payment has been around £16, yet for the last three months we have been paying £90 a month, assuming that the additional money would be reducing the balance on the Buy Now, Pay Later plan.
I checked the account today through the app, only to find that none of the additional payments appear to have been allocated to the Buy Now, Pay Later balance.
What makes this even more frustrating is that Argos' own website states:
“How we apply payments
Your payments will be automatically applied in a way that helps you pay less interest and maintain any plans you have on your account.”
How exactly is this helping customers pay less interest when we have been paying significantly more than the requested monthly payment, only to find that the money hasn't reduced the Buy Now, Pay Later plan as we expected?
Under the old system, we were able to choose where our payments were allocated. The new system appears to have taken that choice away, leaving customers with far less control over where their money is being applied.
From a customer's perspective, this is extremely concerning. It feels like the new system is designed to encourage people into Buy Now, Pay Later plans while making it unnecessarily difficult to understand where additional payments are actually going. Whether that is the intention or not, that is certainly how it feels as a customer.
Argos needs to provide much clearer information about exactly how payments are allocated and why customers can no longer control this themselves. Customers should not have to discover months later that the extra money they've been paying hasn't been reducing the balance they thought it was.
Very disappointing and, frankly, it feels like a system designed to make customers pay more rather than helping them clear what they owe.
Argos pay should be ashamed of…
Argos pay should be ashamed of themselves have used an argos card for years never had any issues with buy now pay 3 months, 6 months etc the app was very easy to use. Made a purchase in June on argos pay and have been charged interest even though my 3 months term has not come to an end yet. Be very careful and check your accounts, spoke to a woman in CS and i have never been spoken to so rudely before huffing and puffing down the phone. Called back spoke to someone completely different and she solved the issue there and then. As i said make sure you double check your payment plan and that they aren't suddenly charging you fees which you should never be paying !!!
Frustrating registration process , then nightmare to make payments !
Like numerous others , since the change over , spent hrs trying to register. When finally managed to speak to a human two days later was informed there had been a blip due to the number of people trying to register . Finally paid my last payment today but that took several attempts , very frustrating. Like numerous others I certainly won t be purchasing from Argos again unless they get rid of this awful company
scum pure scum do not get anything with…
scum pure scum do not get anything with theses scammers they will change your day to pay then say you missed it forcing you to pay bs late fees f this company
New Day change creates an interest trap - no payment allocation control anymore!
Ever since Argos transitioned their card management to Argos Pay (NewDay), the service has become a hidden interest trap. Under the old system, you could choose exactly which BNPL (Buy Now Pay Later) plan or balance to allocate your payments to. This allowed you to chip away at promo balances before they expired.
Now, the new app completely strips away customer control. It forces all payments toward the balance with the highest interest rate first. Because BNPL plans sit at 0% until they expire, the app blocks you from paying them down proactively. You are forced to leave the BNPL balance completely untouched, leaving you with a massive lump sum to pay the moment the promo ends. If you can't clear it all at once on that exact day, you get slapped with backdated interest.
Changing providers should improve functionality, not take away essential consumer features to engineer interest charges. It is incredibly unfair to penalise customers who have the money and the active intent to clear their debts early. Avoid this card unless you want your payments trapped by their rigid, anti-consumer payment hierarchy.
This company is putting people into…
This company is putting people into debt ,I payed off my plan and they still put a £24 interest on me ,without any item being on the statement. They are impossible to get through and will hang up on you if they can’t answer a question.Despicable

wrote previous review re not linking nectar to new argos card and pathetic ai service on website and on twitter facebook.I used to like argos and they were good all round.Since sainsbury threw them under a bus with that new day crap there service plummeted.Anyome who knows newday could have told them .They are mecenaries.Anyhow a rep of argos wrote a reply after i said they were cowards so well done for at least replying. and leaving a name. But please dont trust AI it is just not programmed right and believe me the whole AI bubble will crash soon.It repeatedly lies and gets things wrong a child could do better. And get yourself rid of newday if can and build your good reputation back. You still have alot of goodwill.
If I could give 0 I would
If I could give 0 I would. Terrible app, terrible support and charges that were put on for no reason. Argos app used to be great - since New Day have taken over its a mess. Won't be using it ever again. Will use credit card now if needed. Argos have absolutely messed this up and will lose many customers now.
New Day are useless and scammers . Account closed !

