It’s been a good experience
It’s been a good experience. This is the only dating site I’ve ever been on because I was looking for quality. While maybe most people who claim to be “awake” are simply entrenched, there are good people on this site. I’ve enjoyed and appreciated my time there.

A Dated Ghost Town for Global Pen Pals, Not a Dating Site
I joined Spiritual Singles hoping to find local, like-minded connections. The site looks dated, and my experience was that it's completely useless for real-world dating.
The profiles are often these elaborate spiritual performances, but talking to them feels like speaking to a carefully crafted persona, not a person. When users complain, the site's response is that it's "meant for long-distance connections." That's an admission of failure, not a feature.
In my time on the site, the few interactions I had proved the point. The most telling one was a message from someone on the other side of the world, speaking only in vague, abstract spiritual platitudes. That sums up the site's real function: impractical, global, theoretical chat, not local dating.
When criticised, the site says: "We encourage you to contact those you are interested in... be open to meeting someone outside of your area." This deflects blame onto the user, ignoring the real problem: there's hardly anyone active there to connect with. The platform encourages paying for expensive long-distance pen-pals to make up for a local marketplace that doesn't exist.
Charging up to $24 a month for this is indefensible. If the purpose is truly "long-distance connections," then a fair model would make messaging free for users separated by, say, 500 miles or an ocean. Instead, they charge a premium for the very scarcity they've created.
If you want to write a spiritual autobiography and enjoy global pen pals, you might like it. If you're looking for actual dates, meet ups, or a live local community, you'll waste your time and money. It's a niche social network for spiritual identity display, not a working dating platform.

Best Customer Service
Most concerning is the negative, critical, defensive responses from customer service. Read through the responses on this site to the 1 to 3 star negative reviews and you'll discover that customer services almost always shifts blame or slams the customer th at paid money. When one Arkansas customer complained there were only a couple active live users in their area despite many profiles listed that haven't been on for years, the response from customer service was "the Midwest is not generally known to be a 'spiritual hub', and therefore our site reflects this." Huh? Where do these customer people think the spiritual hubs are? Arkansas is South, not Midwest like Minnesota or Illinois. It's a huge spiritual state and not California, Oregon, or New York. The company's demeaning comments are unnecessary and someone needs to be fired so you can hire someone with brains and empathy.

My Initial Review
I have only been on this site for a very short period of time. What I have experienced so far is positive. I had one issue with the site due to a misunderstanding, but that was resolved. The site is very safety conscious, which is great. It is laid out very well and easy to navigate. Online dating, to me anyway, is a lot different from meeting someone in public, so I am still learning the ins and outs. I am a senior and the site seems to be geared towards a younger crowd, which is not bad in itself. If you are considering giving Spiritual Singles a try, I would encourage you to do so.

I don't like websites that ask you for your password every single time (even though I checked the box "remember me next time"). A bit cheesy. Also, I have been scammed here and now it's asking me for a paid subscription in order to reply with a personalized message. This was not made clear upfront.

As for messaging, here’s how our Free vs. Paid features work:
• If you receive a free “Hello,” you can reply with a free “Hello.”
• If you receive a personally written message from a paid member, you can reply with your own personalized message.
• Free members can only reply to incoming messages — once per message — and the subscriber must send another message for you to reply again.

Our members are really our best feature! And, yes, the site is not that modern, we are working on a full redesign (again). Since we have been online since the year 2000, almost 26 years, we have had many redesigns over the decades, and we will have more! In the meantime, the site works very well for meeting someone special, and we stand behind our thousands of success stories.
We do our best to foster authentic connections and provide our members with a great deal of info on each member, to help with screening and matching. As you've probably noticed, our profiles are super in-depth, and we don't have any superficial swiping. All members can search the database of members and contact whomever they like. It's a bit old school, and most of our members appreciate all of the details and options we provide. Hopefully, once you get used to it, you will too!
