Sometimes it can be 3 months before you receive anything.

And out of all the vinyls I have received I have only like about 3 of them the rest are just unknown crap that nobody else wants.

Small company trying very hard

I purchased a 3 month subscription to The Retro as a Christmas present to myself. The records I have received have been well considered, and not too obvious. Not all have landed with me, but that's the point! They are more or less all things I wouldn't have found otherwise, and are all different and sonically interesting. They also helped me out with a refund when I accidentally let the subscription renew, which I unfortunately couldn't afford. They have a customer service WhatsApp, and respond in good time. The Facebook 'swap shop' for subscribers who aren't keen on some of the selections doesn't seem to be very active, but that's not really the company's fault.

Let's get it right. Per some other reviews, the company is clearly struggling. Following them on social media, they are open about the fact that they have had to go back to working full time on other things, and have had issues recently with procuring stock, resulting in delays with people receiving orders as they mainly have to do it on evenings and weekends. Indeed they will often post videos of them in the small hours trying to package things up and get it all on the way. Naturally, this can be a little bit frustrating, but it is not for a want of trying, and I would strongly recommend going in with an open mind and helping a small business with owners and staff who clearly care deeply about what they're doing to survive and get back where they want to be.

Don’t do it!!!!!

I chose this subscription after reading up online the various companies that offer this service and I couldn’t be more disappointed. Still waiting for Decembers records to be be dispatched, well I say dispatched that means that they are sat in someone’s car waiting to be sent to the post office. Then cancelled the service but they took my money anyway. So far I’ve paid £140 and got 6 records!!! I would suggest it would be more advisable for anyone considering this to GO TO THE RECORD SHOP and pick your own stuff.

Whatever they might have been, the word 'scam' now comes to mind

Placed an order for 6 months subscription for my son for Christmas. £222 taken from my account 12th December. No confirmation, nothing, so I chased. And chased. And chased. Website went down. Phone number down. No response to any comms inc Twitter message. I assume they have gone bust, yet they still email their offers. Whatever they might have been, the word 'scam' now comes to mind. Just don't bother.

Go elsewhere, save the hassle.

Took my money, that is the last I heard from them. Ordered paid via Paypal, got an email from Paypal confirming the info.
Waited a week, chased for an update, and provided the order number and Paypal transaction ID. 2 days later nothing. No parcel, no email, no reply, no tracking number.
I would not use these guys again. Missed a birthday present, and then I hoped it would make it for Christmas but with no response at all; I gave up.

Don’t subscribe

Been subscribing for over a year last 3 months website been not working prop and not received any subscription for two months followed up with Customer Support “Derek” who assured me they will send a delivery nothing arrived and no response now I can’t cancel my subscription so had to speak directly with my bank to make sure no more payments are taken - I wonder if they are even trading any longer ??

Unprofessional subscription service - do not use

Ordered a 3 month subscription. 1st month came late. 2nd month didn’t arrive. 3rd didn’t arrive. Followed up with the company. They could see there had been an issue. No apology. I cancelled subscription renewal. Was contacted to ask why that was. Advised that I still hadn’t received the previous 2 months yet and could they update me. They could see there had been an issue. They would follow it up. Still waiting on receiving goods.

Another terrible online subscription service...

I tried The Retro after having a mixed experience of another vinyl subscription (VinylBox).
The Retro was also cheaper at £35 instead of £44 but you get what you pay for.. my first box never arrived and when I chased I was told there was a backlog - eventually it turned up. mediocre albums I could have picked up at the car boot sale, blindfolded.
Just received my second box on the day the payment for the third box came out. The box content is terrible - 3x used vinyl's including a soundtrack from the 80's of a film no ones ever heard of. The condition is also terrible - 2 have illegible spines so you don't know what they are when stored with the rest. I feel like the 5 star reviews aren't real because how can some people have a 5 star experience across multiple deliveries and some have a 1 star experience??
I've messaged them for a refund on my third box as it's just a waste of £35.

No delivery. No response to email.

Apparently my order was shipped 7 days ago but I haven't received my first oder. I have emailed The Retro but don't have a reply. I was excited to subscribe to The Retro but I can't give a positive review because I don't have my order.

So so bad. Can't believe they're still in business

I don't write reviews, ever really. But my experience has been so shambolic, and with so little effort to care or rectify the situation on their part, that I had to write something.

Ordered a 6-month gift subscription for my husband in December. The first one arrived before the 25th - and I thought, great, so far so good. One of the records didn't match the sleeve, but otherwise, a nice selection, nicely packaged. So far so good.

