BUYER BEWARE! NO REFUNDS EVEN IF THEY CAN'T PROVIDE SERVICE!

Booked a trip from Vancouver to Jasper. Jasper was closed because of the wildfires. Refuse to refund our deposit and want us to "rebook" to another destination like Banff. Been there. Like saying I can't get you to Rome so you'll have to go to Paris. Make sure you read all the negative review. When it's good it's good, but terrible are really terrible!

Terribly let down by Rocky Mountaineer…

Terribly let down by Rocky Mountaineer train manager dumping us in Jasper 2 mins away from mandatory evacuation!!! He should never have allowed ys to disembark at the height of a fire situation not knowing who and when we would be able to evacuate. Our luggage is stuck in hotels there and they are washing their hands off that too saying it will be the hotel responsibility when it is the Rocky Mountaineer who took luggage there knowing the imminent danger. Extremely disappointed!! This happened last Monday 22nd July. There were a few people with limited mobility who would have found it very hard to wait for a bus to get us out in the smoke filled town.

Save your money it’s a rip off

Save your money it’s a rip off
Just disembarked from three day journey Jasper to Quisnel, Whistler and ending at Vancouver. £5500 pounds for two
First day breakfast at 8.30 Lunch at 11.30 then nothing to eat till 7pm which we paid for in hotel (2 star) Also a very boring day very little to look at seriously
Day 2 Food timing much better( not sure if it was due to our complaints ) view over Fraiser canyon exceptional (but not for those seated on left hand side)
G
Very good hotel in Whistler
We had a departing time of 2.45pm
You paid for your breakfast or lunch in resort as it’s not included
On train third day for just over 3 hours and was given one light snack(3bitesize pieces of salmon with rice)
Staff seemed to have some internal problems and tried hard but and did their best
Do not waste your money and take it out of any bucket list you may have
Don’t trust just me read the other reviews

Lied to about mobility access during the sales process. Shocking attempt at a response and then ghosted. Train and scenery is nice but not great value and quite a poor company to deal with for customer service- particularly for the price. Would not recommend.

I am writing to you about a trip on the rocky mountaineer trip

I am writing to you about a trip I booked with you from 4/ 29 /24 to 5/ 1/24. I was VERY disappointed. The hotel we stayed at in Banff, The Ptarmigan Inn, was a 2-star hotel at best. The hotel is in desperate need of upgrades, paint, carpet, etc. The hotel we stayed at in Kamloops, the Kamloops Hotel, was even worse. I would give it a minus 2 stars! When I pay a premium price for a trip, I expect the accommodation to reflect that.
The seats on the Rocky Mountaineer were horrible. They were worn out and hard, all the seat cushion was worn out. Many people were complaining about it. A trip from Banff to Kamloops took 14 ½ hrs. due to the train having to wait on side spurs for other trains to go by. When we finally got to Kamloops all eateries were closed and we had no food!!

The next day going from Kamloops to Vancouver was a similar situation but this time it was 15 hours. I think this should be disclosed on your website that delays are common and could make the trip longer than expected so people might want to get a snack to take with them before boarding in case of delays or choose not to book this trip. I feel a reputable company would disclose this.

I would not recommend this trip to anyone. You overcharged for what was delivered and it seems to me you care very little for the comfort of your customers.

Fantastic experience

My wife and I travelled on the Rocky Mountaineer from Banff on 5 June 2024 arriving in Vancouver on 6 June 2024. We booked this trip nearly a year and a half previously and in that time read a number of mixed reviews, so when the time came for us to travel we were excited and a little apprehensive to. We traveled Silver Leaf. So - were there any negatives - No! Our carriage was staffed by Greg, Adrienne and Sherin. They were fantastic throughout, never stopped and looked after everyone in the carriage with complete professionalism. They were funny, engaging, informative and so friendly. The breakfasts and lunches were superb, drinks flowed from the ‘Jolly Trolley’ from start to finish. Our hotel in Kamaloops was the Hampton Inn - clean and a well needed bed for the night. Our arrival into Vancouver was slightly delayed, arriving at around 20:30 and mindful of that we were given a light meal so we arrived fed and watered. Drinks were good quality to and snacks a plenty. We had a fantastic mix of passengers in our carriage to. Would I recommend Rocky Mountaineer - on our experience 100%. Thank you for a fantastic trip, in breathtaking scenery and great company.

