I have dealt with postal suppliers of model railways since the 1960s including Hattons of Liverpool. Rails of Sheffield have taken up their mantle and offer a service just as good but updated to take advantage of new technologies.
Recently I needed to 'cull' an oversize locomotive collection and used Rails excellent facilities. On the same day I listed my engines a good offer was made and accepted. Collection by Parcelforce was arranged two days later and the parcel delivered within 24 hours, all at no cost to myself. Funds soon followed by bank transfer.
I have recommended Rails in the past and will continue to do so. Their service, range and knowledge is second to none.

Like many of us 'boomers' I had a small railway setup as a child and then forgot about it...enter Bachmann in the 1990's and I went a bit wild and amassed a lot of items. I was able to buy locos and rolling stock at will and loved every moment of it. Sadly my dreams always exceeded my capabilities, my wife never really shared the dream and I have sadly had to part with it all.
Rails of Sheffield provided my exit strategy, 9 pages of items !! but very quickly made an offer which was very reasonable, paid for postage and insurance, and at no time put any pressure on me. All items were mailed and within 48 hours the offer was confirmed, money in bank 24 hours later. There is no part of the service that could be faulted, communication is excellent and prices fair, I give 5 stars, but it deserves 6!!

Have just received a reply from RoS apologising for the delivery problems and giving a refund of the Parcelforce delivery charge. However, still no idea where the package is at this point in time. Upgraded from 1 to 2 stars.

Sellers of express trains, but no express delivery.

Ordered a loco well before their 1pm cut off for next day delivery and ordered their Parcelforce 24 service, guaranteed next day delivery. At the end of the day the item should have been received Parcelforce still didn't have the package from Rails (I called PF and checked their online tracking - no tracking events recorded). Followed up with an email to RoS that evening, as of 11am this morning (now Friday after placing the order on Wednesday). There's still no reply to my email asking what was happening with my order. So I'm none the wiser as to whether this has even been posted. If you do order from them just get whatever the cheapest service is, they're mis-selling their express services and will just stick your order in the post when they feel like, it would seem.

I would award Rails with six stars if that were possible. I have previously bought from Rails with confidence on a number of occasions and have just sold a couple of items to them for the first time. Excellent price and service. I cannot fault them.

Wanted to sell some of my OO guage railway. Had a quick reply to my initial email and after agreeing the price payment was made the sameday.

I had excellent service from Rails of Sheffield as regards items I sold to them. Having sent them a list of the items, they responded quickly and offered me a good price. They offered to uplift the items from me free of charge by means of Parcel Force. They tested the items immediately they received them, and they paid me by bank transfer on the next banking day.

Don't bother trying to email these guys with a question - they just don't reply, even when prompted to by telephone. It's a pity since they're now so large. I've gone elsewhere

Good communication along the process and efficient, fair sale of goods

First time dealing with Rails of Sheffield, where I opted to ‘trade in’ model railway items which I had stored for many years.
After contacting the company, they replied promptly, setting out the process I could go through to obtain an offer for the kit I wished to sell.
The process was straightforward and a provisional valuation placed on the items. I felt the offer was fair and Rails arranged for them to be uplifted by Parcelforce, all I had to do was securely pack it, my package was uplifted as arranged, even down to the labelling.
Rails confirmed receipt, and then arranged the monetary transfer to my account.
A pretty smooth and satisfactory experience.

I had a number of diesel locos for sale and sent a list to Rails and they quickly replied with an offer. Not quite as much as I would have liked but I had enjoyed the models for a number of years and had tried to sell them individually with not much success, so I agreed the price. They arranged Parcel Force to collect them, all I had to do was pack them securely. Once Rails received they promptly transferred money to my bank. Would definitely recommend Chris Fitch

Customer support is excellent and easy to get hold of.

I sold my N gauge track and rolling stock to Rails, the whole experience was great, and very quick from sending my photographs to getting paid took about five days much quicker than I expected. The people I dealt with were very helpful and I would recommend them to everyone.

when dealing with the sale of various locos I was very pleased with the quotations which i accepted and the money paid the next day. The people were very friendly and helpful. Will definitely with the sale of more railwayana along possible purchases.

My first visit today and what a day to pick! A two-hour drive over some flooded roads and a power cut at the shop upon my arrival.
But the team were great in difficult circumstances and were really helpful once I could get in 😂

I had some surplus model railway locos and control equipment that I no longer required and having seen Rails own advertising for used models I thought I would give them a try. I found the whole process of making a sales list very easy and then all you have to do is indicate the model condition. After agreeing a
provisional price you them, arrange a pick up date and it is collected free of charge by Parcel Force. Once it had been picked up I had received the agreed amount in my bank account the
next day. I felt the price was fair and the
whole process was well handled by Ben
and Jake. Definitely recommend as an
easy process

Easy to sell online. Was able to negotiate a price, Parcelforce collected my locomotives and rolling stock on the agreed date and the money was on its way to my account the following day. Ben and Jake were both efficient and helpful.

Twice in the last year I have sold consignments of OO guage locos, rolling stock, control equipment and accessories to Rails , who have offered realistic prices based solely on my detailed schedules , and arranged collection by Parcelforce, subsequently making the agreed payment by bank transfer. Whilst it’s possible that a higher value might have been achieved through multiple private sales over an extended period, selling to Rails eliminated all the associated “ wheel kicking” of multiple buyers and for me, saved far more in time and aggro! Their extremely efficient and prompt handling of emails and issue of offer made the process seamless . I hope what I sold will move on to new owners in very short time

Several interactions with Rails over the last fortnight. The purchase of a new, and a second hand locomotive plus a new coach went well using part of my proceeds from some sales of die cast aircraft & one failed Hornby loco. Prices are excellent as is the service and speed of turnaround. They also speedily sorted out a guarantee problem with a Hornby class 47. Great service Team Rails.

Just sold some unwanted model rail and die cast cast models to Rails of Sheffield and was very pleasantly surprised by the service. Having emailed the team with my list of items, I was emailed back that day with a very reasonable offer which I was happy to accept. I then packaged everything up which was collected by Parcel Force within a week. This arrived the next day and by 5pm the money was in my account. Fantastic service and very friendly team to deal with. Would highly recommend.
