I joined TSOP to learn more about how to take landscapes, so today I left my long lens in the car, because I must admit wildlife is my passion, and took a walk through some woods to see if I could manage to take some bluebells.
For once in my life I used my tripod and experimented with multi exposure and then merged the images in L/R and I am absolutely delighted with the result. So thank you Marc for your brilliant courses, which are so very easy to follow, allowing me to broaden my photography genre.

1 – Please give a general comment on The School of Photography.



I initially searched for an online course and focused mainly on prices. there are plenty of cheaper courses out there but with hidden prices and the content of the website was not to my liking. I then came across TSOP. It was slightly more expensive than the one's I've seen but your site gave much clearer information on what the courses included and you also advertised a physical address which helped me in deciding whether you were genuine or not. The one thing that made me join TSOP was the sample lesson you provided! It was so down to earth and simple to follow.



I then decided to purchase the year's subscription after looking at the reviews and was extremely surprised to see the amount of content you have. I absolutely love the courses and cannot recommend this enough to friends and colleagues. And the price, well. I think you can charge twice as much considering what you are delivering (New members only of curse). So, thank you for being out there, I have learned so much and continuing to do so!!

What has The School of Photography (TSOP) done for me?

Prior to joining TSOP I thought I knew about photography and how to utilise my camera. It’s now clear to me that I didn’t…

In the three or so years I’ve been a member of TSOP, the school has improved my knowledge of photography, the quality of images that I now produce, and my technical knowledge of how to use my camera settings to such an extent I’m left wondering if it was just pure luck that I relied upon to create images.

I’m now able to produce images that I’m proud of, that aren’t just created by sheer luck but my understanding of these settings, and using new techniques that I’ve learnt by following the TSOP courses. I now know what I did to create these images and how to repeat it in the future.

I have a growth mind-set and through TSOP I’m able to continue to be challenged and step out of your comfort zone to keep learning new skills & techniques. I see my camera as a tool for me to enjoy the timeless beauty of the natural world, a reminder to me to pause, breathe, and appreciate the world around me.

TSOP's best bits:
- The variety of online, self-paced courses that are available.
- The Monthly assignments. They challenge me to extend my photographic skills
- The live Q&A presentations. These present a photographers skills and techniques, and answer questions from us TSOP members. I learn a lot from these presentations and they are very enjoyable.
- The occasional field trips that Marc goes on!! They are great source of knowledge & inspiration.

I would happily recommend this beginners course to anyone starting photography, I teach photography at a local camera club, Ive recommended this to a number of members who want to work at their own pace. Its nice and simple, easy to understand with short videos taking you though the stages

I did a photography course a few years ago, level one and level two, but since then I haven't really used the camera much,

But now I'm retired, I thought I would do a refresher course.

The school of photography is by far better than my college course was.

I really enjoyed it all and there was a lot that I hadn't learnt in college.

Having just returned to my hobby of photography after a number of years, I was looking for an online resource that could help me refresh my knowledge, and then continue to build my skills in practice. The School of Photography fits the bill perfectly, with a great range of courses, brilliant tutors, and an active (and friendly) online community. I've just completed their Beginner's Course to brush up on my core skills, and am looking forward to starting work on some of their other courses, as well as trying out the monthly assignments, and learning from the photos shared by other members. As I work full-time, having all of this available online means I can learn at my own pace, and it's so much easier than trying to find a local camera club. Thoroughly recommended.

My local photography group, started for beginners, folded, so I was looking for a community where it covered all ranges, and all walks of life. I was thrilled when I found TSOP, as it was exactly what I was looking for. Not only did it cover the basics, but it also covered some of the more advanced areas, and also post production methods (Lightroom/Photoshop).

TSOPs Lightroom/Photoshop courses gave me a head start on how to work in both, which was light-years ahead of a similar course I tried last year, at my local college. I am looking forward to getting my teeth into some of the more advanced courses, once I have had time to assimilate and inwardly digest the primer/basic courses. The price-point is spot on at less than 3 (london) pint's for the month's membership. I especially like the acceptance and friendly critique provided by Marc in his monthly project setting/reviews, and of the community at large.