Would give less stars if it was an option. Argos have just lost another customer and I'm sure there will be plenty. Terrible app, being charged interest when I never did with the argos card. AVOID
Awful
Awful, closed my account after years…paid off my balance and then got charged 16p I didn’t know about so ended up with a late charge of £6, paid it as was sick of ringing and assure that was the end. Then got another email this month saying I owed 14p what is going on?!!! I have closed and will never use them again. The app never worked for my anyway as said it was wrong details even when they were given to me by customer service, absolute joke of a company
If zero rating existed that would be my…
If zero rating existed that would be my score, for this dreadful new day company who have ruined the Argos concept of BNPL. Without my consent they have manipulated the payment process and taken away my freedom to manage my account. For years I have used the BNPL system without issue, incurring no interest. Now it seems im in the grips of a digital door step money lender who moved the goal posts.
They should have honoured the agreements already in place. The agreement i made in good faith.
Sainsburys threw us all to the wolves without a care. There must be some way to stop this usurer company New day dragging people down into a debt spiral. BNPL was there for a reason and the methods of New day are morally corrupt. They will have covered themselves legally no doubt, through the constant emails demanding payment 2 weeks before its due, clogging up my inbox and causing me anxiety. Is there no one anywhere listening to the complaints? No one who can stop this digital thuggery? Sadly Argos will no longer have my loyalty, theyve shown none to me.
Argos pay app is a joke
Argos pay is a joke . Absolutely hate how they designed of how to pay. Can't pay money of a certain item .Tried to pay it through my bank ,set up a standing order, the NewDay Company doesn't show up so i cant do that neither. Design it so i can pay a certain BNPL item on the app please or back how it used to be
Absolutely terrible unless greddy company with zero ethics
This is my second review of this uttley greddy, self-entitled bissness. After having my interest increased and then given a frankly vage dishonest generic response and being pammed off yet again, I decided to log in and file formal complaint with the company, wich accounted to nothing more than me getting another generic response letter back.. I've now closed my account and I'm now going to the financial ombudsman for help. I've had enough zero customer loyalty with them.
In all my years of dealing with financial services, argos pay are by far the very worst yet. I will never facilitate any business with new day or Argos pay ever again in my life Steer well clear of this quite frank dishonest, over-priced loanshark style of a company.
Utterly disgusting bissness practices
Horrific since changing to NewDay they…
Horrific since changing to NewDay they have added a £58 random charge to my account? I will be closing my account asap!!
Spent thousands over the years at Argos…
Spent thousands over the years at Argos and due to Argos pay app I will never spend there again. So confusing to login and although states you can pay by card, this is not an option. Feel like it has been set up to catch people out and make it very difficult to pay which would then incur interest at a later date if the plan is not paid in time.
Will never purchase from Argos again.
I used to enjoy shopping at Argos…
I used to enjoy shopping at Argos because the payment process was simple and convenient. Now that everything has been moved online, the whole system has become unnecessarily complicated and inefficient. It has completely taken away the convenience that made Argos stand out.
Because of this change, I no longer feel motivated to shop at Argos, and I will most likely choose other retailers instead.
The person who made this decision is leading Argos in the wrong direction. If this continues, Argos will gradually lose more and more customers, and this decision could ultimately contribute to the company’s decline.
If I could issue 0 stars I would!
If I could issue 0 stars I would!. Did not receive documentation to change me over to Argos pay until late MAY! In the mean time I managed to try and get into the app and sent a random payment n fear of missing one. Was NOT sent a JUNE statement. They do not calculate the account and payments properly. They DO NOt update the credit reference agencies timely either. They have damaged my credit score!. Cannot get hold of anyone on the phone. No one has replied to my communications regarding my account. Will be going to the financial ombudsman about them and suggest others do the same too. They have made this app difficult for the customer to navigate and use with incorrect information and a blatant desire to not want to interact with customers just reap the interest and additional late fees. I can’t wait to get out of my ‘contract with you’ although you have already breached your contract with me! I shall be making sure I tell others NOT to use this company/app.
Buyer beware
Buyer beware
I use BNPL like most people and in my opinion it's a straight forward concept. I think Pay Day loans who have taken over Argos Pay are trying to trick vulnerable customers to become trapped on high interest rates.
In my example, I bought a £500 item on BNPL. I paid of £100 a month with no issues. I bought a different £500 product whislt still in the BNPL time for the first £500 product. This is where the issues begin. You cannot seperate the balances. It is not easy to identify your BNPL end date for each product. I intended to pay the last £100 of my balance which would leave me with my new BNPL purchase. But, you cant seem to do this. Long and short I am not going to buy anything more until I have paid my whole balance of and stick with one product per argos card. I am also going to assume that my BNPL end date is the first purchase because its not really transparent whether this adds on to the original purchase or it is a brand new end date. My advice would be to use a different seller for large purchases as I do suspect that customer satisifaction is not at the top of their list, more how can we make more money, simple trick customers into going over their BNPL dates.