The views awesome, but....

The views were awesome and the food in the Silver level was great. The seats comfortable, and plenty of windows to see it all go by. The alcoholic beverages are definitely controlled to 3 serving times, and one drink each. I am assuming they want to make sure no one gets a buzz. The crew of three was great, until we kind of annoyed the older one, Pete, on the second day after mentioning we could smell pot in the back by the bathrooms. There was a train cart behind ours that said "Staff Only", which we looked into and it was a train cart like ours, except no passengers. Guess he was annoyed that it was noticeable or that someone in the train was smoking. Now the not so great... you will be sharing One track with the Canadian National trains and the Canada Pacific trailways, they own the tracks, and Rocky Mountaineer pays to use them. That means any of the other trains will have priority, and you will sit on the track waiting for the 200+ carts to go by first. We had that experience five times in our way from Vancouver to Kamploops where we arrived at 930 pm, from 8am when we boarded. If you do not feel like you can be on idle for several long periods of times, I would say drive. Board the train in Kamploops, it was not as long from there to Jasper, and we did have to defer to the Canada trains, but not as many times. Kamploops is a big train meeting spot with not much happening therefore probably a quick overnight like we did was about right. The hotel where we stay Thompson Hotel needs lots of help in updating. The other hotels in Vancouver, Jasper, and Banff were Awesome and would recommend. For the amount of money we paid for 2 of us, close to $8000 usa currency, I would see what else is out there for traveling in the area of Jasper and Banff. FYI we have not gotten a "rate your trip" email from Rocky Mountaineer. I found that odd, perhaps they are not interested in the reviews.

We travelled from Banff to Vancouver

We travelled from Banff to Vancouver, mid-May, with the Gold service. On morning one after breakfast I asked for a cup of tea with a biscuit or cookie. I was told snacks would be brought to our table later. Not happy with that I went back to the senior host and asked if I could have something with my tea and was told again snacks would be brought around later. Snacks did arrive, way after I had finished my tea, a choice of a small bowl of assorted nuts or assorted chocolate bits. At a thousand pound per person per day I didn’t think asking for a cookie was unreasonable.
On day two we were held in the yard for 1.5 hours, so the people on the first breakfast sitting had a view of the train yard. We then find that a whole row of seats had no recline or heat. This was important because the cabin temperature was suited more for the staff walking up and down than the passengers seated. We were then told long before we left the yard that the seats would not be working for the rest of the day. This meant sitting bolt upright for 14 hours, not really the luxury they told us.
We didn’t arrive in Vancouver until way after 9pm. We then found that some passengers who had ordered Rocky mountaineer gifts did not pay for them and they assumed it was compensation for the late arrival.
All in all a very expensive and disappointing experience that I would not recommend.

Train from hell

Do not believe it when there is a 2 hour stoppage and they tell you they are waiting for a freight train to pass. Why can't they continue and the freight train pass later? We found out later this was bulldust and they were waiting for a relief driver who was late which happens all the time apparently. It would not matter what tier you were on you are still stuck unnecessarily on a train standing still for 2 hours +. We did not get into Kamloops til 10pm and missed out on our paid dinners at our accomodation. We were only offered crappy soup on the train that night. Not good enough for the money you pay regardless of 'class'.

A trip to remember

Over the last couple of days we have travelled aboard the Rocky Mountaineer from Banff to Vancouver. We chose Gold Service because of the extra height of the carriage including the panoramic ceiling and we thought it was certainly worth the additional cost. The journey was taken over two days, stopping overnight in Kamloops.

