Alex Neilan, The Sport Dietician and his incredible team are completely first class! Let me explain... I had struggled with yo-yo style dieting and exercise my entire adult life, I have been an unfit size 6 and a stronger size 14 (UK sizes) and everything in-between but when my 50's arrived with the accompanying menopause ramping up to being in full swing I felt the biggest I had been in years, nothing I did would work and I found myself in a constant spiral of trying to figure out what would be best for me to try - should I do intermittent fasting, should I go with a carb free diet, would hitting the gym 5 days a week be the best option.... with all the conflicting information out there on social media from so called experts offering quizzes to find your body type, I was drowning in information and a lot of it made no sense or just sounded wrong. I did actually find Alex on Facebook, he was doing one of his morning lives and for some reason I didn't keep scrolling, I stopped and watched. He was very good, very sincere and seemingly very knowledgeable especially in the area of women's dietary requirements and what happens when we hit menopause. So I then went to look into him some more as I couldn't believe this Irish guy was the real deal... how wrong I was!! I signed up for some of the FREE information he was offering at the time and joined The Sustainable Change a couple of weeks later. And it's the best decision I have ever made concerning my weight, diet, lifestyle and mental health. It has also benefitted my partner too who has made some significant changes to his diet & lifestyle leading him to nearly 3 stones weight loss since September 2025. My weight was severely impacting my health (and life) I was a little over 12 stones when I started and my exercise levels were pretty much non existent - mainly due to health issues but nevertheless, for someone who spent 90% of her adult life very active, I knew I wasn't moving enough. I have psoriatic arthritis, fibromyalgia and currently waiting for to see if I have MS to top it off! I also had multiple bi-lateral strokes in Feb 2024 due to a rare brain condition (from which I have made a near perfect recovery) and I also have a rare condition in my spine which causes cysts in my spinal column which can't be removed, so I have my fair share of health issues for sure! But I had started to let them dictate my fitness (and life!) and had pretty much written myself off at 52yrs old. My weight was increasing and it was having a massive impact on my health. plus I just felt horrible, I spent most of my life a size 8/10 so being at the stage where I opted for elastic waistbands, XL sized tops and clothes that would hide my figure was depressing. Alex and his team have turned this around for me, with mindset coaches, my personal trainer who is there 7 days a week if I need to reach out and Alex's lives on FB which he does come hell or high water, he's so committed to helping us loose weight and turn ourselves around, its truly inspiring. I have lost 10KG since Sept'25 and am now back in a size 10 but more importantly, I am able to move more now than I have for years. With all my conditions taken into account, my PT has devised a workout for ME that I can do at home in half an hour and my daily step count is increasing every day, to the delight of my 3 doggo's!! I was of course sceptical to start with, but having done my research into Alex I decided to go for it and it truly was the best decision I've made for my health, weight and mindset. I was nervous of course and found things overwhelming at times in the beginning but the entire team are there to ensure you handle everything in a way that works for you, after all any change you make has to be sustainable otherwise you won't succeed long term. If you are nervous about starting jump on some of Alex's live's on FB, watch some of the past ones and trust yourself that you can do this. One thing Alex said when I was watching one of his lives's was 'If you fail to plan, you can plan to fail in old age' or words to that effect! It really resonated with me - I don't want to be an overweight, immobile woman in my latter years, I have so much to live for and when grandchildren are in my life I want to be able to get on the floor and play with them, take them on holidays and enjoy myself with them - not be the grandma who sits in the chair watching on who they only visit occasionally because I can't play with them etc. Basically I decided I needed to make me a priority after years as a single mum who always put everyone else's needs first. If I didn't then I wasn't going to succeed in this next stage of my life and at the end of the day, life is too short anyway without spending it feeling uncomfortable in my own body, unable to do the things I want to achieve! Alex and the Sustainable Change team are the real deal, they are worth it and so are you!

Before joining the TSD I was feeling very unwell, exhausted and stressed. I was obese and needed to make some desperate changes. I was depressed, frustrated with not being able to shift the weight and felt embarrassed about my body. I wouldn't go to a gym as I felt gyms were just for skinny people.
I have been working on more than the weight. That is the side affect of the emotional and mental changes.
Binge eating came from emotional challenges and stress that had built up over the years. Not sleeping and post menopause made it more challenging to drop the pounds.
Now I am still losing and learning from the habitual patterns I had become used to when dieting. Undoing the unhelpful habits. Dieting had made me fat. TSD is not a diet it's a way of life. It encourages education, workouts, food planning and promotes therapeutic support for wellbeing.
I got into the gym and had the confidence after a while of home workouts to join a strong her programme. I found myself growing stronger every day. I'd check in with my coach every day as well, being accountable and asking for support if I needed it. He helped me not to give up when I really wanted to and to keep believing that sustainable change was possible even after gains.
I would recommend it to anyone at whatever stage of change you are at. Advice from coaches, physios, counsellors ensure you are well supported. The community on Facebook helps you feel connected and developing home and gym workouts promotes choice and encourages daily activity.
If you are sat on the fence, let yourself be worth it. Think about what it would cost you not to do it !

