Whitefield club

I was a member at Total Fitness Whitefield for 5 years and the only reason a remained a member was because it was at the end of my street.

Upon entering the club you will receive the coldest greeting from the reception staff. If they make eye contact with you then you should consider yourself honoured.

The equipment will usually be filthy with the cleaners chatting away to the other members off staff.

The equipment is quite often out of order, and once something is broken it tends to be a recurring issue.

Overall the club does not create a good atmosphere for taking your fitness seriously. It feels like a social club with some bits of gym kit in it. If you are looking for a gym in Whitefield Total Fitness is the best location but that's all it's got going for it. Avoid.

Lincoln Branch.
The Lincoln Branch has two floors. The upper floor has east facing windows (no blinds), so gets very hot. Any Air Con or Air Blowers that keep the place cool are left switched off. There are portable fans in the summer but these are removed by staff to use for private lessons. Downstairs there is a smaller gym. Since Jan 2022 'Squad classes' take place here. As a result equipment is commandeered by the staff for this class. They drag out a large speaker that the whole gym are forced to listen to.
On the whole the gym equipment itself is old and often broken.
The male changing room is adequate but is lacking in benches. Some of the benches are pushed together and so some users will use two benches for themselves. If you seperate the benches, staff put them back together again.
Often the changing room, toilet and shower areas are dirty and lack soap. There are signs to say that the showers are temporary running cold. Apart from one week, the showers have run cold since mid 2022.
The main pool is excellent. The hydro pool is cool and has lots of debris in it; mostly sand and small black items that I can't distinguish. Its possible the main pool is the same. Until recently this area was also dirty. The Sauna and Steam room are good. There are classes in the small pool. Once again the large speaker is wheeled out and played at full blast. The whole poolside/hydro areas have to listen to the distorted music.
The music is played from a mobile phone and so I assume the individual owners have a music licence.
The staff in the cafe area are friendly and welcoming. The rest of the staff are often somewhere in the offices or taking a class.
The gym as a whole feels cold and un-welcoming. A gym that's run by the staff for the staff.
In recent years there have been surveys; however there has never been any feedback and nothing changes so I guess the managent must be happy with how things are.
Why do I still go here? because its the only large gym within walking distance. Compared to other gyms in Lincoln I would say that Total Fitnesss no longer represents value for money and would not recomend it.

went to enquire about joining for my wife & myself the price went up by £5 /month because I am 66years old
where is the pensioners discount they advertise.
when questioned on this beckie's response was more or less take it or leave it

My 17 year old son signed up for a 12 month contract at £25.00 a month a couple of months in to the contract my son turned 18 and they have emailed him his membership will now be £52 a month !!!! I have rang and emailed numerous times without much joy the guy who signed him up has now left as my son asked him the question if it would go up and was told no. Avoid at all costs there is nothing in the terms and conditions to say this would happen it is just a rip off how can a price double during a 12 month contract????

Went for an intro/induction at the wilmslow branch with my sister. Booked in with Lewis. We turned up early and we were told to wait on the cafe. We ended up forgotten about and Lewis went home! I lovely girl showed us around. Whilst being shown around a lady walked out of a class complaining that their teacher hasn’t turned up for the class and no one had told them (not great). After the tour I decided to use the facilities and came across two spin bikes with no pedals… Safe to say we haven’t joined up. It seems it’s all just a bit of a show. What’s worse is we gave our feedback and got ignored 👍🏼

The Wrexham branch of total fitness used to be very good around 10 years ago…
Now it’s full of dated, worn equipment, poor use of space on the floor resulting in no space in the free weights area but massive gaps all over the gym floor where space isn’t utilised, groups of teenagers allowed to train together hogging machines while they go on their phones and vape. It’s just a shambles when you think it’s the best part of £50.
Management don’t care either because they’re just head office puppets and ‘yes people’.

Very poor customer service. Gym is run down and doesn't reflect it's price point.
Only joined this gym to use the functional equipment but now half of it is cordened off to be used for squad sessions that requires an extra payment and even get asked not to use other equipment as PT's or coaches want to use it .
A dedicated area is set up for squad sessions but coaches don't use it and take over other areas of the gym making pre planed training almost impossible. Non of this was mentioned when we joined feel like we have been completely miss sold a gym membership.
Water fountains not working for days and not offered an alternative.not what you expect from a higher priced gym so disappointed with this place and it keeps deteriorating each week won't be renewing our membership much better quality,equipped gyms at a better price in the area.