The first thing to remember is it is a train journey, of around 12 hours per day, nothing can get you away from that.

We did the trip to enjoy the scenery and frequent wildlife sightings at a reasonably sedate pace.

The key thing for us was the high quality of the food and the great service, both of which are an essential part of the experience.

The food and drink were both excellent and plentiful. The level of service provided by the staff was what made a really good experience into an excellent experience. Perhaps we were lucky, but I think not, the whole team were excellent, friendly and at the same time very professional and always attentive. They really go the extra mile to make the trip memorable.

I am never going to use Rocky Mountaineer ever again

I am writing after waiting for 6 months for my insurance claim to be paid back. It is a pity i am reading the reviews now as had i read them i would have never spent so much money on this awful trip. Based on Rocky Mountaineer brochure and on their fast replies before i booked, i thought i was going to be in very good hands. These guys are a bunch of people who are happy to take your money but when there is a problem, they wash their hands.

I booked for 4 persons from 14 jul 23 to 18 Jul 23 in Gold leaf travelling from Jasper to Vancouver but my 2 adults children did not get a visa because the Canadian embassy had no time to process their visas ( and still being in the queue for processing since Mar 23- to tell you how bad Canada treats visitors). I therefore cancelled their bookings in June 23 and submitted a claim to Rocky Mountaineer insurers who at the time of booking asked me to take an insurance to cover such an issue at CAD 491.89 /person paid through them to Allianz.

I submitted my claim in June 23 to Allianz and till now it is still under queue for processing. I have contacted Rocky Mountaineer as they took my money and they paid allianz ( their insurance service provider) and though they promised to get the claim processed and would intervene, nothing has been done up to now. Since the last 2 months even my mails are not being replied to.

Now about the trip. Apart from the food, there is nothing special. In any case i paid CAD 5176/person and for this price i could have paid the food i wanted for the 2 days on the train and more than First class and have the same views.

The hotel we were put in on the 2nd day at Kamloops did not even have a restaurant. So we had to walk outside the hotel in the evening to find food. If it rained we would have been ended with no food and luckily we did not meet any bad person on the walk to find the restaurant.

I am never going to use Rocky Mountaineer again.
Use your money wisely and not throw it away as i did because of having trusted the wrong parties.

Very unreasonable refund options and disinterested staff

What ever you do dont with RockyMountaineer unless you get a written guarantee of a refund if trip cancelled
We scheduled Rocky Mountaineer for a trip from Vancouver to Calgary in 2020 but this was canceled due to COVID. All other service providers such as hotels airlines, booked tours etc refunded our money but Rocky refused and only provided a credit option.
We re-booked in August 2023 but fires once again meant trip cancelled. We went to Rocky head office in Vancouver to request a refund as we travelled from Australia. Staff uninterested in our situation and only offered a credit which mus be used by August 2024.

Banff for 8/25/23 to 8/26 Gold Leaf. We were already up in Canada and on 8/23 I got email saying out trip was cancelled due to fires. I told the uninterested Rocky employees who simply said we DONT refund even after i explained it would cost us $10,000 to $12,000 to return to Vancouver. I wrote a letter to Canadans Tourism Minister but no reply. Our travel Agent has written to Rocky but no reply.

Additionally Vancouver is a ghetto and not at all pleasant especially with the so called high level of "zombie drug" usage.

Just refund our money!!

The staff were the icing on the cake

Our family of 6 adults did the Vancouver to Banff journey in the 9th/10th of October. This was part of a 'bucket list' holiday for our elderly parents.
We'd done our research but were still amazed when we got on board.
Dad uses a wheelchair and they have lifts both to bring him on board and an internal one to get him up to our upstairs area.
The seats were excellent, with optional heating and reclining.
We sat next to an emergency window which has a very slightly obstructed view but you don't have to stay in your seat.
Outside viewing platform was a fabulous bonus.
Everything was spotless.
The food was top notch and doing the service in two 'shifts' meant that we all got excellent service and good hot food.
Drinks of all kinds were included all the time. The staff offered them regularly but you could also ask for them whenever you liked.
Our mum had her 80th birthday on board and the staff really went out of their way to make the experience wonderful for her and all the passengers.
Our cabin staff were Barry, Matt, Alena and Bex and they are a credit to the company. They were what made the trip it's very best and if I ever did this again any staff would find it very difficult to better this experience.

