Mighty Roar Sri Lanka
I had the most amazing two weeks staying at The Mighty Roar in Sri Lanka. I spent one week on the Sea Turtle Conservation project led by the lovely Tharu who was so supportive and kind and one week on the childcare project. I have met the most amazing people during my stay and will cherish my memories and experiences forever. Thank you to all of the staff and I would 100% recommend the project to anyone thinking of going.

Unreal Experience!
My experience with The Mighty Roar has been amazing, I joined the diving coral restoration team in Bali and they helped me complete my Padi whist I was there. Kyle was a massive help along with all the local guides and they're all great guys in general! I thoroughly enjoyed my time in Tianyar, Bali with the company and I can fully recommend to anyone.

Incredible, unforgettable experience in Tianyar.
I had the privilege of spending 4 weeks at the Tianyar accommodation. Where I achieved my PADI open water certification with the help of the extremely amazing team in Bali.
From the moment we stepped foot off the plane to the last day at the programme - we had the most amazing time and I could not fault a single aspect. Anyone worried about travelling so far, and volunteering on your own/not knowing anyone - there is no need, you become part of a family ever so quickly and leave behind a place that you have bonded with immensely.
Nothing was too much trouble for the team, they made sure we were looked after at all times - whether that be food when the majority of the volunteers left for weekend travel, laundry help, taxis to/from destinations around Bali and just overall being such an amazing team.
I took part in the Diving conservation program with our dive master Kyle - who made the whole experience for us. Even on some rough weather days, and strong currents - we knew we were safe and still had times that we will never ever forget. From not even knowing the first thing about diving, to 4 weeks later being so confident and having a new passion - all thanks to Kyle and the team incl. Nova, Komang and Dandaa to name a few of the great locals.
Overall, TMR has been such an incredible experience for us - a home away from home when we were 7,000 miles away. We made some life lasting memories and it would be a pleasure to return one day.
Thank you to everyone over in Tianyar, I am so grateful I got to be apart of something that is actually helping the environment and for making such amazing memories, and friends to last a lifetime !

Volunteering in Busua, Ghana
The people that we met, the local team in Busua and our fellow volunteers were great. The village of Busua will live in my memory forever, the community spirit is so strong and everyone is so friendly and happy, it was an inspiring time. I've been home for a week now but still think about the people everyday. The accommodation and food was as advertised, it was adequate and fairly basic but that was expected and reflected in the price. The team on the ground really made us feel welcome and were always there to help whenever we needed it.
Our volunteering in the school would have been even better if we'd had more of a brief and had been more structured. My class teacher was not present for most of the time and I am not a professional teacher. I used my initiative to teach the class their lessons, which went as well as I could have expected but I had no support. I could imagine that other volunteers may have given up at this point. We were told that teachers did leave the lessons before but after experiencing it, I feel more should be done to prepare and support the volunteers. After all, it's really the children that suffer. However I gained most personally from the bond that I made with class P4.
Overall this was a great experience and Ghana will always be in my heart.

What an experience
I’ve had an amazing time in Sri Lanka on the turtle programme. I’ve buried eggs in the hatchery, saw turtles laying eggs on the beach, and released baby turtles into the sea. The best experience. Tharu at TMR was so helpful and friendly - she made the experience so much better.
The facilities are basic but they do the job.
The people you meet are what makes the trip and I couldn’t ask for better people to do this journey with.

What can I say. Absolutely unbelievable. The staff were amazing and so so friendly. They helped me get to the hospital instantly when I was in need and looked after me very well. As soon as I got to The Mighty roar they were nothing but lovely. I highly recommend this place to anyone who wants to do volunteering.

Fantastic experience
Fantastic experience . Thoroughly enjoyed myself along with my family . Could be better organised - for example rotas could be drawn up before folk arrive and volunteers should be under no illusions they are there to work and not for a holiday . Trips organised were fantastic and people extremely friendly and go out their way to help . My 6 year old enjoyed everything - from beach cleaning to releasing turtles on the beach and helping out at the local nursery. The food could be more varied especially at breakfast .

Sri Lankan turtle volunteering
From the moment we were picked up from the airport by The Mighty Roar, we were looked after. Everyone working there was friendly and helpful. Nothing was too much. They arranged for trips out on our first two days before starting volunteering. Food was good. Accommodation was basic but had everything you needed. Went on the Hill Country Trip at the weekend, which was good, had all food provided, had a guide too.
Was a great experience and would recommend.

