Recent Issues, Fall from Grace, Top 10 % Participant

I have a lot I could say but will make it short and sweet I have been a member of UI and have completed 100+ studies since 2019 with little to no issues. Big issues have begun in Dec./2024, finished studies not paying out, customer/participant support fails, researchers/fully booked and confirmed studies rescheduling or canceling last minute with no recourse (if participant does this they are highly penalized with a "no-show" label). They could easily fix these issues but they refuse to do so in a timely manner or at all. Keep notes and keep close track if you chose to get involved with this company.

SCAM - Run away

Run away. userinterviews.com is a scam. I had real money taken from me by a researcher, and User Interviews / UserTesting, Inc. did absolutely nothing about it.

As others have reported, I completed two interviews where my attendance was never marked. I have been emailing the researchers and UserInterviews (UserTesting, Inc.) for over a month, and the researchers are simply ghosting me. User Interviews just stalls, repeatedly replying that they are “investigating” and that the researcher must be on holiday. Based on my experience and others’ reports, I will likely never be paid.

Even worse, during one hour-long interview, a researcher made me purchase a flight with my own money, promising that I would be reimbursed along with the incentive for my time. Neither the reimbursement nor the incentive was ever paid. I have been contacting the researcher and User Interviews (UserTesting, Inc.) every day for over a month, and User Interviews still does nothing.

UserInterviews (UserTesting, Inc.) is organized thievery and a clear scam. There’s a real chance you could lose your own money, and an even higher chance that you won’t be paid for your work.

Aggressive sales and a lot of fraud

I use this platform sporadically as a researcher. First I want to reflect that their sales can be aggressive. Hounding with emails even though you tell them the team is still thinking about what we need and also called me out of the blue on my personal phone and when I questioned where they got it, the person just put a phone down on me. Thank this person for incentivizing me to give this review.

As a researcher using this platform this is what i observed. Their platform is not doing a good job at indicating percentage of suitability according to a screener. If someone is dropped from the screener after one question (highly unsuitable), their score is something like 97% fit, just like someone who gets one question wrong but scores 10 right. This leads to more manual screening of unsuitable candidates who really should just be scored 0% so i don't even bother.

Their paid ad on feature of matching to roles is a joke. I have used it but would bet roles so far apart from those I am targeting. I never got a good answer why this is from their support rep.

There are a lot of fraud participants and they drown the platform. You cannot email participants after they are screened unless you pay for this feature and this is essential because some guess screener questions. I find that emailing to confirm they have experience they stated weeds out the frauds but this feature is extra $$. Why?

Why does it cost more to recruit B2B people when the platform is self serve and full of extra ad ons I have to pay for like being able to target according to demographics and you do nothing to filter the people who hit my screener.

Their competitor Respondent at least has a better suitability score so you can quickly see who did not answer your screener correctly.

Finally, they do have some good participants that I wanted to contact again, but almost never was able to even after sending emails and not sure what happened there. Flagging fraud has also been problematic as they reps will argue things are not fraudulent even when info on profile doesn't match an associated linkedin page (fraudulent participants will link to legitimate linkedin pages of other people) or person told me they are in the USA but clearly isn't.

Advice: you need to clean up your platform. And stop monetizing everything. Emailing participants is a must, not a extra feature when you have so many people on the platform who lie.

arbitrarily screened out even after doing the full requirements of tasks

they promote that you have to sign up right away as it's first come first serve, but even if you do the tasks (which are xtremely specific) and complete things, they can deny you funds as they will find some way to not pay you for your efforts, time and energy/heart in the matter - they really are not caring about you the user and why you are participating in the first place.

Unpaid research participation – No effective participant protection

I completed a 1h30 research interview on this platform run on behalf of a large, well-known company (Bluehost). The study was fully completed, and I provided detailed answers throughout (video interview).

After completion, the researcher marked me as a “no show.” and did not respond to my messages.

I then provided screenshots and evidence of my participation to User Interviews which refused to process the promised incentive, stating that attendance and completion are determined solely at the researcher’s discretion, with no independent verification or meaningful appeal process.

In practice, this means a researcher can collect insights and withhold payment without consequences, even when evidence is provided by the participant.

I invested significant professional time based on a guaranteed incentive advertised by the platform. The experience revealed a serious imbalance of power and a lack of participant protection.

I would strongly caution professionals and consultants against participating in studies on this platform.

It proved to have no respect for your time and value.

User Interviews works UNTIL it doesn't

EDIT - Jan 23rd, 2026

After extensive back-and-forth with User Interviews support, it was finally confirmed that the researcher did issue payment on December 22, 2025. Because this was the first time I’d ever been paid directly by a researcher (rather than through the platform), the incentive email was missed in my inbox.

However, the core issue remains valid and important for other participants to understand:

The study never showed as “Paid” in my User Interviews dashboard. STill to this day 1/23/26

There was no platform visibility that payment had been issued.

After I followed up, the researcher became unreachable.

Support did not identify the issue for over a month despite repeated, detailed outreach.

Had the platform accurately reflected payment status, or had support identified this earlier, this would have been resolved immediately.

