Just leave UK please

I honestly hope that I will soon read the news that these thieves went into bankruptcy. BY FAR the most expensive in and around London. How on earth were they allowed to have their prices 2-3 times the competition is beyond me. Is nobody regulating this market ?!?

So bad

They start charging you for membership as soon as you create an account on their website. However you can’t charge your vehicle until they’ve sent you a membership car. After a week I still haven’t received mine. Utterly useless money-stealing business.

Avoid Source London at all costs!!!

I cannot convey strongly enough what an unethical, grasping and unconscionable operation Source London is. I see them as the low lives of electric vehicle charging.

To be as concise as possible, I connected up my partners car for charging a few weeks ago, and due to the poor light and quite poor Web site, it was anything but clear that I would be charged based upon cable connection time and not power delivered.

Bottom line - i received a > £30 charge for what would be ~ £2 at any other public charge point.

Despite emailing their customer services to request a partial refund, they did not respond.

I sincerely urge everyone out there that requires a public charge point to AVOID anything to do with Source London. They are a disgrace.

What an absolute joke - highway robbery!

What an absolute joke! £0.69 per kwh at standard rate charging. I can go to BP or Shell and it rapid charging for £0.42-0.50.

It cost me £23 for 34kwh and took 4h 32m to get that.

I live in Ealing and with limited lamppost chargers (£0.24 per kWh), I had to resort to source London. Would not recommend at ALL. Highway robbery!

If you can use something else, do it.

They deserve 1 star because at least they have changed pricing to per kWh delivered, not per time. Most PHEVs can only charge slowly (3.5kWh) so charging per time was really punishing. Also worth praising the resident discounts and the new app, at least this one does work (the old one didn't even open).

Now the not-so-good:
- The website is really poor, labels showing the variable name, bad usability, charging sessions show strange information.
- pricing is still unreasonable. On a resident discount (£4 per month) you pay 27p/kWh (with a minimum charge of 69p). Just as a comparison, char.gy will do 33p, no connection fee on pure pay-as-you-go.
- idle fees start applying after 10 minutes of finishing the charge. You better get good at estimating, otherwise you are in for a surprise.
- their technology platform is really poor. I have now had 4 occasions where it detected my car was not charging after delivering only a very small charge. The car was properly plugged and restarting the charge made it all work properly. By that time I had already incurred the minimum fee and idle charges. I noticed that the website was not refreshing the time, so it's clearly a communication problem between the charging point and their server... but we pay.

So why do councils use Source London? Easy: Source London pays all the installation costs, so it does not cost councils anything to put these up while they wash their hands and they tick the green agenda.
Other suppliers will ask for the council to contribute at least a percentage of installation costs.

Be warned these charges are…

Be warned these charges are extortionate cost and more expensive than filling a diesel car. Charge on 7.4kw charger cost me £13 for around 20kwh.

Customer service was helpful, but not worth the money, avoid at all cost.

Avoid at all costs

Appalling customer service. Overcharges when using to charge a car. Totally unresponsive to phone calls and emails. Avoid

Addendum
And interestingly has asked for more info about me via Trustpilot following this review whilst still not responding to my calls and emails.

** Do not use

** Do not use - this company is committing fraud, have just spent my evening trying to stop them taking 3 payments of £49 from my account, this is from when I charged my car a few days ago. I have paid the actual charging fee (£14). Shows up as Mangopay SA in your bank account… Was so pleased when I first saw the chargers at the end of my road - massive disappointment, one issue is what a pile of c*** the machines are, but now trying to steal money from me, and the stress of it. Cannot believe this fraudulent joke of a company has a monopoly of the charging system in London, will avoid regardless of any inconvenience.

Expensive idle rates! Beware!

On the face of it I thought the experience was pretty good, expensive at 69p/kWh. But it was convenient and seemed straightforward. I parked up plugged in and away it went. The car finished charging at 2:33am and then I was paying 5p/min until I unplugged at 8:3am on a Saturday. So 90miles of charge for £50! I understand not wanting people to leave their cars connected through the day preventing a paying customer from connecting but do they seriously expect people to wake in the middle of the night to go and disconnect the car! Absolute joke, I’ve tried contacting them to have a reasonable discussion and see if they would see any sense in my complaint but you don’t get any sort of correspondence with them. I will not be using again which is a shame as it’s in a really convenient location for me.

Avoid, Avoid, Avoid

Just a terrible service. £49 is taken as a pre-authorisation for PAYG users - my first qualm is they’ll tell you this is clearly signposted but it’s not. In fact it’s hidden deep in the FAQ section where “emergency” users are unlikely to have the time to go searching around. It absolutely should be clearly signposted, but as the rest of my tale goes - Source London do not believe in clear signposting, instead they opt for hazy and misleading instructions.

