Shanice the emotional abuser
On June 26, I attended my scheduled 3:00 p.m. appointment with Shanice at the SmartStyle Salon located inside Walmart in Morehead City. I had booked this appointment with Shanice the previous day. I arrived 15 minutes early, fully anticipating that I might need to wait a little while.
Upon my arrival, I noticed that Shanice had just begun working on a relaxer treatment for another customer whose hair extended to her elbows. Shanice did not approach me to provide an update on her schedule or the anticipated wait time. Instead, another stylist informed me that Shanice would likely require an additional 30 to 45 minutes.
Accepting this information, I chose to leave the salon briefly and returned approximately 35 minutes later. When I came back, I saw that Shanice was working on yet another client, performing the same procedure on someone with hair to her elbows. At this point, I inquired about my appointment. Shanice's response was bitter and curt; she instructed me to "have a seat," adding, "I’ll get to you when I get to you." These were her exact words.
Furthermore, Shanice went on to say that she had not wanted to do my hair in the first place. She could have simply told me she was fully booked, in which case I would have gladly scheduled elsewhere. Instead, her words and manner became increasingly harsh and emotionally distressing. Shanice abruptly told me that I was rude and to "get out." Her tone and body language were intimidating, and for a moment, I feared the situation might escalate further. She walked up to me as if she was going to strike me. This experience left me feeling disrespected and upset. I searched my brain, wondering what I had done to be treated so viciously. I am 73 yrs old and cannot recall a time that I have ever been treated this way. I believe that courteous communication and transparency about scheduling are essential in a professional setting. A simple explanation or honest conversation could have prevented this negative encounter. I am submitting this account as feedback in hopes that it may encourage improved customer service and professionalism in the future.
Bad customer service
I made an appointment online like I was told. Someone called in sick (I get that, but no one had the decency to call and let us know). Then ALL I asked for was a haircut for my daughter, the lady took it upon herself to blow dry & style ( ALL I wanted was a cut). Which ran my bill up to $66. If I wanted to pay salon prices I would have went to one. Not only was the cut ok, but there was a cut on my daughters neck from razor. I was not happy with adding services and not telling me they were additional charges. Will NEVER return. Bad customer service. PERIOD.
Worse haircut in my life
Worse haircut in my life! Not only did the worker cut off over 6 inches in length and tell me to use extensions , I work construction and need to scrub dirt and grime out daily plus had to go somewhere else to get it straight.
It's going to take at least a year to come close to where it was.
I contacted management and was told I'm S.O.L and nothing is going to be done about it. Corporate office will not answer phone and manager lied and gave wrong number to avoid an official complaint!
DO NOT GO HERE!!!! Great Clips will do a better job and stand behind their employees work.
braids not lasting
I am writing to express my frustration with two recent experiences at your SmartStyles location #839, where I paid a total of $260 for braiding services that did not last even one week.
I have a different grade of hair, and while I understand that this may require some special attention, I have had this same braiding style done at other salons before, and it typically lasts at least two weeks, if not longer. However, both times at your location, the braids unraveled within just a few days, which is incredibly disappointing given the amount of money spent.
I trusted your team to provide a lasting, professional result, but instead, I am left with an unsatisfactory style that did not hold up. The $260 I spent feels completely wasted, and I am extremely dissatisfied with the overall experience.
Given my past experience with this style and my expectation for better results, I would appreciate a resolution to this matter, whether that involves a refund or a complimentary service to correct the issue.

These people are a disasster
We set up 11am appointments for my wife and me. As we generally do, we arrived about ten minutes early to be sure we didn't keep anyone waiting. It seems that the person answering phones was double-booking all appointment times...just in case. And we were told it might be 11:30 before either of us could get in. To make matters worse, I watched one of the girls try to do a counter sale that involved giving a discount. This is not an exaggeration...it took her 9 minutes to complete a sale because she couldn't figure out the total price. At around 11:30, they got to my wife but I gave up and left. She joined me later in the store and her hair cut was choppy and looked like a trainee had been turned loose on her. Stay away if you value your time and your appearance.