That said, I want to be fair: I’ve used User Interviews extensively over the past year and have earned over $1,000 on the platform with mostly smooth, timely payments and positive experiences. This issue appears to be an outlier case caused by poor visibility and slow support rather than the norm — but when something does go wrong, the lack of transparency and escalation paths is a problem that should be addressed.

I’ve been using User Interviews regularly for over a year and have earned $1,000+ participating in high-quality research for corporate researchers. Until recently, payment was always fast (often within 24–48 hours of completed research), and I consistently received excellent ratings from researchers.

That’s why this experience has been so disappointing.

I completed a study on December 18, 2025, which is clearly marked as “Interview Completed” in my account. It is now January 21, 2026, and I still have not been paid.

What makes this worse:

- The researcher became unreachable after I followed up with them.

- User Interviews support provided conflicting explanations and missed their own promised payment deadline.

- I’ve spent nearly a month doing my own follow-up and documentation while being told to “be patient”.

- Only after repeated escalation did they claim to be “investigating” a month later — far too late.

I’ve never had to chase a researcher for payment before, and I’ve never experienced this level of unresponsiveness or lack of enforcement from User Interviews.

The platform works until it doesn’t — and when something goes wrong, participant protection and accountability appear to fall apart.

I’m still waiting to be compensated for completed work.

You won’t always get paid what you’re owed, and there’s nothing you can do

As others have noted, be wary because their T&Cs do say that the researchers are allowed to refuse to pay you for your time (for any reason) and there’s nothing that UserInterviews will do about it.

I spent 2 months following up about a payment I was owed, before the “support service” finally admitted this.

I also note that all of the 5* reviews on this website are clearly fake. Make of that what you will..

User Interview No Payment For Study

I did a study with an AI company called Sago through User Interviews two months ago. They have ignored messages I've sent them and not paid me what was advertised. Don't engage with this firm if you value your time.

Awful

Taken a study well before Christmas and haven't been paid my incentives yet! The deadline was 19 December....Customer service is ignoring my many emails and that is that.

Most screeners are unpaid research

When you have a good match, it's a very interesting experience. I have been in some 1h+ interviews that were great conversations and I managed to go in depth with the researcher about what they were working on.

The issue with this platform is that a lot of the screeners go way beyond what a screener should be. Some are ridiculously long and start asking pages and pages of very detailed information, brand perception, purchase habits. Eventually you realise they just use the screeners themselves for the research.

There are also many silly offers of like $2 that there's no way to filter out, so I keep getting studies I'm not interested in.

Most times I have been paid as promised, but I recently had a study that said it would take 15 minutes, but turned out to be 30 minutes of me recording videos. In the end, the researcher didn't check it as completed. CS promised to chase, but never replied.

Overall, it's a mixed bag. I check studies that promise to pay well, but if they start asking too specific of detailed questions I just drop them halfway when it gets obvious you're doing the free research and not the screener.

Incentives never received

Ridiculous I never got the “incentive” for the survey completed. It’s been weeks since I wasted 30 min of my day speaking to the researcher via zoom. They don’t bother responding messages and UserInterviews won’t do much about it. I would make sure you do interviews with a reputable researcher that’s using the in-app incentives and not their own outside the platform. Sucks UserInterview won’t protect users from these things!!!

Viel zu wenig Einnahmen nach einem halben Jahr

Nach kaum mehr als einem knappen halbem Jahr muss ich sagen es hat sich nicht gelohnt mich bei allen Studien zu bewerben. Da ichnur einmal zugelassen wurde und das waren am Ende nicht mal ganze 9Euro.

Daher sinnfrei und brauche ich keine weitere wertvolle Zeit in solche Webseiten zu investieren da es sich nicht lohnt fuer mich.

Es gibt weitaus bessere Optionen um etwas nebenbei zu verdienen aber es kann ja sein das es bei anderen mit den Daten besser klappt..?!

Das Auszahlen und alles weitere gingen ja gut aber was bringt es mir insgesamt wenn ich zu wenig einnehme im Monat.

Don’t waste your time

II have been using user interviews and received a couple of gift cards or gift links. This particular time I did a study in November about a diabetic device. I didn’t receive my incentive after I finished so I sent an instant message to Support I later forgot about the incentive. However, when I went to go check, it said I did not show up. I no longer trust this site. I did what was asked and did not get compensation as of 12/26/2025

Don’t use User Interviews!! Their company is Trash!!

User Interviews is Garbage to say the least. So many times after applying for a study, I get approved and then go to complete the session and then the link doesn’t work. I’ve reported it several times and they don’t do anything about it and the support manager just sends back rude toned emails. They waste your time, they don’t pay you on time or will find a reason to not pay the whole incentive.
Userinterviews also has a D+ Rating!! That alone speaks for itself and the terrible Customer Support manager “Sarah D”

You are not always guaranteed…

You are not always guaranteed incentives pay, I did one research and that researcher paid but when other researchers don’t pay the company user interviews are no help, they should have a back up for when the companies that use them don’t pay the people, it’s been over a month and one researcher has not paid me when it was supposed to be up to 14days, I reached out to support more then 3 times and nothing has been a successful response. I will make sure to spread the word for people not to use them