After reaching out through Instagram I spoke to Alex in depth about my goals. From asking me just a few simple questions he was able to provide me with information on how to reach my targets sustainably. He provided advice and numerous links to follow, all free of charge! Despite offering a monthly subscription there was no pressure whatsoever to sign up. He was happy to help in any way possible, which I found extremely refreshing!

Before I joined the Sustainable Change Program (SCP), my MS was controlling my life. I was struggling to wark further than 200m and I could only stand for 2 minutes at a time whilst leaning heavily on my walking stick. When I had to go out and buy a mobility scooter it was the final straw and I decided I was going to put myself first.
I was nervous about signing up to SCP because I’ve tried other programs and they didn’t teach me anything I didn’t already know, and the results were never sustainable.
Working with Alex Neilan and the team has changed my life. Not only have I lost several inches off my waist, my fatigue, balance and mobility has vastly improved. I no longer use my scooter, I can walk for at least a mile, and I have even started training to take part in HYROX next year. I am so much more confident and happier in myself, but I know my journey has only just begun. I look forward to continuing to work with the team going forward and improving my quality of life.

In my 50s I found my weight continued to increase, despite trying lots of different methods to lose it. Alex Neilan The Sport Dietician popped up on Facebook when I was feeling particularly low, feeling nothing worked. The word sustainable resonated so I arranged a call and signed up. I have Type 1 diabetes so staying healthy to avoid diabetic complications is really important to me. My biggest win is losing almost 5kg in 12 weeks with the support of my coach and Alex’s team of experts on health and nutrition. I have some way to go to get to my goal but I have the tools and support to get there and I know I will.

SUSTAINABLE CHANGE. I left my details as it looked like something different and British I could try. Alex contacted me by text soon after and asked some questions showing a lot of knowledge and understanding. He was very upfront and honest telling me the cost. Sadly I am not in a position to afford it at this moment in time. Alex sent me a FREE link to receive a lot of information and videos for Sustainable Change. I thought there was a catch but there is non he just wants to help people and spread the word.
He is inspiring and it feels so manageable with his clever tips on what to do before every meal, swapping foods. After watching a few videos I was that encouraged I created a excellent meal that I was proud to eat having an apple before hand. Thank you Alex good luck in your mission for 2026.

Alex Neilan gives heartfelt, sensible and sustainable advice. Inspirational stories, exercise plans and nutritional advice all helped me learn how to sustainably lose weight and become stronger and fitter. The multi disciplinary team at Sustainable Change have supported me on my weight loss journey at every step, including physio for a back injury. I am so grateful that I joined this program, and would like to thank Alex and all the team for their help and support. I needed to put myself first, for the first time in my life, and would encourage anyone who is considering this to take them plunge and go for it.

I’ve had a really positive experience with Alex from Sustainable Change. I received lots of free, useful resources focused on diet and weight loss, which can be particularly challenging when you’re over 50. Alex was incredibly helpful, approachable, and explained things in a realistic, supportive way that felt achievable rather than restrictive. I’d happily recommend Sustainable Change to anyone looking practical advice to help the, successful achieve a healthy weight.

