We rented a house in North Oxford through Scott Fraser. The initial experience was fine, from viewing to getting our tenancy signed and negotiating some issues to be fixed as a condition of the tenancy. But it all went spectacularly downhill after we moved in. There was no property information provided, and some of the information in the inventory was wrong. One of our appliances was dangerous to use and took 2 months to replace. We were passed from pillar to post, the property manager kept changing and the only thing that was fixed in good time was a leak. All other issues were put on a list to be dealt with goodness knows when. The end of tenancy process was awful - poor communication and they hounded us for spurious costs despite us leaving the property in better condition than when we moved in. Absolute sharks.
We did wonder whether this just was an unfortunate experience so we spoke to the following tenants when we gave them our forwarding address. They had the same issues repeated - all the information we’d taken the trouble to correct at the end of tenancy had simply been ignored, and if we hadn’t contacted them they would have had the same problems of trying to understand basic things like where the water meter was and the code to the burglar alarm. This company shouldn’t be fit to operate.

Once again the Witney Office (Sophie this time) found us some excellent tenants for a rental property. Pleasure to deal with!
One star lost because the interventions from the Leaders central office were not of the same high standard as the service we got from the local office.

We have been dealing with Caitlin in the Witney office. After a couple of extremely unprofessional encounters with a well-known Oxford agency, Caitlin has been a breath of fresh air. Efficient and professional we have now rented a beautiful property for our daughter. Delighted.

Abysmal property management service. They made an error with the tenancy end date, which I accept because people can make mistakes. But the subsequent poor communication and lack of clarity and honesty about their error was appalling. Moreover, it caused me significant inconvenience, costs, and losses. Scott Fraser refused to accept responsibility for any of this until I initiated legal action via the small claims court, at which point they paid up. But what a tiresome process. And what absence of care, competence, and customer service.

They are scammers. My worst nightmare.
They took away my peace and my money.
My mental health suffered a lot because of them. They claimed the door was damaged which was a lie few months after I moved out and they kept harrassing me with email. Tried to speak with Ben the property manager but he was always busy and didn't call back. I requested for a photo of the door, didn't get it. No way to contact the depositary. In the end I paid because I didn't want any trouble because of my status.
Complaints I made whilst living in the house were never attended to.
Please run from scotfraser, they will milk you dry and never attend to your issues.

Scarlett rescued me after I managed to lock myself out of my apartment as I was moving out of it, saving me hours of waiting around outside in December in just a t-shirt and jeans. She then helped me finalise the details of my vacation of the property. She was extremely professional, friendly, and helpful throughout what could have been a much more stressful experience. Highly recommended!

In 2019, the exemplary village lettings agency from whom I’d been renting since 2014 unfortunately closed down and sold their business to Scott Fraser. Within months, Scott Fraser was bought out by the Leaders-Romans Group but continue to trade under their original name. If you rent with Scott Fraser you are actually renting with a national agency that seems to be buying up smaller businesses around the country.
I am now retired and have had forty-five years of experience of living in many rented properties. I have been a very good tenant, have paid my bills on time, have looked after properties well, left them in as good, if not better, condition than when I arrived and have always received my full deposit back – no exceptions. In my extensive experience, Scott Fraser/Leaders-Romans have been by far the worst agency that I have ever dealt with.
Leaders-Romans appear to have distributed their administrative infrastructure around the country: contracts in Salford, credit control in Worthing, at one stage my temporary Scott Fraser ‘property manager’ was on the far side of an adjacent county.
I found myself correcting errors in documents, for example such basic information as the start date of my tenancy on a continuing rental contract. At one point I was incorrectly given 6 weeks to move out by an inexperienced member of staff and had to get Citizen’s Advice involved to sort the situation out. In my experience, communication within the company was frequently appalling. Even within the local office, messages either weren’t passed on or weren’t followed up. Requests for repairs weren’t always actioned. My file was not kept up to date. Staff often didn’t pick up the phones. Emails didn’t get answered. Several local contractors who came to do repairs in the house were less than positive about dealing with the company as well. The lettings staff turnover seemed to be unusually high and, although a few were efficient, responsible and professional, they seemed to be the exception and did not stick around. The introduction of The Depositary portal for managing deposits did not improve things from a tenant's perspective at all. For months I was sent repeated reminders for information already submitted and things I'd already done.
I think my landlord was given a very poor service too. Property inspections were few and far between. Late last year I questioned the ‘property manager’s’ proposed use of non-British Gas contractors to do the annual safety check when I knew the landlord had a contract with British Gas. The ‘property manager’ told me that he had no knowledge of it. I went ahead and booked with BG as usual and presumably saved my landlord an unnecessary extra bill.
I was present at the final inventory check earlier this year and I knew that the very unpleasant man doing it was making mistakes – if I’d been the landlord, I’d have been dissatisfied. Just before we left, I suggested that, for security, we should lower the ground floor venetian blinds fronting directly onto the street because the house was being left empty. He said no, that the local burglars would know which houses were empty and that they wouldn't bother with this one. What? Scott Fraser/Leaders-Romans subcontract this work out. It's not done in-house.
It took me fourteen months of regular hassling a very large number of people to remove my (co-tenant) adult son’s name from the tenancy agreement when he moved out, and then, at the start of this year, I had to pay £50 for the privilege. Scott Fraser/Leaders-Romans knew that he had gone fourteen months earlier - they supplied his next reference. Fourteen months to make a legal change!
After the checking out report, I received an automated email asking me to wait for a decision about the deposit refund. I waited and waited. After a fortnight, I emailed my ‘property manager’. No reply. A couple of weeks later I rang the office only to be told that that employee had left and that they couldn’t get into his emails so didn’t know what he had or had not been doing. How can a company leave themselves in this position? The person who took over the ex-employee's work continued with the procrastination. I only received my full deposit back more than three months after my ex-landlord had authorized its full return.
I wish I could have billed Scott Fraser/Leaders-Romans for four years’ worth of my stress and wasted time. I’m so relieved that it’s all over.