HORRIBLE ROOMS HORRIFIC RIDE NO FOOD!

$9,000 plus airfare lost and travel insurance not covering either. Rocky Mountaineer - a supposed LUXURY TRAVEL Provider is a farce. It started with a day of notifications and phone calls AFTER we had already arrived in Vancouver Canada telling us that our train was canceled but that the Jasper train had seats. LIES. Hours later suddenly there were no seats on the Jasper train. Forcing us to hail a cab and forfeit our tour of Vancouver and trek to the Rocky Mountaineer office our travel agent told us that only the RM staff knew what was going on and to get to their office. RM at Pan Pacific Hotel office staff told us that now we instead be on luxury motor coach and to be in the lobby at 6:50 am. They also promised that we would get a free Luxury Train Trip for the next year. We arrived first and were told that we would have the second row. LIES. We waited with nowhere to sit in a draft for 3 hours waiting for a very late BUS. They forced us in the last row right next to the toilet with non-reclining seats while their staff sat comfortably in the second row. We became the bathroom monitors for twelve hours !!! We were promised 6 stops on a long trip to Banff with $125 for meals. We had two 15 minute stops one of which my friend was trapped in the bus restroom with a stubborn latch, and NO MONEY was given to us for meals to this very day. All they gave us was stale crackers, a three inch fruit roll and the hardest cookie I've ever seen. I spit them all out and ate my trail mix that I brought, and I ran to McDonalds at the stop but was choking in the smoke in my mask. The trip was supposedly for our safety but was very dangerous with wildfire smoke choking us for hours. The whole bus wore masks for at least 3 hours and some almost the whole way. I've never felt more unsafe traveling since backpacking with a broken arm in the High Sierra! Rocky Mountaineer should have just forked over the money and flown us to Calgary. In the meantime we took detours on windy thin roads up and around barns and farms, skidding in dirt, riding over sidewalks and coughing through smoke. At 11 pm room keys were given to us for the $750 room at Banff Springs Fairmont in the most God awful small room I've ever been in. I'm small and yet I still hit the wall every time that I got out of bed. The elevator didn't work and the room key didn't let us in the building after breakfast. The whole place was filled with confusing stairways and long hallways one after the other and it was like the Winchester House in San Jose California which was designed to confuse the ghosts of those killed by Winchester rifles! The next day RM moved us again and we received a room late in the day which was too late to go hiking anywhere. The next day was my birthday and I spent $300 to get the heck away from Rocky Mountaineer's horrible tour services and I bought my own lake tour. Then on the last day in Banff they bussed us to a train station to wait for another bus with an incoherent bus driver who took us to Calgary's airport. Then finally it took us to the expensive Fairmont Palliser where we were given another lousy small room next to the elevator shaft that kept us awake until 1 am and my luggage would only fit on the bathroom floor. I bet my bottom dollar that they didn't do all of these things to the men!! I e-mailed five of the Rocky Mountaineers top management team in August and not a single one has replied. My travel agent sent a credit NOT FOR A FUTURE FULL TRAIN TRIP but for ONE THIRD OF WHAT WE SPENT on our trip. More LIES!!! American Express Assurance Travel will not reimburse any trips that have received future travel credits so we are totally screwed because I'm never using Rocky Mountaineer or visiting Canada again. So TAKE THIS TO HEART CANADIAN DEPARTMENT OF TOURISM : nobody that sat near us ever wants to see Canada again because of how the Rocky Mountaineer deceived us. They have no accountability and are no better than con artists.

