We had an amazing stay at Chitabe end of March 2023 (2 nights). The wildlife density in the area is incredible - we had multiple leopard, cheetah and lion sightings and also saw a large pack of wild dogs. Our guide Phinley was very experienced and had a ton of knowledge - he did a fantastic job. The vegetation / landscape in the area is also great and very varied - from the open floodplains around camp, to the Gomoti plains area to the slightly more wooded areas (where we also had great sightings). Chitabe Camp itself is also very beautiful, with a pretty pool and bar area and extremely attentive, warm camp staff. We felt very welcomed and everyone made sure that all expectations were exceeded.

Our experience at Hoanib Skeleton Coast in Namibia was absolutely fantastic. The reservation process was seamless and our agent, Malcolm McFadyen, fantastic at suggesting an itinerary that worked for being both exhilarating and relaxing. Once in Namibia, everything from being met at Swakopmund, the air transfers, the welcome at the camp, the food and drink, the accommodation, the smiles and generosity of all the staff, to being dropped back at Windhoek was outstanding. The camp, its environs and the landscapes are truly unforgettable and the programme perfectly judged. We loved the drives with Ben, our guide, including to the coast, and were blown away by his skill at tracking the animals he is looking for, as well as his knowledge of and love for the place and its creatures and plants, great and small. At the lodge, the engagement from the team – led by Tereza – was wonderful. We realise we are (handsomely) paying guests and delivering the service we have paid for is what the team is required to do, but they do so in a way and with a warmth that make it feel not at all transactional. They are very special and their commitment and engagement was precious. Our only regret is we did not have more time and at least some in our family are already campaigning for a return visit to Namibia and Hoanib...

I first contacted Wilderness only wanting a suggestion for a safari camp in a more secluded spot in Kenya- thinking we could book something ourselves directly with a camp. I was blown away by how knowledgable and helpful Angela was in being able to curate a safari experience (with all camps in Kenya, not just Wilderness camps) that was exactly what we wanted. I also realized how foolish it would have been to have tried to do this on our own.

Very very helpful. Best thing about them: I emailed questions at 9pm US CST and I had an answer ALWAYS at 8 am next morning. Usually if I emailed another question in reply, I got an answer back in 20-30 minutes. Very friendly service and they delivered, with quick responses.

Malcolm was very confident and knowledgeable. It was was easy to trust his advice and experience.

We haven't taken the tour yet, but the planning process has been delightful. When we started, my wife and I knew only that we wanted to do an Africa Safari. We didn't know where or when or how long or how much it would cost--literally clueless.
Anneli introduced herself and by the time she was done we have planned what I'm sure will be a trip of our lives. We've traveled fairly extensively, and pretty much know what to look for in an agent. Anneli's patience with my ever changing requests was outstanding. She was extremely flexible in offering options and was always aware of staying around our budget once she advised what it might cost to do all of what we thought we wanted.
I'll have more to say when we return from the safari, but I can't imagine that it will be anything but a glowing review.

Our trip to Botswana, Cape Town, and Rwanda
Oct. 30 to November 18, 2022

Summary

Our 20 day trip from the USA to Africa included six days in Botswana at Vumbura Plains Camp, operated by Wilderness Destinations and Zarafa Camp, operated by Great Plains. In Cape Town, we stayed four days at Coventry Bantry Bay and in Rwanda, we stayed two days at Serena Kigali, and three days at Bisate Lodge, operated by Wilderness Destinations. Every place where we stayed provided us with beautiful accommodations and impactful experiences.

The entire trip was meticulously organized by our contact in London, James Shortt, who, throughout the lengthy planning, was very accessible and always provided detailed answers to my questions. He was very, very helpful. We highly recommend James as a contact for any Africa trip.

The itinerary itself, along with supporting material, was thorough, succinct, and answered any questions we may have had. Every detail was included in the itinerary. A representative from Wilderness met and either escorted us or drove us to our next destination. We never had to worry about how to maneuver the airport or how to get to the sights we wanted to see. The representatives were always prompt, helpful and pleasant.

Each camp in Botswana and Rwanda was amazing. Not only were they beautiful and luxurious, but you felt as if they blended into the local landscape harmoniously, The hotels were also very elegant with amenities and restaurants that exceeded our expectations.

You can be very assured that all the staff, guides, drivers, etc., you encounter an your trip are extremely knowledgeable, professional and accommodating.

Our trip was an experience that has provided us with memories that are priceless. I would most definitely recommend James Shortt and Wilderness Destinations for anyone considering a trip to Africa. You will be pleased.

We told him what we would like to do in Namibia and he put together a fabulous itinerary for us to review with suggestions for accommodation and recommended times to be spent in each location. This was all completed and confirmed within a couple of days. Excellent service!

Just wanted to take a minute and share some kind words about Anneli. I filled out an interest form on the Wilderness website inquiring about planning a trip for my wife and I to Southern Africa for April-May. Anneli contacted me within 24 hours and scheduled a call to gauge our interests and get the ball rolling on scheduling an itinerary that fit our interests. From start to finish with planning our trip she was extremely responsive and helpful. She took a genuine interest in what we wanted to do and see. She is extremely knowledgeable about the Wilderness camps, the different areas in Africa, and the places to visit during the time we wanted to travel. She crafted several itineraries for us and was always happy to make changes for us as we saw fit.

At the same time, we were talking with a planner from &beyond, but it was a no brainer for us to go with Wilderness because of her attentiveness, knowledge, and customer service. She went out of her way to carefully craft a trip just the way we wanted and offered infinite advice about timing, location, and which camp to choose.

We’ve paid our deposit and are fully booked to stay at all Wilderness camps (other than a hotel at Victoria falls) during our stays in Namibia, Botswana, and Victoria Falls and it’s all thanks to her.

In a world where all people do is complain and write negative reviews, I wanted to take a minute to make you aware of how excellent she was and how excited we are to have Wilderness host us on a trip we know will be one to remember. She really blew &beyond out of the water and we couldn’t be more excited for our trip in April.

Wilderness Safaris is highly professional in terms of consulting, presenting the journey (online tool with video and music), communication, invoicing.

Good service, helpful and quick response to all the questions

Well the first hotel in Kigali was okay except we didn’t realise the cheaper rooms were very small. ( but booked by Chris)
Bishops House had only one guest staying so we were the only ones when he left. But excellent place and service.
The driver was excellent.
Overall an amazing trip but we felt it would have been even better seeing Gorillas in uganda as there is more there.
