Inner Hebrides 3 night cruise. What a fabulous experience we loved every minute of it. The boat, the scenery, the wildlife, the food and the amazing crew Stevie, Siobhan, Stewart and Keith who couldn't do enough for us. The icing on the cake was the Dolphins escorting us back to Oban. More than a year ago I booked this private charter for six people. It was for a start date of 3rd August this year 2024. The six were all members of my family and the boat at around 70 feet seemed ideal. The number of guests was limited at six. The cruises with this company start from Oban and are supposedly able to cruise around Mull stopping at any location suitable for an overnight stay on board. My party consisted of four adults and two children. The children were very keen to follow the wildlife which were advertised to be seen around the island. Indeed the cruise we chose was called wildlife adventure. Well, of course Scottish weather is not the best at any time and we could not circumnavigate the island.....what we did was dodge in and out several sea lochs seeking safe havens. The locations we visited were albeit lovely and scenic. However the kids were keen to see puffins and other wild life but we could not access the area where they might be seen. In fact our boat (Glen Rosa) had allegedly not once circumnavigated Mull since it began operations. That was not a surprise as it was a converted survey boat with a very shallow draft. Of course that's not the way it was advertised. Our biggest problem with the boat was its age....it was very tired. The water in the tanks was thick with brown sediment and ran cold in the shower. The shower drains failed to allow water to drain away and as a result would flood the floor. The beds were not the most comfortable or of a good size and generally it was all disappointing. The lady skipper when we complained said she had reported the drain and water temp problem but the company did nothing about it. The only saving grace in the whole six days of the cruise was the food. It was good and tailored to our individual preferences. On complaining to the company I was stonewalled and even when I escalated the complaint to the new owners (West Coast Motors) the matter was ignored. I recommend to all prospective charterers....don't. Our charter for six nights cost over £16,000 and the larger boats (they run three or four) which carry 11 or 12 guests are proportionately more.