Don't book with RockyMountaineer

We scheduled Rocky Mountaineer for a trip from Vancouver to Banff for 8/25/23 to 8/26 Gold Leaf. We were already up in Canada and on 8/23 I got email saying out trip was cancelled due to fires. That was understandable but Rocky Mountaineer was very uncustomer focused and offered us no alternatives but to cancel the rest of our 2 week trip as we couldn't get to Banff. When I called them there was no response but we offer no refunds and you can reschedule for 24 or 25. We are out $$5200US for this trip. I wrote a letter to Rocky Mountaineer customer service late August with really no response from them. We have nothing at this time but out $5200US. I would really think twice before booking a train trip with this company. Overall they have good reviews but we have had a very poor customer experience as well as being out a bunch of money.

We traveled from Vancouver to Banff…

We traveled from Vancouver to Banff 2nd-3rd October 2023. What a disappointment. We did ask to move but the train was full to capacity, and were told to take it up with guest services. We were in a chilly carriage with assigned seats with severely obstructed views due to the very wide window pillars. We sat there for 2 days, missing all the beautiful scenery. The second day was 14 1/2 hours and we missed the last 2hrs of daylight. For such an expensive experience there should be no seats that have obscured views. We have also noted that we were not covered by ATOL. Buyer beware.

We took the Gold Service and were seated in a carrage with a glass roof from which we could observe all the breathtaking scenary. The carrage appeared new or at least refurbished it was comfortabnle and airy although at times the air con can make it a bit cold- pack a pullover.. Most importantly the windows were clean and polished. The food was good, if not exceptional and having to take meals in two shifts was a little tiresome. Our carrage had two 'hosts' to wait on about 40 people. It may have been enough had one not been frequently engaged on other duties. Sometimes it seemed like an age between drinks which was a bit disappointing. The atmosphere of the trip is very much relient on the presentation and communication of the two hosts- one had a bit of an 'edge' which was a shame and also went on about how she had only to get through 4 more trips until the end of the season- poor thing. Anyway to the positives On this trip you get to see spectacular parts of Canada you would not see from the road and you do so in some luxuary. I shall certainly treasure those memories- the scenary was the star! Should mention that the hotel we were put up in after the first day was excellent. A great pity we had so little time to spend there.
The trip is hugely expensive but so is everything in Canada at the moment especially food including eating out. I do not recognise the 'rip off' stories I have seen in other reviews. Speaking as a not particularly wealthy person I think sometimes you have to save up, forget the cost and try to enjoy it. I recommend it

Amazing scenery and attentive service…

Amazing scenery and attentive service but management team and customer care absolutely appalling!!! Despite my protests that the hotel information they had for me was incorrect was dropped off at wrong hotel (even though another coach was going to my hotel) and had to arrange taxi to correct hotel not arriving until 10pm!! When I raised this with customer care afterwards they were totally disinterested. This was an extremely expensive 2 day trip advertised as a trip if a lifetime which it was but marred by appalling customer service, shame on you Ricky Mountaineer team. Thank goodness the Fairmont hotel took ownership despite a much smaller profit and offered outstanding service by getting me to their sister hotel.

Amazing Experience

We have just returned from a 2 day trip on the Rocky Mountaineer between Jasper and Vancouver. It was amazing! The scenery was spectacular. We were treated to excellent quality breakfasts and lunches within the Gold Leaf service, with plenty of drinks throughout trip. The seats for viewing were so comfortable...even had a seat warmer! The staff work very hard to make sure we have a great time...thankyou Oz and Marco. A must do experience.

Banff to Vancouver trip for $5000 CAD…

Banff to Vancouver trip for $5000 CAD silver leaf. Pros - two hours of nice scenery on the first ELEVEN hour day on the train. Very boring, no wifi, no on board entertainment, mostly treed areas beside tracks. Second day again way too long. Lots of snails pace travel and just sitting on the tracks. I’m very sorry to have wasted $5000 on this very overpriced trip. The hosts were great in our train car but that’s it.