I have thought long and hard about whether or not to leave a review about my 12 week experience with Sustainable Change. Having seen some of my thoughts echoed in others' reviews that seem to miraculously disappear, I think if one person reads this and does not part with the over £2000 that this costs, then it will be useful.
I signed up to The Sustainable Change in August for the 12 week plan - already well versed in nutrition and home workouts, I wanted external insight into my current lifestyle and, after speaking to someone during a 'discovery call' which I felt pressured into, I agreed to take on the 12 week plan. I was under no illusion that the person i spoke to was working with a script, but went ahead with it.
Initially things were fine - and I will say that I managed to lose quite a bit of the weight I wanted to and enjoyed the strength training that I was set. This was more rep based and I had completed quite a lot of circuit based training so the change was positive, plus I was attending a weekly aerobics class, hiked regularly and ran weekly - so my coach was already happy with my efforts and developed habits.
Initially you are set up with several calls but in the twelve weeks I had just one coaching call with my assigned coach, one mindset call which was not helpful and the rest of the time communication fell to whatsapp messaging which, aside from being obviously AI-based, was very difficult for me to maintain - having a busy job, lifestyle, family and commute to work.
I didn't really feel too negatively for the first 7 weeks as I was getting the results that I wanted and was happy continuing at my own pace. It wasn't until week 8, when my coach accused me of not sending through the weekly report (I had done this religiously), that I started to have doubts about the company and the way that it is run. Once my coach realised that this had not been my mistake, I barely got an apology but this definitely soured things.
I had not really engaged with Alex's lives or the group due to time constraints, I felt that Alex's opinions of social media felt cult-like and this was not something that I felt would add to my experience.
From this point on I started to question why the plan had cost so much money when communication was simply whatsapp messages and the only time I was offered another 'catch up call' when the 8 week mark hit (which I discovered is usually a pressured call to encourage a further sign up costing around £6000). My coach would often send messages that felt robotic and conjured up by Chat GPT. They focused on areas that felt completely unachievable for me such as 'getting 9 hours of sleep' whilst encouraging my 5am workout routine. Whilst we are encouraged to keep constant contact with our coach - this felt very unsustainable to me and it became clear very quickly that my coach did not understand my lifestyle or needs at all, often making comments that were unhelpful and, despite my success I decided to continue with my head down for the final two weeks and distance myself from them, and the company as much as possible. I was in training for a half marathon and my coach would never prioritise running into my already busy week. They would set me a target of beating my weekly Parkrun time and, when I did, I would receive feedback such as 'remember not to overdo it' or 'running won't get you the shape you want.' As the weekly report goes directly to the coach, it is impossible to raise any concerns. On the occasions that I did mark my satisfaction level as lower than 'satisfied' it was met with very defensive responses.
Towards the end of my 12 week plan, I was in a high period of stress and anxiety for several reasons, and this was only heightened when I received messages from my coach. I had declined yet more phone calls from the company offering a 'coaching call' and was counting down the days to the end of my plan. I had selected 'I have not heard from my coach this week' as an answer, which was a truthful statement. I received a long and shaming text from my coach based on this one answer. At this particularly difficult time, my coach picked at everything that I had done that was not conducive to a coaching relationship, generally being difficult. I sent a short response and chose to stop communication all together at this point. I felt sick at the fact of paying such a large amount of money for something that ChatGPT had produced under the guise of 'personalised and tailored' content. I had been promised things like 'diet breaks' and 'increased progress' in workouts, I had absolutely none of this and, as a customer, I felt incredibly let down and upset at the treatment I received from someone who, in my opinion, did not appreciate my needs.
My advice would be to avoid this company - you could be much better off with an in person coach, or even AI to create something personalised.

My big win from Sustainable Change is in my mindset. I now make time for me every day whether it’s a walk or a workout.
When I joined I was very low having just lost my Mum. I felt fat, old and tired and needed help in seeing my future after two very draining years. I joined the programme 12weeks ago and have lost 8.5kg and 9cm each from my bust waist and hips. These 12 weeks have included a weeks holiday and two weekends away!
If you’re doubting whether this works then I can 100% reassure you that this is the best choice I’ve made in years! I am a people pleaser and learning to give something back to myself has increased my confidence so much.

If you want to lose weight and change old habits Sustainable Change is for you. After years of yo-yo dieting the SC programme was what I needed. You have access to a coach, dietician, phycologist and if you become a member you join the Sustainable Change Inner Circle. This is an invaluable group of people who provide the most amazing support and it is all private to members only. You receive recipes, exercises, access to you coach each day and a whole host of information from the various videos and live talks from Alex. They teach you how to become healthy and how to make is sustainable.

I am on week 7 of a 12 week plan and am really pleased with my progress so far. I have been assigned a coach who spent time discussing my health goals and put together my personal eating and exercise plan, which has led to me losing just over 9kg. As well as the weight loss, I feel better than I have in a long time - my post-menopause brain fog has cleared, I feel so much sharper and have a lot more energy.
My coach is easily contactable and there are myriad resources available, from recommended reading to online appointments with more specialist members of the team e.g. physio and mental health support.
The holistic approach is great and the moral support received via the Facebook groups is invaluable and I'm confident that this healthier lifestyle is sustainable.

My biggest win is having the team and my coach behind me all the way. My weight has made it impossible to get my hip surgery, so Alex and the SCT have been a godsend. Also the people in the inner circle and FACEBOOK are so helpful and supportive. I have realised that Mindset is probably the best word, as it makes you think about everything you have been doing and all you want to change.
I am going into my 4th week and although I have lost a wee bit of weight, my whole thinking around food is slowly changing, trying not to be so tough on myself and comparing myself to others, as we all have our own struggles to deal with, mine being physical.
If you feel that you are no 1 and your time is now, I say go for it. It doesn't matter what age or physical ability you have there is something for everyone.
I am even at 57 3/4, it is time to put me first and I have. I have made this investment to change and become a better version roll on 2026.