From the offset, ScottFraser were unprofessional and incompetent.

Even before I moved in, the process of negotiating and signing my contract was a nightmare. I ended up having back-and-forth communication with various different ScottFraser employees as they failed to amend clauses in my contract and repeatedly sent over the incorrect document (key details were left out like the fact that bills, WiFi and TV license were included in my rent). The whole process took so long that I ended up signing the contract on the day I moved into the property - the first of many red flags.

(New tenants also be warned, they'll try and sign you up to a Zero-Deposit scheme even when you refuse. Luckily I spotted this clause in the contract, but they'd tried to include it despite the fact that I refused to join the scheme multiple times).

During the nearly two years I lived in the property managed by ScottFraser, we had over 10 different property managers. We were never told when our property manager changed, which made reporting any maintenance issues near-impossible. Emails and phone calls to the letting agency were repeatedly ignored, and maintenance issues were left unresolved. Whenever anyone did come to the property, they never seemed to know anything about the issue(s) so nothing ever got fixed. In the end, we started going directly to our landlord for all maintenance issues. Our landlord also filed several complaints to ScottFraser, but to no avail (they even had the cheek to complain that we were contacting them too frequently about maintenance issues!)

To top things off, they made my whole experience of moving out incredibly stressful. Everything had to go through their portal system, The Depositary (they claimed this was so speed up the process, but it did no such thing). All my communication went unanswered in the weeks leading up to my move and getting my deposit back was a nightmare, taking nearly two months and endless pestering (nearly daily phone calls).

My list of complaints about ScottFraser could go on and on. They're quick to take your money, but that's the only thing they'll do with any efficiency. Avoid at all costs.

If I could put minus stars I would . DO NOT LET WITH SCOTT FRASER!!
We arrived with MULTIPLE breakages and damages including the bathroom window which only got fixed after 2 YEARS! Lived there for 2 years and only some maintenance failures and breakages (that were there at the beginning) were fixed. Garage was falling down and an absolute joke. They asked us to pay a renting membership instead of deposit and when we pulled out to pay the deposit they took 5 months to sort it and wrongly continued to charge us ‘renting membership’. At the end of our time there they had the cheek to charge us with the breakages that were there at the beginning despite evidence of our reports.

If you are thinking of using Scotfraser Letting Oxford ! May I suggest you look at the reviews on this web page ..
We have a property which has been let to the same tenant for some 5 years without any problems whatsoever ! BUT ! when there is something that is to be looked at if you call the head office this is where it goes drastically wrong !! Very difficult to speak to the same person due to their high turnover of staff !! I as the landlord needed to speak to a person who could understand that my tenant needed to have looked at this was virtually impossible I eventually I spoke to the letting manager who was so unhelpful ..that we found it was impossible to continue to use their services . The final straw was getting Scottfraser to return the keys !!! I was told that I could drive to collect them from the Summertown office for us a 2.5 hour drive each way .

We transferred to another agent …

We dealt primarily with Simon Liddicot, who went above and beyond in helping us sell (although all the members of his team that we encountered were excellent).
Selling a house can be really stressful, but Simon took care of all the details with humour and grace.