I have found the course very helpful , as my main reason for joining the course was to improve my photography skills and what better way than to start from the beginning .

The Best bits for me has to be the pace , I can stop and start as my time dictates , there is no rush . Also everything is explained in a way you take in the information. Both the practical and theory

I have learned so many things about how to use my camera correctly that i just wasn't aware of. Thanks again, now to put what i have learned into practice

I’m enjoying the beginners course & being a member. Having a camera has been like learning to drive. How on earth will I steer/brake/indicate etc all at the same time? But now with a competent instructor I’m understanding so much more and beginning to be more in control of the camera, & plucking up courage to post a photo. Thankyou. Ps the discount code was very beneficial.

I came across TSOP on Facebook. I have been looking for something to help me understand Photoshop for a long time. But most courses were intimidating and expensive. The way TSOP Photoshop course was offered seemed user friendly and at a reasonable price.
So far the PS course is exactly what I hoped it would be. It is well presented and starts at a very basic level. Everything is clearly explained so that even a technophobe like myself can understand and even enjoy using PS. I am only 1/3 of the way through the course but already feel my confidence and understanding growing. All too often I have found PS instructors do not explain the very basic things as if they expect a level of knowledge. This has left me feeling lost and confused and increased my feeling of uselessness and inadequacy. This has not happened with this course which is excellently presented by Marc Newton. I can feel my confidence growing and can see how simple things will relate to more complicated edits in the future. I have already recommended it to a fellow camera enthusiast looking to develop their PS skills.

The content and teaching methods at The School of Photography are first class. It’s a great asset to be able to watch an revisit subjects that I struggle with.

I have been watching The School of Photography's videos and Marc Newton explains topics very naturally and with fun also.

I have found someone at last that I can relate to and learn Photography from.

I have enrolled on the course and brought the book from amazon and can't wait to get started, I know I am on a huge fun learning curve with his approach.

Please keep up the good work, and keep those inspirational videos and tuition coming.

I am very impressed with TSOP. I bought my camera (a Canon Rebel T8i) about 18 months ago. I tried reading the manual, following YouTube videos, etc, but still felt like a stranger to it. TSOP is perfect for the way I learn best. You explain how photography works and how each setting works. Your scaffolded approach is gentle and easy to follow. I am finally learning what I've wanted to know about photography and my camera.

I like the concept of covering such a wide range of applications in one place. As a self taught amateour photographer, I found the camera, Lightroom and Photoshop tutorials particularly useful and enhanced my productivity. Not to mention the other tutorials on the site which deals in more specific "how to" lessons.



The most enjoyable aspect of the tutorials is the methodical division of each tutorial into chapters with step by step instructions on completing each one. In addition to being able to download photos to complete the tutorials, all courses have detailed course notes covering steps taken in the tutorials which are an excellent quick reference guide.

I would just like to say what a year for it was last year 2023 with TSOP. I have been into photography a few years but did the beginners course happy I did, so much I had forgotten and now doing other courses
I would like to say a big thank you to Marc Newton for his comments on my photo in the frame within a frame assignment, It really made me happy but also gave me the confidence to go out and do more with my camera. Mark and the TSOP team also answers your questions if you get stuck on a course.
I would recommend TSOP to anyone with or without photography knowledge. Great value for money.

I received an annual subscription as a gift. However to access my gift, I had to provide my credit card to the school of photography. In my option this is not suitable as a gift when the person receiving the gift has to provide their credit card. Clearly this is a tactic so an auto annual renewal can be taken from the card.

Firstly, wow - thank you!! I have done a course before but it felt rushed and we went straight to full manual and I never felt I fully grasped some of the concepts. Your layered approach to learning works!! This has been a great consolidation, plus helping me master some of those things I didn’t quite understand before. I am enjoying this course so much - thank you! I am going storm chasing in the USA in the Spring and this is going to increase my confidence in taking photographs immensely. Thank you again.

Just wanted to drop you a message to let you know how much I’m enjoying the course at the school of photography. I’ve just signed up recently and I’m loving it.

I work in education and constantly send a message to the staff that teachers need to be able to take something that seems really complicated or complex and be able to explain it in a way makes it seem so simple to understand and that helps people remember!
