Great hire company!

We just came back from 5 nights in our VW campervan which we named Goldie Horn as she was bright gold in colour. Had a fab time! All clean and worked well. Great little van. The water tap didn’t work but was told this is an issue with the VW vans as the plug can come out while driving. As no one is on hand to answer on a weekend I would make a suggestion to put the fix on your website or a little card or sticker in the water storage cupboard so people can see it and fix it themselves. We got used to not having water over the weekend and stayed in campsites so wasn’t a major deal, just a little annoying. Apart from that, great service from booking to collection and drop off. I highly recommend booking with this company, it’s a fab service and we will definitely hire from here again.

I booked a 7 day motor home with Sharon Charter at Vaaroom Ltd, and have to say the service I received from her and the company was absolutely fantastic. This was the first time I'd even considered a motor home break, but wish I'd done it before! Sharon talked me through the the whole process, offered advice on everything from Pick up on day 1 through to the return of the vehicle. I would have no hesitation in recommending Vaaroom to anyone thinking of planning a trip and will certainly be contacting her again in the future.

Terrible experience and high risk safety concerns

Unfortunately, approximately one hour after collecting the motorhome, we experienced an engine fault which caused a significant loss of power. The vehicle became unsafe to drive and was only capable of travelling at around 35mph on the motorway, forcing us to pull into motorway services.

We immediately contacted RAC for assistance and were repeatedly advised throughout the night that help was on its way. However, despite waiting stranded for many hours until approximately 3:00am, nobody attended. We were left in extremely difficult conditions with a child and a dog, in unbearable heat, and had to keep the engine running for air conditioning to make conditions manageable.

After waiting all night without assistance, exhausted and concerned for safety, we made the decision to drive the vehicle home.

As a result of this situation, we have lost two days of our holiday. We are exhausted, distressed and extremely disappointed. We have also paid for holiday activities which we are now unable to attend, and these costs will not be reimbursed.

Following receipt of the RAC report, we became aware that this engine issue has been recorded on three previous occasions within the last month. Also the two front tyres were bald and therefore not road legal. This raises serious concerns regarding whether this vehicle was suitable and safe to be hired out.

We were then expected to wait until the vehicle was fully recovered from our home, further delaying our plans. This whole experience was very distressing and totally unacceptable.

Edit to add: WhatsApp messages were replied to after 9am in working hours the next day, not outside of working hours as suggested.

The RAC report clearly states the same issue as last time and for the 3rd time. Also that osf tyre below 1.6mm with photos and nsf on 1.6mm with photos.

Yes a van was offered for replacement, but only after we asked. Which was too small, and my husband was very concerned due to our experience to even try to make things work.

Yes a refund was made, 6days later. We in the meantime had to cover additional costs to continue our holiday in another vehicle, pay for hotel stays and loose out on 2 days of holiday and lost money on planned activities. No attempt at any compensation was offered. Just a sorry the RAC failed you and we’ve never experienced this before.

Thank you for your review, and I want to sincerely apologise again for the experience you had. We completely understand how stressful and upsetting this situation must have been for you and your family.

We would like to clarify a few points and also explain what happened from our side.

All of our hires include one of the most comprehensive RAC commercial breakdown packages available, specifically to ensure our customers are supported in situations like this. Unfortunately, in your case, RAC did not meet the expected standard of service. Based on our investigation, it appears a third-party recovery contractor was used who was not properly equipped for a vehicle of this size, which led to delays and incorrect handling. This is something we have formally escalated with RAC, as this level of response is not acceptable.

We did respond to your messages outside of working hours via WhatsApp and offered the only replacement vehicle we had available at the time, which was our Nomad Grand campervan. As this vehicle is very popular, it is rarely available, and unfortunately it was the only option we had on site that day. We understand it may not have been suitable for your plans, but we did try to provide an alternative solution as quickly as possible.

Regarding the vehicle condition, the motorhome had been at a Fiat dealership shortly before your hire for a known airflow sensor issue. The required parts were replaced, and the vehicle was tested and cleared for use. The comments suggesting repeated unresolved faults are therefore not accurate.

In terms of the tyres, we take safety extremely seriously. The tyres were inspected and, while worn, were still within the legal limit (approximately 1.7mm in the centre and over 3mm on the sides). That said, we have since replaced both tyres as part of our routine maintenance.