I tried my free trial today and for the price they charge its absolutely ridiculous. There is too much free space and not enough equipment to use. I found it to be not very clean which I was disappointed about as there were members of staff just standing around and messing about with each other which I thought was unprofessional and to top it off I used the toilets and there was no toilet paper in 2 cubicles I tried to use. Overall not a very good experience at the gym.In times that are hard I think that to charge £49 a month and £20 joining fee is shocking I also tried JD Gym and my experience there was delightful and they had loads of different equipment and they charge half the price of Total Fitness so anyone looking for the best gym in Preston don't join Total fitness and join JD instead

I worked for total fitness a few years back and it was great. Customer focused, relaxed and felt like a community. Over the past 12 months or so they’re so focused on selling selling selling extra products like PT, squads and whatever else to squeeze more money out of their members. They have screwed over all of their freelancers by chopping back classes to line their own pockets and now struggle to keep some classes going because no one wants to work for them. Devaluing their customers and devaluing their staff. Lifeguards should not be on poolside longer than 30 minutes. At total fitness lifeguards are on shift for a full 8 hours which includes a 30 min break and 15 break. Not right at all. I struggled to pay attention half the time and poolside temperatures got me lethargic. Getting fitness instructors to do maximum workload for minimum wage, getting them to teach classes on shift and not paying them any extra. Leisure attendants manipulated into staying until 12pm midnight on minimum wage and if they don’t they’re told they’re not team players.

Posting this on behalf of myself and all my work mates who have either left or still stuck there.

Rubbish place to work and rubbish for members. A once great company now another greedy sess pit

Very poorly run and extremely bad customer service. Unfortunately, we've signed up for 12 months, so can't leave until August, but we certainly will be. We joined mainly for the pool, which was closed for 3 months from October - December - no compensation or anything. Don't even attempt to call customer service because you'll be on hold for hours - they never answer. The class times are awful and just not a pleasant place to go and workout. So expensive for what you get.

People smoke e-cigs everywhere and get no sort of punishment, kids playing on gym equipment, and long-running staff are ignorant. Swimming pools are mostly filled with kids swimming lessons who DONT pay anywhere near the membership price of £60 a month yet take up most lanes and most likely fill the pool with urine, a large amount of the parents are ignorant also. The lifeguards are barely present, when they are they are talking and not monitoring, they also allow people to walk through the pool area with trainers on, which regularly leaves dog crap on the floor where people walk bare footed. I could go ooon and oon about how poorly this place is operated.

After 10 years of the gym standards falling, I will not be renewing my membership this time around.

Farewell, and good riddance. If I ever knew a lazy and greed-driven company.. it is Total Fitness.

I have tried to cancel my membership 4 times now and have still be charged! I have spoken to customer services but they say they will get back to me then continue to ignore emails and then send more emails that get ignored! Very frustrating

Don’t go near Whitefield gym.

Not only is it unclean (chewing gum and heavy dust on studio floor). Showers a disgrace. Staff rude. No care of members. Classes cancelled when you turn up. Unqualified instructors allowed to conduct classes. They are ruthless and I’ll never step foot in there again

I’m very dissatisfied and disappointed with the service I have received from
The sales team. Having most of my family members join total fitness and paid upfront for a whole year. Myself and my daughter wanted to become members too. Having heard that every total fitness facility has different standard levels we wanted to take advantage of the free guest pass before joining.

Upon speaking to the team members Joe and Amanda, I kept getting transferred from one to the other person without being informed they will transfer me over to somebody else, I had explain the same thing over 10 times as if they didn’t listen the 9 previous times I explained that I have applied for a guest pass with different total fitness way more than 24 hours prior, but the Whitefield being the main gym of use I wanted to try that one instead. first having spoken with Joe he ensured me he understood what I have explained to him and told me to just submit a guest pass right now with him and that he will book me in for a try of the facilities, I did mention I wanted it to be today. He was meant to call me back, he didnt, I called back instead, spoke to Amanda-Zabiela who again transferred me over to joe which I didn’t see the need as I just simply want to be booked in asap I don’t understand why is there such a problem, I did what Joe advised me to do but then upon being transferred to Joe once again he behaved as if he didn’t remember our initial conversation and without any warning transferred me over to Amanda who was very ignorant of what I was saying to her and asked me to explain the same thing many times again. The customer service is appalling. You have two potential clients who want to join and pay 12 months upfront to save money and this is the way you treat them.
Good I found out about this appalling service before I joined. I will be going elsewhere. It’s better to pay a little more but get the service you actually expect to receive. Pure gym seems to have better customer service than you. Disgusting

Total Fitness Wigan absolute disgrace allowing gangs of young teenagers causing havoc in the pool and in the hydrotherapy pool, members leaving, members not going into the pool as being totally intimidated by these youths and what is their punishment getting moved to the small pool. It is supposed to be a gym not a creche for young teenagers whose parents will not say no to them. I would suggest pay extra and go to a proper gym where they look after their members.

Avoid this gym Preston branch is terrible. Broken machines, penalty tickets for car park, swimming pool is close now for few weeks there’s is no money back for it, the gym is a joke.

I was adamant when I joined the gymn in Preston that I only wanted to swim, yet less than 3 weeks in I get an email to say they are closing the main pool for two months. Feel totally conned. They will not let me cancel either and cannot go for two months. NOT HAPPY AT ALL WITH THIS COMPANY! THE POOL HAD ALREADY BEEN CLOSED ON ONE VISIT, SEVERAL EMAILS WERE NOT REPLIED TO AND MY SESSION WITH A TRAINER CANCELLED. NOT A GREAT EXPEREINCE HERE.
