BEWARE!!! My friend and I booked a Viking trip, laid $1000 to insure the trip. After the pre-cruise, we boarded the ship. I developed a terrible cough and fever. The desk sent me to ER on 2nd day. I never got out of bed, ate very little, could allow the staff to clean my room. We disembarked for post-cruise tour. I was then diagnosed with double pneumonia. I never got out of bed except to visit ER, then doctor everyday. I couldn’t fly home for days after “trip” ended. The additional hotel, doctors, taxis and medical expenses cost $3500 above the $10,000 trip. My friend spent most of the entire trip taking care of me.
I submitted 52 documents to TripMate. I had to repeatedly call them. My nightmare ended in being reimbursed less than $700. Viking eventually sent both of us $1500 vouchers but although I have been in many, I was too afraid to risk another trip. I thought we had insured a VIking trip. TRIPMATE claimed everything was provided for me, if I couldn’t take advantage of it, that was my problem. I don’t understand why Viking would be affiliated with this company. I won’t use either again.

Due to an unexpected and serious cardiac problem I needed to cancel an ocean cruise with Viking. Viking was excellent and refunded 50% on 6/16/26, 2 days after our cancelation.
The remainder was to be paid/ by TripMate. They proved to be the polar opposite of Viking. They denied the claim multiple times and each time I would appeal and forward additional documentation.
Each time I submitted documentation it would put the claim back to the end of the review queue.
After multiple calls with Viking they finally paid the claim on 09/22/26.

I would give them a -10 if I could. Completely left in the dark. Claim has been open for 4 months and still not closed. I've complied with every request expeditiously. It even went to "special investigation" for some reason. Still waiting for an outcome, and apparently there are absolutely no humans that can do anything about it to get me an answer or speed it up.

TripMate is a fraud! After cancelling a major trip in June 2026 due to pending back surgery, (which was 7 months after sending them $2518 in November 2025 for the September 2026 trip), they refused to refund ANYTHING.

I filed for a refund in June (95 days before the departure date) and was sent in circles without ever speaking with anyone (which I requested repeatedly). Filled out doctor's forms multiple times, received only form letters, a denial and closure of the claim.

Net effect-- They took my $$ and provided me with nothing!!! Never went on a trip, got no coverage and was scammed out of $2518. Had I not bought the insurance until much later I would have avoided them absconding with my $$.

Recommendation to all-- Don't let these guys take your money, supply nothing and screw you over.

9/25 update-- Been in contact with TripMate. Trying to resolve. Stay tuned.....

Trip mate throws in a nearly impossible hoop to jump. Trip mate requires a "physician's statement" to be completed in event of injury on a covered trip. It says it must be completed be the "attending physician." Think about it. If you are treated by a doctor, say in port, how are you going to get the "attending physician," who may be in China, to fill out that form? Trip mate says that form is required. That hoop seems intentional given Trip mate insurance is for when you are on a TRIP, thus away from home. Do I smell something fishy here? Any attorneys out there?

I had an issue with getting a letter stating my husband and I were insured for my travels to Spain. They had the incorrect N31 instead of GR430 coverage, which I we paid for and would not be insured. Faye from claims follow up, called me and she got everything straight out. I received the letter needed for my travels.
Faye really went above and beyond to resolved this issue, there should be more like Faye.

I really wish I could leave no stars tripmate is the worst company ever and in fact don't ever book through Apple Vacations as well I booked through them they convinced me to get insurance through tripmate I saved receipts when I got stranded and Curacao for six additional days I saved your seats for a car rentals apartment rental a hotel rental restaurants and stores I have the receipts for everything on the way to Vacation my flight got canceled I lost a whole day at that hotel did not get my money back for that then my flight got canceled on the way back and it cost me more and tripmate is giving me the runaround apples give me the runaround do not ever purchase insurance through them and do not ever go through Apple Vacations because they will not help you ...

I'm going to reply to that comment since some reason it's not letting me I'll just add to here no you don't help I've called a million times and every single person I've talked to said they cannot help me and won't help me your company is trash and I hope nobody purchases trip insurance from you because they will not get their money back

So far horrible...they have denied/closed claim without notice, are not accepting documents and not timely. It's been 3 months for a pretty simple scratched bumper. I don't think they have any intention to pay! Claim 7602023. Going to place more negative reviews throuout internet. After this review, I was contacted and issues were resolved quickly!