I was a walk-in and only one other customer was in the store. I've had my hair cut at this salon store before many, many times and by the same stylist. When I went in that day a stylist at the desk was having a long conversation with a customer that seemed to have been about the new computerized system that recently rolled out with smart style. I noticed the stylist who usually cuts my hair was just finishing up with the other customer in the store. So when I was asked at the desk if I was there for a haircut, I said yes and asked if Tammy could cut my hair. I've worn the same hair length most of my life. When Tammy asked how I wanted it cut, I said the way you've always done it, but the last time you cut my hair you left all this bulk on top which I wanted shaped up like you've always done.
So without me even noticing, she must've put like a #1 clipper comb in her clippers and went ZOOOOM ! She completely scalped off all the length of my hair and I yelled STOP ! What are you doing ? When I left the salon my hair was 1/4" to 1/2" in length which was about 5 to 7 inches cut off. This wasn't the worst of it. When I got home and actually looked closer, I noticed that so much was cut that I could see my scalp and choppy layers.
She knew I never wear my hair buzzed because she's been cutting my hair for probably 6 years. She never apologized but instead made some remarks that movie stars like so-and-so now wear their hair like this and it makes you look younger now.
I look like I had just entered boot camp in the Marine Corps. It'll take over a month for my hair to grow in where I'll have some hair to be able to comb. And I had to pay for this ! Never again. No effing way

Walmart, Claypool, AZ - Kittie butchered my hair. Kittie informed me that she had gotten her license in January and that she was the top in her class. I was the only customer in the store for the 45 minutes I was there, and went in with hair length past my shoulder blades. I asked for a 4-inch trim with long layers. When I left the salon my hair was at shoulder length (that's 8 inches cut off), but that's not the worst of it. When I got home and actually looked at the mess, I noticed that Kittie had cut jaw-length choppy layers on the right side of my head, with virtually no layers cut on the now shoulder-length left side of my head! It looked like a third-grader high on Kool-aid cut my hair! I could have done better!!
I called Carmen, the store manager, the next day very upset. She told me to come in so she could correct this mess. She was appalled at the cut I had received - the back wasn't even trimmed evenly. I asked Carmen to take pictures (which she wanted to do at the beginning anyway) at every step of the redo (resulting in about 15 pics). Carmen did a wonderful job on my now ABOVE shoulder-length hair considering what she had to work with. Thank you, Carmen.
The Now Short Hair Bottom Line: Kittie thought the cut looked fantastic when I left the store (scary). She needs to have her license temporarily revoked until she properly learns her trade.

A friend recomend mi a product, and went and bought it, it result I got the wrong product, I went back to echange it, and the employes said no, and ask me to come back the next day to talk to the manager, she refuse it to echange it. I was not asking for the money back. They dont have a sign that said no refund no returns or echange, and the employee didnt tell me. That never happen to me in United States, mi first visit and my lastone I will never recomend this place to anybody.
Butchered my hair…
Went in with shoulder blade unlayered hair for long layers no shorter than shoulder length and swing bangs and came out with ear length hair with bangs above my eyebrows with uneven short layers. Went to another salon to see what they could do to help me. Two stylists there said Raquelle Velasquez left so many holes in the cut that all they could do was try to even out some layers and try to fix it as it grows out. Salon manager Casey sent an emoji of hitting forehead with hand. REALLY? Your employee just lopped off 2 years of hair growth due to her ineptness and I get an emoji? Today received a call from district manager Tracy Corato that stylist Raquelle Velasquez is on probation and supposed to be working under direct supervision only, therefore not working alone as she was when she butchered my hair. She offered no apology, no accountability, and a refund “minus the tip of course” and 3 months of haircuts for free (like I’ll even need one during that timeframe with the butchered haircut Raquelle Velasquez gave me). I declined her offer and requested a call from their Risk Manager. I have also filed a complaint with the DBPR.

Don't use SmartStyle
Went in looking for the "new year, new look" experience and walked out feeling like I looked like a 90-year-old man. The company itself is not willing to make any part of my horrible experience right, and in fact, the store manager kept my receipt telling me he had to give it to his boss. Now neither one will speak to me. I have attempted to communicate with the corporate office, but no one is interested in taking care of a bad customer experience. The stylist who worked on me was completely incompetent and it took 2 trips to 2 other salons to fix the mess she left me in and I haven't even gotten so much as an apology from anywhere within SmartStyle. I was of course told I was "blacklisted" from ever recieving services from them anywhere ever again. Like I'd go back after this debacle. Especially after the "manager" Sally Rodriguez refused to speak to me. I wish this would let me post the pics of how the stylist sent me out of the shop.
Ask about invisible extra charges BEFORE HAND
This is for the location inside Walmart at 2401 Augusta Rd, Columbia, SC only
I chose $19.97 shampoo and cut. Service was fine until I was told to pay almost $50.00! I was told I got a $10.00 discount, but the extra fee was for my hair length (to my waist). Nowhere on the pad where I chose the service, nor did the stylist mention anything, about extra charges for long hair. I have NEVER been charged extra for a simple trim (no complex style, just trim split ends).
It's quite reasonable to charge extra for color or perm on long hair as it takes more product and a longer time. Not so for a trim.
Guess I was in shock (didn't complain, then) and paid...even felt obligated to tip. Have since sent an email to the company to complain (no response yet), but I'll never use them again
