Amazing Book, Amazing Service
The purchase went smoothly with the invoice and the book I bought was promptly delivered as soon as the payment was received. The book arrived in excellent condition across the ocean and the gift wrapping was impeccable. The condition of the book itself was incredible and almost as good as new (despite it being over 100 years old). It was a one year anniversary gift for my fiancé who is an accountant and the book I bought turned out to be an invaluable treasure. I would totally make another purchase from Peter Harrington!

Unreliable
I Purchased today a copy of a book listed on Peter Harrington's website: Homer item 179686 for 1,250 British pounds.
I made the purchase, and paid for it immediately. I received a receipt for it immediately. After having made such purchase, I looked at the website to confirm my purchase, and sure enough, the “availability” of the item had immediately updated to ‘no longer available for purchase.”
Then I get this typo-ridden message:

Thank you for your interest in Peter Harrington. I am afraid, the Homer sold to a customer an hour before you placed your order through our website. The database haven’t been updated on time to show the book as sol.. Please do accept my apologies on behalf of the company. I have cancelled the payment and your card won’t be charged. I can add you to our wants list and in case the same book comes up for sale you will be the first one to buy.

I want to bring this to every bibliophile's attention so that you’ll be aware, and become more judicious
about making a purchase from Peter Harrington and their technological shortcomings.

Our sincere apologies for any disappointment caused. We sell books through numerous platforms, not just our website but on several bookselling marketplaces, and of course in-store at our shops and on the telephone.
When a book is purchased directly on our website, it is made unavailable for purchase for any other customers instantaneously. But if the book is sold in-store at one of our shops, on the phone, or through bookselling platforms, unfortunately there is a small lag between the sale being logged and the record in question being marked as unavailable for purchase on our website.
Our bookselling database, which is widely used in the rare book trade, does not yet allow direct connectivity and instant communications between itself and the business’s website. A forthcoming upgrade will eventually allow this, but in the meantime, we send numerous data updates throughout the day to our website to reflect the latest sales. Unfortunately you saw and ordered the book in question during the small time window between it previously being sold to someone else, and the sale being communicated to our website, for which we can only apologise.
However, I would like to point out that we state on all our order confirmation notifications that we will be in touch shortly to confirm the order, precisely for such eventualities. Please also note that such occurrences are extremely uncommon, and by no means exclusive to us. They do occasionally happen to businesses across the entire industry, or indeed most other retail sectors, as most book collectors will already be aware of.
The transaction was voided immediately and no money has charged to your account. If there is anything else we can do for you, please do not hesitate to email or phone us.

My package was sent to the wrong address. I guess the shipping address got confused with the billing address, so a gift I had ordered for someone else came to me instead.

I was lucky enough to come across the book I had been searching for some time and also to purchase it from a very professional bookseller. The book arrived in just five days after placing the order, all the way from London to Tokyo, perfectly packaged and in excellent condition.