Medical Elective
I spent 6 weeks in Sri Lanka doing my medical elective. The accommodation was clean and the location is great - right next to the beach and about 15 minutes by tuktuk from Hikkaduwa. There is plenty to do nearby with lots of great restaurants and bars. Note that the placement itself is purely observational and we found it very difficult to go and see what specialty we put down on our application form - majority of our time was spent in the ED. There is lots to do at accommodation itself with organised football, karaoke, kayaking etc and they are happy to organise transport for you at the weekends. Overall I would recommend visiting Sri Lanka with TMR.

I had a great time at TMR
I had a great time at TMR. The staff are lovely and I met lots of great people. I spent 1 week on the sea turtle conservation programme, lead by Tharu who is amazing. A couple things to point out about this programme is that there are late nights and early mornings, e.g. my nightly duties/shifts ended at 12:30am each day. Also I did find a fair amount of confusion with organisation so we volunteers were often unsure of plans for the day. Apart from this I had a wonderful experience and would really recommend!

3 week Medical Programme in Sri Lanka
My friends and I spent 3 weeks in Sri Lanka completing the medical programme. We had a great time at TMR accommodation which was always clean with beds and room cleaned every week and fresh meals every day. The meals do get a little repetitive if you’re there for a few weeks but there is always the option to go out for meals as there are great places not too far away. We got transported to and from the hospital every day. The medical programme is strictly observing but I still feel we learned a lot. I feel like the only downside would be is that we didn’t get to see much of other medical specialties and spent most of our time in ETU but we still got to learn a lot there also. I think the organisation could have been a little better as sometimes we weren’t sure exactly where we were going to be or times would change last minute. On the whole I would recommend the experience as it’s a great way to experience something different and make friends while you’re doing it!

I loved my time at the mighty roar
I loved my time at the mighty roar! Everyone was so friendly and helpful, especially my team leader Tharu with the sea turtle conservation. Whenever I needed help, they were very accommodating. The place is beautiful, and my room was very spacious and well kept. The food was standard and what you would expect for feeding so many, just not much variety. There were many extra experiences they offered for low prices, which I found nice. There was sometimes a little disorganisation with messages coming with updates just a bit late, but other than that everything ran smoothly, and was an incredible experience-Thank you so much!!!

I had an amazing time in Busua
I had an amazing time in Busua, Ghana.
I spent three wonderful weeks surrounded by kind, warm and open-hearted people. The house was full of life, laughter and good energy.
This experience filled my heart in a way I didn’t expect. It taught me gratitude, patience and a deeper understanding of different cultures. Busua is a place where life is simple, but emotions are rich, and the connections you make stay with you.
Thank you to everyone who made my time there so special, especially to Dinah. She is the heart of the house. Even though she is still very young, she carries an incredible amount of responsibility with such strength and grace. The way she takes care of everyone is truly inspiring. She has such a big heart, so much patience and a natural warmth that makes you feel safe and welcome from the first moment. Dinah is not just the head of the house – she is its soul. I will always be grateful to have met her.
At the same time, this experience opened my eyes to some hard realities. In schools, corporal punishment is still practiced, which was shocking for me as a European. It reminded me how different the world can be and how important it is to keep learning, questioning and caring.

Had the most amazing experience in Cape Town doing the medical experience. Highly recommend the experience. I made lifelong friends, memorise and got to participate in providing healthcare to a large proportion of patients with varied healthcare requirements. Working alongside the local sisters and doctors at greenpoint clinic is an experience I will always cherish.

Medical Elective Sri Lanka
I had an amazing time on my medical elective in Sri Lanka. I met lots of new friends and really enjoyed seeing different healthcare approaches and facilities whilst on placement. The Ayurvedic medicine clinics the team organised for us to attend were really interesting and so different to home. I went on two TMR weekend trips during my stay which were both well organised and allowed us to see lots of the country. The local team Thilini, Chamodi, Kavi and Tharu were all very friendly, as were the other staff. Special thanks to Thilini for helping organise all of our placements. They were always on hand to help with any questions or issues and were very kind. The accomodation was in a good location, with a nice beach over the road and many activities organised on site. Overall I had a great time in Sri Lanka.

I spent 4 weeks doing the childcare…
I spent 4 weeks doing the childcare program and I had a great time. All of the staff and other volunteers were so friendly and fun! I loved relaxing on the beach in my spare time and I thought the food was great too!
