I'm literally sick of your 5 working days payout. Feel ashamed when my US business partners are able to get 2 days payouts for card payments, but no, damn I have to wait for silly 5 working days. that's a real pity. Few other payment processors here in London are issuing 2 days, yet your company takes a whole week.
I have been Striped Up
I originally rejected stripe as a payment processor after reading the reviews.
Their sales team were extremely persistent and reassured me that the negative reviews were all coming from high street retailers / coffee shops that were not within Stripes support structure.
After reading some of the reviews it was clear some people were also having issues with being paid out.
I SPECIFICALLY advised the sales person that I would not accept our payments being held for any reason for any longer than 24 hours. I was reassured this would definitely not happen.
I signed the agreement with an appealing headline rate, however it became apparent very quickly that additional fees / charges (Which are not transparent), were extreme. They nearly double our previous suppliers fees, I complained multiple times, their support service failed multiple times to resolve the issues, siting we were taking huge amounts of international card payments, accepting Amex blah blah blah. This was not the case.
Then to top it off they put a hold on our account for nearly two weeks, towards the end of the month when suppliers were needing to be paid.
This was the end of Stripe for us and we reverted back to our previous supplier and our monthly charges reverted back from approx 8k PCM to 4k.
Absolutely shocking charges / Service / systems.

OMG if Stripe can find a difficult, unintuitive way to present payment set up information they would win a gold medal.
I have literally built some of the most complicated Options and Futures trading spreadsheets using advanced math but for the life of me I cannot figure out their terrible links on the payment set up page, where I literally feel like every single intuitive link Stripe could have presented me with has been obfuscated or hidden and you can't find the simple thing you wanted to do.
Do people really have to spend days and days and days wading through all the plethora of info and resources just to set up something that should be ridiculously simple (use a Stripe link on my site, send buyers to Stripe.buy.com, where they read my T&C’s, tick a box to agree, pay and are then sent back to my digital download page) because I am still unsure how to do that and run a test payment and am thinking of closing the account.
I'm not imagining it — Stripe’s dashboard UX is fragmented because there are multiple overlapping products:

Customer Portal
Products
Payment Buttons
Buy Buttons
Payment Element
Embedded Checkout
…and the redirect settings live in different places depending on WHICH Stripe flow you created.
That’s why it is so chaotic to set up. I have literally taken my personal name off the payment cart two times and changed it to my business name but there is it again, my private name in the shopping cart. Also just setting up a simple link to your T&C's on the payment page has been a two hour exercise in futility with two different set up "help" pages to achieve the same task but with different conflicting instructions -- one saying you need an API to have stick box, the other saying the opposite.
Stripe is TRUELY A NIGHTMARE how on earth did they get so big being this utterly sloppy and unorganised?

There have been several challenges using Stripe, particularly around account verification and payment holds. In some cases, transactions are flagged or delayed without clear explanations, and resolving these issues through support can take longer than expected. Communication from support can feel generic, and it is not always easy to get a clear timeline for resolution. While the platform is powerful, the lack of transparency in certain processes can be frustrating for users who rely on consistent payment flow.
Pure greed.
We generate £200,000 annually the past 3 years with projections for this to double in the next 2 years. We wanted to stay with them thanks to their very good Apple / Google pay integration. We thought it would be a good opportunity to negotiate our prices as we were still on the 1.5% + 20p rate for startups. They informed us they recently changed their terms and they only start to negotiate once we have earned £1.2m. Note: They discovered another business of ours had a turnover of £1.1m. This is clearly pure greed. We therefore reached out to Square who have negotiated a fee of 0.91% + 3p (straight 0.91% for in-person sales) and we are now in talks to fully implement Apple / Google pay with our ticketing and QR code ordering system developers due end of next month. We have since moved to Square Processing.

I looked up my charge card statement today to check recent purchases and there was one for £100 and the only reference was STRIPE - I had to phone my bank to find out what it was for and it turned out to be the membership renewal for a county show.
Don't think it would take much effort to include an abbreviated reference to the show

Very Disappointed with Stripe’s 25% Reserve Policy
I’ve been extremely unhappy with Stripe’s sudden decision to impose a 25% rolling reserve on our account. This level of reserve is simply not acceptable for a small or growing business. Holding back a quarter of our revenue severely restricts cash flow, making it difficult to pay suppliers, staff, and operational expenses.
What makes this especially frustrating is the lack of flexibility and transparency around how the reserve was determined. A 25% hold can effectively break a business that relies on predictable revenue cycles. For many companies, especially in competitive markets, margins are not large enough to absorb that kind of restriction.
Payment processors should support businesses, not put them in a position where their growth and stability are jeopardized. While Stripe markets itself as business-friendly and innovative, policies like this can feel punitive and one-sided.
Unless there is clearer communication, reasonable negotiation options, and a more balanced risk approach, it’s difficult to recommend Stripe to other business owners.

Using stripe is a con and makes no business sense
I am a new customer for Stripe. The integration with Xero was completely missold to me as a cost effective and fast payment service. This couldn’t be further from the truth. As a small construction company our first deposit invoice was paid by a customer amounting to GBP 1637 and Stripe/Xero fee was charged at GBP 31. This is extortionate and neither a solution for the customer nor small businesses. Furthermore Stripe will take 7 days to release funds due to verification checks. We are an established company with an already established bank. It doesn’t need 7 days checks. I feel scammed quite honestly.

Very concerned. I paid something via stripe about 10 years ago. I had no more dealings with them until today when I get an email from link.com apparently a branch of stripe showing me 2 transctions I recently made. This is very concerning. There are lots of scammers out there. Beware

Yourselfirst (a self-development website) charged me without permission and Stripe allowed it. No help, no refund, just silent debits. It seems like they protect scammers rather than users

I clicked on the free test on the Yourselfirst website but Stripe immediately charged me $29.99. No receipt or consent. I never agreed to buy anything
Banking fraud
I appear to have had my bank account identity hacked and the person used Stripe to set up Direct Debit payments without authorisation from my account. Three different amounts went out of my account within a week, then the DD’s were cancelled.!!! Ive had to close the account and open another one in prevention of it happening again. Stripe never contacted me to check the authorisation. BEWARE!!!

Wow! I wish I had read these reviews before I painfully and slowly set up a payment link. I eventually got it sorted, and used once. My cutomer paid days ago and no idea where the money is sitting. No communication from them and impossible to speak to anyone.
