Buyer beware...

Although this is labelled as an R36S device. It appears to be a cheap clone and will not support upgrading to latest ArkOS. At least my unit doesn't...

Look online and you'll see this is usually an indication that it's a clone device. The SD card structure on the card provided also doesn't resemble anything like a proper R36S with ArkOS installed.

The games run fine although saves don't work and the savestate system is flakey at best. The included micro SD card is also probably the lowest quality card I've ever seen and appears to be almost made of soap. I ejected it to look at it and already the casing seems to be falling apart.

From looking at other reviews and reports online. This seems quite common practice for these pop up shops to sell the cheaper knock-off versions of the popular handheld. I guess don't always be fooled by Facebook ads....

Update - The device is also advertised as having WiFi and Bluetooth. Even to the point where this company responded to Facebook comments about multiplayer and suggested WiFi. Yet (on my device at least), yes there’s a WiFi option. But there appears to be no internal hardware to support it. Bluetooth also fails to locate any device regardless of what I try to connect to it

Unfortunately my unit that I purchased from Retrosoft was a locked down Emuelec built into the device which can’t be updated or anything. Tried to contact them for a refund, however I needed to send the unit back to China. Not ideal. If you want the proper R36S experience, you best be buying from elsewhere and not from Retrosoft. All is not lost as I’ll donate this locked down R36S to my boy. Also not to mention that trying to contact them via their Facebook page they just simply remove and block you from the thread. Should have done more research and purchase a proper R36S unit from known stores which doesn’t sell locked down Emuelec ones like Retrosoft.

Sent 2 faulty products. Sent an email with information about the issues and received a automated response. When making a fuss on social media the wally "tech experts" have blocked me and now do not respond to any of my emails. Claim to be based in Essex but all returns for a "easy full refund" is at a huge cost to myself sending to China. I paid on credit card so will go via the charge back route and I hope this puts others off from buying from these scam artists. If anyone has details on the company trading name and company number on companies house then please share this as a report to trading standards Is next on the agenda

Concept of the device is amazing, being an open source console with thousands of games to play. Delivery was fine and arrived before Christmas for my son. The console suddenly stopped working after 5 days. The screen just turns off after the initial boot “LOADING …” screen. I have sent an email but I haven’t had a reply. Please can someone look into this. 5 days just isn’t good enough for the price. I have tried to phone the number stated on the website numerous times but the “person you are trying to reach in unavailable”. I want a refund or a working replacement.

Was purchased a Retro Console as a Christmas Gift that didn't work. Contacted their customer support to be asked for numbers pictures and videos (stalling tactics), to then be told they needed to send a replacement SD card. Chased them after 10 days and was told the SD card had to be resent and had no evidence the original one had been sent, I don't believe it was.

Items and SD cards sent from China, claim to be based in the UK but I'm not so sure I believe them.

UPDATE 20/01/2025

I did not accept the £10 refund, that was made after requesting a different refund method.

I am still without a working MicroSD card as it looks like you have sent it to the original address, despite agreeing to send it to my address.

Almost a month now since the first correspondence and it still hasn't been resolved.

Looking at the latest post on Facebook of this company there are a lot of customers in the same situation - avoid!

UPDATE 22/01/25

After days of no replies I noticed that Retrosoft have deleted their recent posts that had many more customers complaining. After asking why this was the case I've now been blocked by them.

The quality of the console doesn't meet the expectations of the promotional material.
Awful emulation of the Dreamcast and N64, terrible buttons, literally awful clicky rubbish.
Their site specifies their address as in the UK but the console ships from China. With regards to the no quibble money back guarantee, they have accepted it but I have to send at my expense to CHINA! Typical scam Facebook company. Not only that but the website has only existed since September 2024 and is only registered for 1 year. Typical cut and run scammers.

I ordered two of these consoles for christmas, to be fair, i ordered them quite near to christmas (20th) and wasn’t expecting them to arrive before xmas, but they did arrive in the 27th December, which was very reasonable. The kids love them.

After 1 day, one of the consoles’s screen started to dim very low every time we selected a game. We then have to go to the settings and select brightness to increase again, it is ok while we look at the list of games, but once we choose a game it goes straight back to 0% brightness again, we can hardly see the game we are playing, its really frustrating. I have emailed 4 days ago but not heard back yet, and im giving them time to respond.

The only thing is, I can see that they are active on facebook answering people’s questions and encouraging them to buy the product, but not answering emails. I will give them the benefit of the doubt and update this review if they respond and are helpful.

Ordered 2 consoles for my children on 11th Dec. No update or items still and emailed twice with no reply. £150 missing with no products. Avoid and save your money

I ordered 2 of these a couple weeks ago and I was sceptical to be fair, the website promised 5 day delivery and I was unsure looking at reviews if this was legit.

I waited around a week and a half and saw that the devilery was 'in transit' and I thought I'd give it a bit more time, after about another week I emailed asking if this was going arrive before Christmas and I was starting to question if I'd been scammed.

The next day I received a really genuine email apologising and saying that they had been busier than expected and that they would do all they could to get the products to arrive within the week, within another day or two max the Gameboy replicas arrived as promised.

I haven't had a chance to fully test it out but did turn one on and it looks great 👍, screen is clear and appears good quality and feels really nice in the hand. I scrolled through the different consoles you can play and a few games and all worked. Was just as advertised.

As is said I was sceptical about buying this but I'm really glad I did, even if the kids don't get a load of fun out of it, which I'm sure they will, then I will myself. The email I got from the company was really genuine and was written with class and I would recommend this company product.

Really nice to see a company respond the way they did and really happy with the products that have arrived, overall really impressed 👍

Game itself when working was fantastic but after 3 weeks the selection screen stopped working. Contacted seller through website feedback but no response. Feel like I've wasted my money and still no response 4 weeks later

It's been 9 days and I'm still waiting for the parcel to arrive. Not sure if I will ever receive it or if I've been scammed but either way the 3-5 day delivery time is inaccurate on their website. No response from emailing the seller either.

This is an absolutely incredible little machine. I Bought one originally for myself and then ended up getting two more for my nephews for Christmas! I’ve been playing, Pokémon fire red and Gran Turismo and can barely put it down! Can’t wait for my nephews to be on it boxing day and my brother-in-law, I have a feeling my sister is going to hate me for it 😂 I couldn’t rate it highly enough. The screen is crystal clear and I’ve no problem playing any of the games on there. I haven’t even started on Mario yet! Amazing!
