Do not trust Sploot
Do not trust Sploot. Sploot is Private Equity owned and uses deceptive advertising and dark billing patterns to increase the revenue they extract from you.
First, I want to be absolutely clear the vets and people that work at the Sploot facilities are wonderful and caring. They seem genuinely interested in the care of pets.
However, interactions with the Business Operations Team reveals a different approach by the business.
We have been a customer of Sploot for sometime with one dog. we recently adopted a second puppy and scheduled for her to be spayed. After referring to their website, they advertised female spay for $750.
After the initial consultation exam we were presented an estimate or $1250. When we pointed out the rate was more than what was advertised, they said they missed apply our membership discount and came back with an estimate of $950.
When we still questioned the price they stated that the advertised rate of $750 was the “Starting Price” and that because our 6 month puppy was 30lbs, it would cost $200 more.
We pointed out their page says “No hidden fees. Just expert care + full transparency.” and that we didn’t feel we that our experience matched that claim.
We asked that they honor their advertised rate and if not we would contact the BBB for deceptive advertising practice.
The next day after this request, the Sploot “Business Operations Team” retaliated by unilaterally cancelling our puppy’s spay surgery with less than 24 hour notice and said we were not welcome as customers any longer.
Fair warning. Service is great but if you question their billing practices, they will take a “their way or the highway“ approach to their customers.
ADDITIONAL NOTE:
After reviewing reviews on Yelp and other sites, it very much appears deceptive billing practices is part of their business model. Private Equity at its best.
We have consulted with an attorney and they have expressed interest in supporting a class action lawsuit against Sploot and their PE owners for these practices.
If you have an experience related to deceptive billing practices by Sploot, you can send your story to: SplootClassAction@ gmail.com.
We will collect these stories and provide to the attorney to begin the class action process.
