Everything worked perfect

Everything worked perfect. Easy online booking with competitive price. Super smooth pickup at airport (loved to not have to stand in line and discuss add-on insurance etc). No problems with car and smooth return. Had the final invoice 2 working days later. I would definitely use Arctic again!

Perfect for Exploring the Faroes!

We rented a Honda EV from Arctic and it was an absolute dream! The self-service pickup at Vágar Airport was incredibly smooth. The car itself was spotless, modern, and a fantastic, quiet way to explore the islands. Pricing was completely transparent with no hidden fees. The support team was friendly and helpful. Highly recommend Arctic for a stress-free rental!

Disappointing Experience – Unannounced Vehicle Swap and Technical Faults

For my stay in the Faroe Islands, I specifically booked an electric SUV with Arctic Car Rental. The deciding factor was a special offer for unlimited free charging across the entire island, which was meant to provide financial predictability regarding our holiday's fixed costs. Unfortunately, the actual experience did not meet the expectations set by the booking and the website.

Booking and Deposit:
There were discrepancies regarding the deposit early on. The website stated 2,990 DKK, but after confirmation, 3,990 DKK was demanded. The explanation was that a higher deposit is required for electric SUVs—information that was not on the website at the time of my booking (this was only updated weeks later).

Vehicle Pickup and Support:
The pickup at Vagar Airport via keybox went smoothly thanks to the code sent in advance. However, the disappointment followed at the vehicle: instead of the booked electric car, a petrol car was provided. Since no Arctic Car Rental staff were on-site and no one was initially reachable by phone, I reported the error via email.

In a later callback, I was informed that the electric models had not been delivered and that I was supposed to be the first customer to rent such a model. Although the rental company admitted they had been aware of the non-availability days in advance, I was not notified. In my opinion, proactive communication is to be expected when such a fundamental change to the rental conditions (loss of free charging) occurs.

Conditions and "Upgrade":
The rental company argued that the petrol car provided constituted an "upgrade" according to the contract. In my personal estimation, however, this did not correspond to the originally booked service, as the benefit of free charging was lost and additional fuel costs were incurred. Regardless of this, price differences between electric and petrol variants can vary depending on the market and specifications. From my perspective, the change did not represent an upgrade.

No gesture of goodwill, such as a discount or the waiving of tunnel fees as compensation, was offered. As other rental companies were already closed or had no vehicles available at that time, we had no realistic alternative but to accept the car as it was. On a positive note, the refund of the deposit was processed quickly and as expected after the relevant deductions.

Vehicle Report (Omoda 5 Petrol):
The vehicle itself was unfortunately underwhelming:

Transmission: In my perception, the tuning felt unrefined; during acceleration, it often shifted up first and then abruptly down two gears.

Infotainment & Safety: The system reacted very sluggishly. Particularly critical: during the drive, both screens froze completely, meaning the speed was no longer displayed. The system only rebooted after about five minutes.

Handling: The suspension and general handling felt vague and sluggish, though this may have been due to the Eco setting I selected.

Positive: The features (heated/cooled seats, panoramic roof, lane assist) are extensive.

Conclusion:
Due to what I consider insufficient communication in advance, the lack of flexibility regarding the resulting additional costs, and the technical instability of the vehicle, I unfortunately cannot recommend Arctic Car Rental. Those seeking reliability in the booked vehicle class and transparency regarding costs may wish to look for alternatives.

Small car rental company, big on service.

After our vehicle wasn't available in Kittilä due to a misunderstanding, a quick phone call was all it took, and a very friendly colleague brought the car from Rovaniemi just two hours later, completely hassle-free. Pick-up and drop-off were totally straightforward. The local colleague was incredibly friendly and helpful with all our questions. We even received tips and information about the vehicle and nearby attractions via email. You just don't get that kind of service from the so-called big companies. This is how car rental should be done. We wish you continued success, especially to the entire team.

Great company, always book with them when i come to the faroes. Clean, modern cars, efficient check in and check out. Highly recommended!

Waiting for refund (8 months from booking)

Will absolutely give 0 rating (if it was possible). Booked a car in March 2025 and paid the deposit. Visited Faroe in July 2025 and got an uncharged wifi module with the car.
Got a replacement that still wasn't charged. Was asked to purchase a charger. Why?
Moving on, it's November 2025, we still haven't gotten our deposit refunded (after several repeated emails).
Waiting for a Christmas miracle!

Easy booking - fair prices

Easy booking, fair prices, and automatic return of deposit after deduction of tunnel fees.
The cars however are not new, and the was not cleaned from the previous user(s).

Rental cancellation deadline

4 days before scheduled arrival in Thorshavn we booked a rental car. Unfortunately we had to cancel our trip the next day. Due to the company's cancellation policy, which is a minimum of 72 hours notice before the rental starts, we lost our full payment (620 Euro)
