I was a customer of Contabo and…

I was a customer of Contabo and switched to Webdock due to frequent server outages at Contabo.

On the first day I moved to Webdock, my server was down for 3 hours, and they informed me it was due to a network issue.

On the second day, my server was down for another 13 hours, and again, they told me it was due to a network problem.

For me, this is catastrophic, both for my business and my clients.

I rely on applications that are point-of-sale and accounting software for stores and companies. Having my server disconnected from the internet is a disaster for me and means losing my clients.

Thank you so much for taking the time to write this review. I had to check with my team and investigate what happened here, because we haven't had any general outage of the scope as you describe here - so I suspected this had to have been some misconfiguration which hit your instance(s) specifically. After speaking with the team they told me this was indeed due to some mistake in network configuration which happened in connection with some maintenance our network team was making at the time. Those changes seem to have impacted our snapshot functionality as well, which seems was something that hit you as well.

All I can say is that we sincerely apologize for the issues you encountered. At the same time I must say that this is not a typical incident or mode of operation with us: We really do expend a huge amount of effort making sure that we provide the best possible uptime and stability end-to-end. With that said, human error and Murphys Law does strike once in a while - and it seems you were very unfortunate to be hit by multiple issues all at once which apparently took a while for the team to identify and resolve.

I would like to encourage you to stick with us a little longer as this is by no means typical for our service. In addition, I would like to offer you 1 year free hosting for your server on any profile/platform you wish, and I'd like to extend to you our Managed Service for free for 1 year as well - Managed Service means you get extended and priority support from our team where you can ask us to update, optimize and review your service(s) on a monthly basis.

If you want our help in designing a High Availability setup for your services to prevent any such single incident impacting your mission critical services, please let us know and we will work on something for you.

One of the best server service…

One of the best server service providers in terms of budget, you will not pay a lot and will not commit to any large amounts. In terms of flexibility: you choose what you need and with very small differences: In terms of documents, the one who wrote the documents is professional and cares about the details greatly. Effective chat help

This has been my first support request with Webdock. I clicked on support from the menu on the home page. It was not clear that a chat request would be immediately answered, but it was. I had a issue about not being able to use the "sudo" command. My problem was quickly solved.

The assistance was polite, quick and effective.

Webdock offers extensive documentation. I am not familiar with all the support resources that are available, but if a message board for basic support questions is not offered, I would suggest adding one.

Needs Improvement

I love the fact that Webdock allows users to customize CPU resources. However, there are several areas where this web hosting provider needs improvement.

1) KVM-based servers are usually out of stock.

2) Their LXD servers have virtualization issues whereby apps read incorrect RAM & storage allocation. This can make running enterprise apps with free resource-restricted versions difficult.

A good example is LiteSpeed Enterprise's 2GB free version, which is incompatible with Webdock's LXD servers due to its inability to read the allocated RAM.

3) Webdock doesn't permit pre-paid and debit cards. Most banks outside North America and Europe assign customers these cards instead of credit cards. Still, Webdock can't explain why they don't support pre-paid/debit cards.

4) PayPal is supported but you have to round up your bill to the nearest figure to settle payments. For example, if your bill is $8.50, Webdock demands you deposit $9.00. This is ridiculous, even if the $0.50 difference will be deposited in your account.

5) You're only given 24 hours to settle your bill on the due date, usually on the first day of every month. Sometimes, payment methods can fail. Good luck if such an incident occurs on a non-banking day, like weekends and holidays. Webdock will destroy your server, and there is no room to recover it.

Most hosts allow up to 3 three days to settle payments. I may not stay longer with this host.

Thanks for your replies, but kindly be soft on your tone when replying to customer reviews. It doesn't hurt. Quite unnecessary braggadocio from your replies to other customers' complaints, including mine.

Now, back to your response.

1) I remember this was in March 2024, when I couldn't get a KVM server in any location. Support informed me that I should keep retrying and that I might get lucky when customers cancel their plans.

I kept retrying between April and June 2024. Luckily, towards the end of June/early July 2024, I managed to secure a KVM server.

2) Last time I checked, around July 2024, LXD servers were still there. Support wouldn't even offer help here but suggested that I opt for KVM. It's good to know that you've removed LXD servers from your products.

3) The problem is that credit cards have maintenance charges, unlike pre-paid and debit cards, making them costly to hold. Still, the fraudsters can mask pre-paid/debit cards with PayPal and continue with whatever activities they wish. Heard about stealth PayPal accounts?

4) My issue is not about depositing less than a dollar. After all, the minimum deposit you've set is $5.00. My issue is paying exactly what I'm being billed and not being forced to deposit more than what you're charging me.

5) My bad. Maybe you can improve on this statement in your email reminders to capture what you've stated. I do apologize for my comment about this.

"We will automatically retry this payment in 24 hours. We will try to process the payment 4 more times. If you do not react and we cannot complete the charge, your server(s) will be stopped and you will not be able to restart them. Furthermore, you will not be able to provision any new Webdock servers."

Thank you for taking the time to create this review deewinc! But.... Did you actually check if what you are writing here is correct? Because, most of these issues have not been an issue for a while now :) let's go through the list:

1) Not since we launched our DK datacenter back in May have we been sold out of KVM. If you get a sold out message anywhere, then it's only because you still have access to our "deprecated" Canada location, which is indeed pretty much sold out, but which is not available to the majority of our customers nor any new customer

2) There were some virt issues with LXD which has since been solved. A reboot of your instance should sort it out if you still see this, otherwise contact support. Besides, we don't offer LXD instances anymore :) all new servers are KVM always and there is no longer any way of creating new LXD instances with us unless it's from an existing snapshot in your account

3) Too much fraud happens with these cards. They are a favorite with criminals and abusers in order to hide their identity. There are so many ways of legitimately paying for our services, that we do not see these types of cards as being essential. With that said, we are looking into improving and updating our payment engine in the near future

4) We have no real response here to this complaint. It clearly seems as a pain point for you that you cannot deposit less than 1 dollar/euro and hit exact amounts, so that has been noted and we will check with our devs if there is some logical reasoning for not allowing decimal amounts. Maybe rounding issues? In any case, thanks for the feedback

5) Absolutely false and we are really surprised you think our billing works this way. It would be super helpful to hear from where you got the impression that this is what we do... Are our billing reminder emails worded poorly? Because the actual logic is that you get 5 whole days before anything happens, at which point we do a "soft" intervention by stopping your server, but where you are still permitted to start it. Then after 2 whole weeks overdue, we stop again and this time block you from starting the instance. The after one and a half MONTHS :) of retries, an actual human reviews the account and only then is anything deleted.

So yeah... Really not sure why you think we nuke instances after a single payment failure. That would be madness! :)

Amazing price to performance ratio

This is by far the best hosting provider I have used for my servers. I have now been a customer since June 30th, 2023, and not a single time has any of my servers faced any downtime. The support is always nice and ready to help, and by far this is the best price-to-performance ratio I've ever had. It's cheap and very fast.

Webdock haves the best of 2 worlds, is affordable and the servers really work. Also, they have an option to have a free SMTP included in the server, no one gives you that for this price or even for more.