Just wanted to let you all know that we had travel insurance through Trip Mate On our trip to Barbados back in February. My wife had a heart attack the second night of our stay and ended up spending 2 weeks in the hospital in Barbados and then 2 weeks in Florida for Triple bypass surgery. We filed a claim and received absolutely nothing from Trip Mate. They said they did not receive proof of the heart attack and we did not get any money back from our trip. We provided documentation over and over from the hospital in Barbados and from the hospital in Florida. We did not get one dime back!! This company is a joke as far as I am concerned. We had that trip planned 2 years in advance and they could have cared less. Just to get our money back for the cost of the trip would have been enough but no they kept saying no proof. What a joke!! Please choose other insurance if you are going on a trip. You won't get a damn thing from Trip Mate. Thank goodness we had excellant health insurance and my wife has recovered from the heart attack and triple bypass surgery.

I didn't want to give you even one star. I've been asking for a refund on a medically cancelled Viking Cruise for almost three months. Company sent vouchers for future trips, but my husband will never be able to make such a trip again. Delay, delay, deny, delay, deny.....only one agent, Guy, offered to request refund, but I haven't heard from him in a couple weeks. Very upset.

I have already contacted the claims folks, and while they said they would call back, I've yet to have a call. This was last week. More delay, deny, delay, deny....

Don't do it. Have them show you claims they have paid. It feels like being robbed but you cant call the police. Save your money.

they do not honor claims. this company are are thieves. stay away.

I incurred pretty sizable loss due to a delay as well as having to purchase new airfare to get to my final destination. TripMate was remarkably awful to work with. We're beyond 8 weeks of back and forth and 6 partial payments. They aren't asking questions back for clarification but rather just underpaying and labeling the payments with vague and confusing descriptions. If I weren't advocating for myself here, I'd be out over $4,000. I will scream it from the rooftops to avoid this company and their unethical practices.

Trip Mate, is a total rip-off. They charge a lot but then they "fine print" you out of most of your claim. I got sick in Tunisia and it cost me $2,000 in expenses but they only paid me $135 -- only after a big struggle. And they demand arbitration but if you lose (and you will) you also have to pay their costs. Avoid Trip Mate like the plague! Use Allianz instead.

When I bought Trip Mate insurance, I was under the impression that I could just relax and not have to worry about anything bad happening on my trip because Trip Mate had my back. Turns out that I should have read the pages and pages of fine print. Trip Mate did NOT have my back.

Is there anything I can do to get redress from Trip Mate? Apparently not -- unless I want to hire an arbitrator and spend more money fighting for relief than I had lost. Catch 22. So frustrating.

Time from my submission of all required documentation (surgeon’s signed form) to money in my account - 14 days.

Time from being advised claim approved to money in my account - 1 day.

All done on-line with full payment by bank transfer.

We had a trip to a Sandals resort scheduled for June 2026 and had to cancel due to a death in the family. TripMate decided that the family member wasn’t close enough to count and denied my claim. We were not reimbursed for the plane tickets which is all we requested. This is a scam and I warn you to stay away.

Insurance ( cost over $2,000 )was purchased through Viking ( 1st mistake). Plane from Anchorage was delayed then cancelled . Viking failed to rebook. I had to purchase flights home(1200) plus transportation.(133) Travelmate provided a total reimbursement settlement of $71.00 and they we happy to announce such a generous settlement!!! Travelmate should be investigated for fraud

If I could give less than zero stars, I would. This company is awful. Do not purchase insurance through them. They do not pay claims. I have contacted the insurance commissioner and BBB to file a complaint against them.

Exhausting, working for six months for a simple claim. They would tell me about missing documents which were already sent and uploaded! Require a statement from Medicare that I was not reimburses which takes 60 days and it’s known that Medicare does not reimburse for overseas clams. One required document wa from my doctor who would not fill it out, I don’t think he writes in English! I decided to send his email in German. Finally my claim was accepted. The email with acceptance did not work to get payment so they said they would mail a check. Days later I found out they had an incorrect address! Hoping to receive my check in 2 weeks. I had pretty much given up. I do not recommend them