Despite the circumstances being largely outside of our direct control, we fully accepted responsibility for your experience. A full refund was issued immediately, along with our sincere apologies, as we recognise the impact this had on your trip.

In over 4 years of operating, we have not experienced a situation like this, which is why we are taking this matter very seriously and working closely with RAC to ensure it cannot happen again.

If anyone has questions or would like further reassurance about how we operate, we are always happy to speak directly and provide full transparency on our processes.

Once again, we are truly sorry for the inconvenience caused and the disruption to your holiday. We did everything we could in the circumstances to support you and resolve the situation as quickly as possible.

7 day motorhome hire.

We hired our motorhome through Varoom after finding them on Google and Indie Booking, and overall the booking process was smooth, hassle-free, and very convenient. We were contacted by Sharon, our host, who was lovely, responsive, and accommodating to our needs throughout.
One area for improvement would be communication via phone. We struggled to get through using the provided numbers (0330 403 51 64 / 0204 548 6961, option 1), and it wasn’t clear if the lines were actively manned. While email responses were fairly prompt (usually within 15–20 minutes during working hours, or within the day), we would have preferred the option to speak to someone directly.
We hired “Sharon’s Cappuccino,” a Fiat 6-berth Weinsberg CaraHome 600 DKG. The driving experience was solid—manual diesel, ULEZ-compliant, and reliable across a 1,377-mile journey through the Scottish Highlands. My husband (a professional driver) noted the auto start-stop feature, which helps fuel efficiency but can feel slightly inconvenient in slow traffic.
The motorhome itself is well-equipped and practical. It comfortably sleeps up to 6, with bunk beds at the rear and a large overhead bed above the driver’s cabin (which we used and found very comfortable). Bed sheets were provided, though we brought our own bedding.
Key features we appreciated:
Effective heating system (up to 30°C), great for colder weather
Functional control panel for water pump and heating
USB charging ports while driving, plus 3-pin sockets when plugged into mains
Compact but practical bathroom with a detachable shower and cassette toilet (easy to empty and transport)
Gas-powered kitchen with 3 hobs, fridge/freezer (which stays cold while driving), and generous storage
Included essentials like fire extinguisher, first aid kit, and full kitchen utensil set
A couple of minor notes:
No chopping board included in the kitchen set
Clothes hangers not provided
We didn’t use most of the kitchen equipment as we brought our own
Overall, this was a great motorhome experience with a well-maintained and thoughtfully equipped vehicle, plus a very helpful host. With some improvement to communication when calling the provided phone numbers, the experience would be even better.

As you can imagine, this isn’t just something affecting us—many businesses in customer service are moving away from phone-based support because so many processes, such as card payments, document authorisations, and insurance handling, are managed securely online.

These steps need secure systems for sending documents, receiving approvals, confirming details, and processing payments through protected links, which helps keep everything accurate and traceable. For a Family run team handling around 40 guests a week, relying heavily on phone support would mean adding 5 staff members just to answer calls, rather than actually resolving queries. Unfortunately, even with our current setup and as a family-run seasonal business, we barely made any profit last season.

Our customer portal is designed to make things as smooth and straightforward as possible, so all paperwork and booking management can be completed online. That helps us respond efficiently and keep everything organised for you.

Fantastic and great communication

We had a fantastic experience with Varoom after finding them on Google.

The motorhome was clean and had everything we needed making our trip comfortable and stress-free.

Have been using Vaaroom for a number of years now. Sharon has been incredibly helpful and always been flexible when coming to multiple bookings and guided us through all the optional extras with transparency and recommendations. The team at the Essex depot are incredible and will 100% be using them for other trips. One stand out benefit is the flexibility around booking and rental dates and not having to be tied into a 7 day hire if you only need it for a couple of days. This is a stand out benefit over other hire companies.

First time motorhome rental

Myself and my partner went with vaaroom after a lot of research of different motorhome rentals and im very happy we did. I collected the van from the romford depot before heading down to Devon. It was our first time having a motorhome holiday and it was a fantastic experience. Highly recommend vaaroom. Good value for money and a very easy well informed process. Everyone at vaaroom was very friendly and helpful throughout.