But January came and went - nothing. No email, no apology, not a whisper. I emailed twice and didn't get a response. Kept getting an 'out of office' that said something about Christmas holidays - in February?! Towards the end of February I finally get a response saying the second box is about to be sent out and should have more records in it, to make up for the missing box. They say something about covid and staff shortages but they don't apologise. At this point I'm thinking - ok, fair enough. One missed box given covid isn't too bad. But they could have at least given me some sort of voucher to make up for it, or some apology of some sort. Nothing. And, surprise!, the second box only has three records. So no catch up there.

March comes and goes. It's now April. I finally had a third box at the start of April, again with only 3 records. I mean... I'm actively not getting what I paid for, even a month late, let along on time and 'monthly' as advertised. Chasing up this gift subscription has become a full time job. They always say, oops its been sent out now, and then it turns out it hasn't. They now say they don't have enough stock of the genres I ordered. Well, why on earth advertise them then?! Some of the excuses I've had so far: covid, staff having covid, stock shortages, human error (quite a lot of that it seems), a 'system' issue, communication problems with the 'shipping team',... The list goes on.

I've given up asking how they're going to ensure this doesn't happen again. Because they really don't seem to care at all.

This could be great little business. If you're lucky enough to get any deliveries, that is. Don't do it - it's not worth the hassle and you won't get what you paid for.

Thanks for your review, and sorry to hear you’ve had such a torrid experience with us. I’ll hold my hands up and say we had a genuine cocktail of disasters with prepaid orders around Christmas time, and there have been genuine issues around staff and COVID too.

Bad Bad Bad and still Bad

Have had one box delivered from a 3 month subscription I gifted to my dad. Got the first one early. Second one delayed, due 3 weeks ago still not arrived and now it’s caught up with the 3rd box delivery. Shambles

UPDATE:
After I posted this the owner got back to me to explain the various covid issues he has had as a business and said he would rectify asap. The second box was despatched the following week only to find that even though this was only the second box to be sent it had a duplicate record from the one and only box that had been sent in December. I mean even after contacting me on WhatsApp and leaving a message for me it’s still a mess.
I’m spending time administrating a gift I bought for someone in December and it’s now March and it’s still wrong.
Peter, I’m struggling to be sympathetic. Did you even look at my reply message to you on WhatsApp???

Thanks so much for your review- it's good to get feedback, even candid 1-star feedback like this. I have been made aware that an email I sent out outlining that February boxes had been delayed severely as a result of myself (owner) catching COVID and my staff being required to isolate due to the laws here in Scotland- did not make it's way to all affected customers. You might have been one of them.

I have had plenty of situations as a business owner where I've dropped the ball, but I want to ensure you that we had a full 10-days off within the office, coupled with 2 scheduled staff holidays. I myself spent most of last week personally picking and packing boxes to make up for the shortfall, and whilst I am *so* frustrated that some orders will now collide into March shipments, it's one where I have to hold my hands up and say it's been a cocktail of delays I could not have predicted. Even my backup (aka my family, small business life) caught COVID so could not assist either.

I'll drop you a line tonight to see how/what I can do to make this right for you. I get that curated records (and gifts) should be faff-free, so I'm sorry you've had this experience.

Do not please buy from this scam !!!! I was gifted a 6 month subscription by a family member and not only does the "Tracked" mail fail each time you try to search the tracking number they supply (It is not registered mail ) I am still waiting on the first two boxes that they sent me .Then when it gets sent out there aren't 5 comics only 3 .When the family member asked for a refund the owner of the company gets back saying that they will get on to staff to fix issue completely ignores the valid refund request as no goods where supplied until today and wrong quantity of good where supplied .Do not waste your money on this you will regret it completely .

Hey Dean- hope all is well with you, and I'm sorry about the below par experience you had with us. I will be checking after this reply to make sure you have had a full refund. There was no intention of me to ignore your refund request, more of a panic that a new staff member had made a mistake with your order, due to me not double and triple checking as I should have.

We are a small, growing business and I hope you can understand we don't always get it right, but always strive to make things right when we do make a mistake.

Finally, I will do some due diligence on our tracking, as processes are in flux at the moment, particularly with international shipments, but all of our shipping should at a minimum have a confirmation of delivery and/or where a parcel is to collect.

I will be in touch with you soon to confirm we got you all sorted out. My apologies again for not being more on the ball with my ops team causing the error in your first shipment.

Terrible service

Terrible service, paid for 2 months subscription service so far and received absolutely nothing; website won’t let me cancel subscription and customer service don’t respond. Terrible!

I will be looking for any 'Louisa's' who ordered in January to see if I can find out what's happened to your subscription. In terms of operations, we had some delays due to new team members and a shortage of stock. In terms of cancellations and customer service, we have had a pretty robust 2 day tops response time and you can cancel subscriptions online, but I will dig into your case specifically to right any wrongs in this situation.