My second qualm is how truly awful their platform is (it’s clearly built by people who have never seen a user-friendly interface or people who despise their jobs so much they would rather see the company burn into the abyss through their incompetence - owing to my final qualms I believe this to be the case). The first thing you see when using a Source London charger is a button that says “Tap Your Card Here”, now if you initially read this as “tap your credit or debit card here” I don’t think you’d be an idiot for thinking this, in fact I think it’s fairly common parlance, but you would be very much mistaken. What they actually mean is if you have a membership card tap it there - why don’t they just say that. If you don’t have a membership and are a woeful PAYG user, you’re asked to tap in the top right hand corner to start your charge, this guides you to a QR code which brings up the charging station you’re using to charge. Great, simple! Finally, some sense. No, it once again all goes wrong. For some reason, and I only found this out after 3 phone calls, a Twitter argument and an email thread, if you use the QR code the station tells you to use it will automatically get you to charge on the left hand socket - even if it’s in use. If it’s in use it will allow you to start your charge and they’ll take the holding deposit from you but then will do nothing. No emails will come through advising of any issues, the only email will be to confirm you have started a charge - it is infuriating because as there are no warnings, no notifications to say “please use the app to connect to the secondary socket”, someone in a rush and needing to charge may naturally try the process again and unwittingly be charged another £49 for the trouble. Amazingly the customer service representative advised I do exactly that over and over again, until I reached a grand total of £200 on holding deposits with 0% charge. The only time it eventually worked was because the car next to me eventually left, and with it my sanity and my £200. With no end in sight for having the amount refunded and tears of anger, joy and delirium at what a terrible experience The Source charges an insane premium for - I left, only to now be met with a £25 charging bill.

I can only imagine the reason they have such an inflated holding deposit and a refund period of 3 days (for reference most other electric charging stations in and around London have a £5 holding fee and automatically refund when there are any issues) is to inflate their income to paint a healthy financial picture to their parent company, Total. It would also explain why they invest about £6 in their Customer Service Team - the £6 is the cost of writing the script every agent reads from.

If you like having a rage induced out of body experience then I would highly recommend The Source London, but if you prefer a healthy blood pressure and enjoy life I would steer clear of them at all costs. In my case all £200 of those costs.

An utter shambles and BP now has a near monopoly in London

Why on earth would a fossil fuel company want to encourage electric cars?? I now completely understand why people in London can't really buy an electric car unless wealthy, with access to off-street parking and a source of electricity. I normally charge in the country but yesterday I realised I would not have enough charge, so tried once again to use Source London chargers. I tried 2 different ones the day before without success, so had gone home to sign up on my laptop (not redirected to correct website when tried to use the barcode on the street). In spite of committing to a £10/month direct debit because I couldn't wait 10 working days for a membership card to be sent to me THROUGH THE POST, again I had to laboriously give them all my details including credit card - no link with a central computer to find my details and give a password. Again the app was faulty, giving the wrong socket type as the only choice in order to click through, then not being able to continue after inputting my credit card details. I got through on the phone EVENTUALLY and the operator rebooted the charger. I tried again and it worked for about 3 seconds before failing. Phoned again but couldn't get a second charger to work either, so gave up. Bet I'm charged a fortune on my credit card even though got NO electricity since I have read that they take £49 as surety every time you log on before even charging. What is the point of giving them a credit card? Also if you want to sit in your car with the heater on in winter while charging, you'll be using up almost as much electricity as you're getting - nearly all the chargers are NOT Rapid chargers, so unless you want to shop for 6 hours, no chance of getting more than a few miles out of a charge anyway. Can't leave overnight or you'll be charged for parking if you sleep over 6 hours too! An utter shambles.
Update - sure enough 2x£49 on my credit card which I hope are refunded. However, I went to Kensington that night and miraculously got about 50 miles into my car with no trouble (while watching a film in the warmth).
Sort out North London, or at least let us know when your chargers don't work, BP - life's too short to spend hours in the cold, trying to negotiate non-working equipment.

No choice, so I used Source PAYG, big mistake!

So after having cancelled my membership for dreadful customer service and a non-responsive customer number, I was forced to use a Source London charging station as the usual rapid chargers were all occupied. Entered my details on the website, charged for 8 hours. The cost was £49, very expensive but I knew that going in. What I didn't know was there would be a separate charge from Mango pay of £30 for the card transaction or some other thing. This company is a joke and I will be writing to London Mayor Saddiq Khan to complain about a lack of transparency in pricing and exorbitant fees as well as poor customer care. Unacceptable. Don't ever use Source London charging!
