Childcare Programme - Sri Lanka
I did the childcare programme with The Mighty Roar Sri Lanka and loved it. Chamo was so lovely, helpful and welcoming. I loved working with the children at the schools; we taught them letters and various English words and it was great to see their progress over my time at TMR. I met so many lovely people at TMR and will miss Sri Lanka!

All the staff are so lovely at the…
All the staff are so lovely at the mighty roar. Working at childcare was really good but lacked a bit of structure. You have to get yourself involved as you aren’t told how to help the children. However the timetable is one of the best programmes because it is 3 hours in the morning for 5 days a week so it’s the same routine everyday. I really recommend doing The Mighty Roar. Everyone makes friends very quickly and it is a lot of fun!

TMR Sri Lanka incredible all rounded experience
Really had the best two weeks with the Mighty Roar Sri Lanka. An all rounded experience. I did English Teaching and Childcare which was so incredibly rewarding, the children were so excited to interact. A big part of that was thanks to our team lead Chamodi . She was incredibly supportive, always approachable, and gave clear guidance that made everything run smoothly. The TMR Sri Lanka also created opportunities for volunteers to socialize and take part in activities which were great, met the best people here. The grounds are also very nice. Sucha a lovely experience, the whole TMR Sri Lanka team was so kind, always wanting to help us out, a special mention to Kavi, Tharu and Uncle Karu, who made the experience so warm! Could not recommend more

It was amazing
I spend time on the Sea Turtle Program and the Childcare program and I had the most amazing experience on both. Both Tharu (the leader of the Sea Turtle Program) and Chamo (the leader of the Childcare program) were so kind and caring and made sure that each volunteer were okay and answered any questions that they might have. They both honestly made my experience so much better as they made sure that we had a fun time. I’ve had the most unreal 5 weeks and I am going to miss it here so much and I could not recommend either program enough. It was also a nice place to stay as the staff here were so caring and the food was good.

Unforgettable experience at the turtle program Sri Lanka
I spent a week volunteering at the turtle program in Sri Lanka and it was truly a once in a lifetime experience. All of the staff were incredibly friendly, welcoming, caring, and knowledgeable making you feel comfortable straight away. They always go out of their way to help and make you feel at home. There are also daily activities planned, so there’s always something fun to do and the turtle experience is incredible.
A very special thank you to Tharu the leader of the turtle program, who was wonderful. She couldn’t have been nicer and is amazing at what she does. She is always smiling, constantly checking in on everyone, and genuinely cares that you are having the best possible experience. She works very hard to make sure the turtles are well cared for. She goes above and beyond to help with anything you need and makes everyone feel welcome and supported. Her kindness and positive energy really make the whole program so special.
A huge thank you to Tharu, Chamo, Kavi, and all of the staff for your kindness and for making this such an amazing unforgettable experience.❤️

My experience with the Mighty Roar was…
My experience with the Mighty Roar was amazing.
I was volunteering with the street dog ptogramme and the Mighty Roar dog sancutary.
Postives about this program -:
- You have the ability to get involved in so many different things and get to meet different people from all different backgrounds and countries.
- There are always fun activities going on.
- I got first hand experience in helping to feed, provide water and medical care to local street dogs and the sancutary dogs.
- Kavi (dog programme leader) is open minded, hard working and happy to take other people's suggestions on board to help improve the care provided to all dogs.
- You get to immerse yourself in the Sri Lanka culture. It truly is a beautiful country.
- The staff and volunteers are friendly.
- The food was delicious.
- The street dogs are so lovely and absolutely loved it when the tuk tuk came round for feeding time. A huge highlight on my experience.
- I became unwell during my stay and was admitted to hospital. Kavi (staff) stayed with me at the hospital and helped with translation so I got the medical care I needed. Beyond thankful to Kavi. 100% get the TMR insurance. They covered the hospital and medication costs.
- Was taken back by the difference in care for dogs in Sri Lanka compared to the UK. I soon adapted to this and found myself sharing my vet nursing knowledge and skills with staff, volunteers and some local people. So happy procedures are now in place by the dog programme lead to improve the standard of care.
Not so positive points (being honest) -:
- The programme at times felt unorganised in the sanctuary but improved before I left and there are plans for things to keep improving which is amazing.
- Mosquitos are a pain in the ass. Take good repellant with you.
- Need more dog programme volunteers. The duties are done faster and smoothly when there are more people to share the work load.
- The hygiene standed wasn't great in the sanctuary but I know from being there the standed is improving.
If you love animals (especially dogs) then I highly recommend volunteering with TMR and help enrich all the dogs lives for the better. The programme needs more dedicated and hard working volunteers. You don't need a degree or loadd of experience to volunteer with the dog programme. You get plenty of experience when you are there.
Have an amazing time if you do go.

Incredible experience doing diving…
Incredible experience doing diving conservation beautiful reefs, efficient training and conservation work that you can see the difference in. Kyle and the team were amazing and incredibly helpful. However the planned weekend trip did not offer meals as previously stated but gave us money which in some places was not enough but was still a very good trip, I would recommend planning your own as the local team are very helpful and will make the process incredibly smooth.

I did the Amakhala programme in South…
I did the Amakhala programme in South Africa for 3 weeks and really enjoyed it, however there was a lack of communication when arriving at the reserve about what we would be doing day to day. Once you got into the swing of things this was fine but just a bit confusing at the start. The staff (Justin, Folley and Reeva) were so friendly and welcoming. If you don't like working in the heat/sun this programme is not for you. There's lots of physical work in hot weather and little shade, but if you're looking to work and help with conservation then you'll love it. There's a good variety of jobs and activities, and a paid for excursion on Fridays. I loved my time here but also recognise that it's not for everyone.

J’ai fait 5 semaines de volontariat avec the mighty Roar au Sri Lanka. J’ai eu la chance d’essayer beaucoup de programmes comme le médical, les tortues, les chiens et avec les enfants. C’était une expérience incroyable! Les habitants qui vivent dans le lieu de vie sont d’une gentillesse incroyable! Personnellement, j’ai adoré tous les programmes mais j’ai eu un coup de cœur pour le programme avec les chiens qui se déroulait avec Kavi. Mais bien sur tous les autres responsables comme Tharu, Chamo,… étaient supers. J’espère pouvoir revivre ça un jour et venir revoir tout le monde!

4 weeks with TMR Sri Lanka doing childcare
I spent 4 weeks volunteering with TMR Sir Lanka doing the childcare programme. All of the local team, especially Chamo, were very kind and welcoming. The childcare programme was fun and the kids were lovely. I met some amazing people and really enjoyed it. I would definitely recommend it.

I had the best time in Sri Lanka. The local team made my experience so special. Both Tharu and Chamo were lovely. I could not wish for better people to help me through my time there. They were both very helpful and would help me out whenever I needed. Tharu always made sure to check on me and see how I was doing. My time with tmr would be completely different without her. I have just finished 4 weeks in Ghana with TMR and it has honestly been some of the best weeks of my life. Dinah and the team are very welcoming and make you feel at home instantly. This was my first time travelling solo and I couldn’t recommend this programme more. I did the medical volunteering and everyone at the hospital is very friendly and eager to help you learn! The time spent outside of volunteering is full of activities and the staff put in a lot of effort to ensuring you have a good time. Everyone in the community is so lovely and it was an incredible experience.

I have had the best 4 weeks at mighty roar Sri Lanka. All staff has been accommodating and welcoming. I did 3 weeks Sea turtle which was such an unreal experience releasing sea turtles and then 1 week Childcare. I am definitely going to do another mighty roar.
