I have had a lifelong battle with bronchitis which has at times turned into pneumonia. This is because my spine is fused which does not allow my lungs to expand and deflate properly. I had a doctor who understood this and would prescribe antibiotics prophylactically at the start of a virus which kept me from becoming worse.
