Patternbricks apartment in Goldsmith Place, Coventry…
This is a review of the Patternbricks apartment in Goldsmith Place, Coventry.
We had reserved a different apartment on Booking.com but two days before our arrival the owner wrote to us saying that the flat had been damaged by the tenant that had left that day. They offered us an alternative (the apartment of this review) and as the photos of the apartment looked OK and we had few options (as we were already on holiday in the UK after travelling from Spain), we accepted the change. This apartment was smaller than we had reserved and only had one bathroom, not two as for the original booking.
We arrived quite late in the evening, and were disappointed to see the state of the flat. It was very run down and looked nothing like the photos.
The hob and oven were filthy (full of grease) and we bought new pans to use as the ones of the flat were disgusting. There were remains of food around the cupboards on the floor and on the walls.
There were few utensils for cleaning. There was a broom and when we tried sweeping the floor, we removed a lot of black hair (which was not ours!).
There was a twin bedroom which was quite spacious, but the double bed was in a tiny room with access to just one side of the bed. This had the most uncomfortable mattress I have ever laid on (impossible to sleep on).
When we commented to the owners if we were entitled to compensation (the apartment we booked and paid for was 50% larger and had two bathrooms and a dishwasher), the answer was we could had left earlier. Obviously this was not an easy option to find alternatives at this late date. They also offered 20% of our next stay! There's is no way in the world would I ever return to an apartment from these people.
One last point. There is a review in Booking.com of the original flat we had booked explaining they had a similar situation of having to move because the flat had been damaged. This review was from a stay earlier the same month. Was this the same damage? The owners advised us two days before our arrival that the damage was from the tenant who had left that day. I think the owners could have advised us much earlier (according to the date of the review), or maybe it's simply a scam to put people in cheaper apartments!
